John Singleton's action drama Four Brothers has beat out supernatural thriller The Skeleton Key to top the US box office.
Last week's number one, a big screen version of The Dukes of Hazzard, dropped to third.
In all, four new releases made it to the top ten, which had an overall gross 16% down on the same weekend last year.
"It was a fairly unremarkable weekend at the box office," Paul Dergarabedian of Exhibitor Relations told the AP. "August usually is a slowdown month."
The US top ten in full:
1. (-) Four Brothers ($20.7 million)
2. (-) The Skeleton Key ($15.8 million)
3. (1) The Dukes of Hazzard ($13 million)
4. (2) Wedding Crashers ($12 million)
5. (-) Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo ($9.4 million)
6. (3) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ($7.3 million)
