EastEnders is set to introduce newcomer Jed, who will play a vital role in Sonia Fowler?s story.
In scenes that air next week on the long-running soap, Bradley Jaden joins the cast as Jed, a lodger who moves in with Sonia as she tries to resolve some of her financial issues.
Dot?s great-nephew Reiss suggests the idea of finding a lodger, which Kathy later tells Sonia might have been because he wanted to live with her himself.
It looks like Reiss might stand a chance when Sonia interviews several people, but can't quite find what she's looking for in the candidate.
In the end she opts for Jed, but it isn't long until her faith in the lodger is shaken. Reiss begins to hope that Sonia will evict him, but before she can, Jed convinces her otherwise.
As a result, Reiss continues to be jealous of Jed spending so much time and living with Sonia, as he starts to fight for her attention.
It comes after the shocking discovery that Sonia owes a significant amount of inheritance tax on Dot Branning's house.
She wonders if she will have to sell the house to pay off the debt, but with Reiss' ongoing support they figure out a way to keep the house she cherishes.
Reiss actor Jonny Freeman teased the possibility of a romance between his character and Sonia, when he first arrived on the soap for Dot's funeral.
He told Digital Spy: "He's introduced to the Square, there's a spark with Sonia. I wouldn't say he's a human dynamo but he's got a good heart.
"What's to come is to see whether he can navigate his way through social interactions to come out a winner or all alone."
