Emmerdale is set to make history with an episode exclusively featuring its male cast members.

In scenes airing next month, Marlon Dingle will host a lock-in for male residents of the village at the Woolpack so they can speak frankly with each other about mental health.

Marlon will encourage the other men to get talking, as a response to learning his dear friend Paddy Dingle has been contemplating suicide.

Viewers know that Paddy has fled the village following his split from Chas, but his upcoming return will initially be to say goodbye to his loved ones.

Marlon is determined to help his friend in any way he can, so he convenes the men of the village to talk about what they can do for Paddy as well as discuss their own mental health concerns.

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw and her team have been working closely with Samaritans and Andy's Man Club to sensitively present the topic of male mental health.

"When we embarked on this heartbreaking storyline about Paddy's depression and attempted suicide we knew we wanted to shine a light on how important it is to just talk," Shaw has said.

"Inspired by listening to real stories from the charity Andy's Man Club, we decided to have some of the men in our village come together for a very special episode which purely focuses on them and [sees] them talking about whatever they are feeling or thinking.

"If watching some of our most loved characters opening up to each other encourages just one person to reach out and start talking, we will be extremely thankful."

This will be the first time in Emmerdale's history that it has featured only male characters in an episode. In 2019, the soap aired an all-female episode in celebration of International Women's Day.

Mark Charnock (aka Marlon) has said of this special instalment: "Despite Paddy being home and safe back in the heart of the village, Marlon is finding it hard to get through to him and is worried Paddy will never find the courage to open up and talk.

"When Chas and Jimmy both unwittingly give Marlon this idea, it's not long before Marlon is acting on their information and setting up this lock-in. He just hopes it will help."

Advocacy group Andy's Man Club encourages men to speak openly about their mental health, either with loved ones or on social media using the hashtag #ItsOkayToTalk.

This special all-male episode of Emmerdale will air on Friday, March 10.

MONDAY

It's a moment that may not have happened had Paddy's suicide bid gone the way he had hoped.

But the vet is still standing and his loved ones are thrilled to have him home.

But his dad Bear, best mate Marlon and ex-wife Chas are painfully aware that Paddy's recovery is going to take time.

With his loved ones on a knife's edge worrying about him like mad, Paddy has soothing news: he's arranged to talk to a therapist.

Hallelujah.

Matty's relieved when Amy explains that her marriage proposal has nothing to do Kyle's custody.

As the little lad's parents, Amy and Cain, battle it out over their son, Cain enlists his brother Caleb's help but he just makes matters worse.

But Cain and Amy are forced to bond together and work as a team when a situation flares up with Nicola.

They're horrified when they learn Kyle has turned on Jimmy's son Carl and that Nicola is threatening to report him to the police!

If that happens so soon after the Al Chapman disaster, Kyle will more than likely get taken away from his family.

As Cain pleads with Nicola not to report his son, it's Amy's pleas that hit home for Nicola, who's a mum herself.

Later, Cain digests what happened and sends his wife Moira into a tailspin when he declares Kyle is better off without him.

Elsewhere, Charles is on a mission to stop Naomi from entering into a relationship with Alex, Dawn's dodgy druggy ex, while Rishi is convinced there's in intruder at Holdgate.

TUESDAY

So Cain Dingle has decided that Amy, his son Kyle's biological mum, can have full custody. And not only that. But Kyle will never see him again.

It's a huge turnaround for the devoted dad who's been torn up over his recent estrangement from the little lad due to the bail restrictions the judge laid down.

Cain was furious when he heard that Amy wanted full custody, changing the current co-parenting arrangement that was working fine until the Al Chapman shooting.

But Kyle's recent behaviour has got Cain thinking and he's become convinced that he's responsible for his son's recent troubled behaviour and thinks the lad would be better off without him.

Moira is aghast as her husband fleshes out his reasoning behind his decision, explaining that he wants Amy to move away with Kyle to give the little boy a chance to start anew.

Having helped raise Kyle, Moira loves him like one of her own and is distraught at the idea. She also knows that not seeing Kyle will break her husband.

Can the farmer get Cain to change his mind?

At Holdgate, Rishi's been hearing noises and is convinced someone or something is living there with him.

But when his son Jai has a good root around the house and finds nothing, he fears his dad is masking his loneliness in the wake of Priya's exit.

Who's sneaking around the Sharma dad's house dropping crisp crumbs as they go? Is Rishi really imagining things?

At the Woolie, Marlon tries to hide his concern over Paddy's counselling cancellation.

The chef is relieved when he overhears Paddy ? who recently attempted suicide ? trying to book another appointment. But when Paddy informs him there's going to be a two-week wait, Marlon is deeply worried about his best friend.

WEDNESDAY

When Laurel Thomas finds out what's been going on with Marshall, she's quick to pick up the phone and call his dad Colin.

Laurel's worried about what's going to happen when Colin strides into the Hide ? and so is Marshall.

But both are left stunned when Colin takes his teenage son in his arms and hugs him tightly.

Colin tells his son he can return to Hotten Academy and that the plan to send him to boarding school is off.

Laurel's thrilled to have reunited the pair but when Arthur hears about it, his reaction has the mum worried.

After Arthur explains that the situation between Marshall and his homophobic dad is really bad, Laurel fears she may have made a terrible mistake.

Should she have kept Marshall away from Colin?

Over at the Woolpack, Marlon's treading around on eggshells, worried out his mind about his best mate Paddy who recently attempted suicide.

Knowing that Paddy can't meet with a therapist for a couple of weeks, Marlon is desperate to try to find things to keep Paddy engaged.

He's terrified that Paddy is going to sink into another dark hole and have another attempt at taking his own life.

But Paddy's asked for breathing space and is irritated when Marlon rocks up with a bag of zombie stuff hoping to mess about with it like they used to.

THURSDAY

A big night out in Hotten sees a bunch of villagers go out to a club.

Among them is Leyla, who's on edge as she's struggling with her sobriety and is scared she's going to succumb to drugs. Suzy's thrilled when Leyla decides to give it a go.

But when Leyla spots her dealer, Callum, in the crowd clearly doing business she's triggered.

With the crim having stabbed her son and sent her to hell and back when she was in the grip of her cocaine addiction, she wants nothing more than to see Callum's life ruined.

Taking action, she secretly films him peddling his illegal wares?

When the police turn up and arrest him, Leyla reveals in the moment, taunting him much to Suzy's horror.

Will she live to regret her bravado?

Victoria is playing wingman to Ethan but soon realises the guy they're working on is in to her, not her gay mate.

Taking a chance, Vic lets her guard down and flirts a bit only to find herself having a panic attack when keen Sean suggests they get a cab back to her place.

It's too close to home for Victoria who was raped by Lee Posner after meeting him at a club and going home with him in a cab in 2019.

Ethan meanwhile bristles to see his sister Naomi having fun with Alex (aka Dawn's dodgy ex). Amy makes a snap decision to seize the day?

Vinny is having a ball and is letting his hair down for the first time since Liv died.

Belle is thrilled to see him out having a laugh. The pair is in hysterics as they muck about on the dance-floor together busting crazy dance moves.

Back in the village, Marlon can't stop worrying about Paddy and is terrified he'll sink and become suicidal again.

As he talks to his friends, Chas points out that women confide their feelings in their friends which makes the hard times easier while Jimmy admits that the community of the pub is his form of therapy.

FRIDAY

Marlon Dingle is absolutely determined to find a way to get Paddy feeling comfortable enough to open up.

With the village vet having recently attempted suicide, Paddy is in a painful place and his best mate is desperate to help him.

Knowing that talking really does help, Marlon decides he's going to take action to get a group of guys together hoping it will coax Paddy into confiding in his friends.

In a first for the soap, a male-only episode will see Cain, Marlon, Jimmy, Bob, Nate, Rishi, Liam, Sam and Charles gather in the Woolie for a special lock-in.

As the men get talking, all sorts of confessions, secrets and stories are shared.

Cain starts up a game of darts as the chat continues late into the night.

Will Marlon's plan pay off? Will Paddy join them and bare his soul and share the pain he's feeling?

Things turn nasty during a clash between Kyle and Carl.

Both Amy and Cain plead with Nicola not to call the police about Kyle. But it's Amy's appeal that causes Nicola to relent, which leaves Cain guilty to know the community sees Kyle's violence as a reflection of his parenting.

Meanwhile, when Naomi offers to cook a family lunch, Charles suspects she's up to something and soon both Alex and Charles realise it's an ambush. Charles needles Alex over lunch.

Elsewhere, the constant worry over Paddy is taking its toll on Chas, Marlon and Bear, who are all aware it's a long road for Paddy's recovery. They are bolstered when Paddy arrives home and reveals that he has arranged to see a therapist.

In a special male-only episode, the front doors of The Woolpack are locked and the men of the village stay behind for a late night lock-in, hoping to use the excuse as a forum to talk.

Cain, Jimmy, Liam, Bob, Charles, Sam, Nate, Marlon and Bear start their evening with the hope Paddy will join them.

As the men begin to talk, starting with their childhood nicknames and life moments that have troubled them or need to get off their chests, they begin to play a friendly game of darts.

Will Paddy have the courage to join them and seek the support he needs?
