Happy birthday, Home and Away!

The much-loved Aussie soap, which made its TV debut on January 17, 1988, is planning on marking the occasion with a huge anniversary storyline, which will involve a number of much-loved characters.

The narrative in question will play out on UK screens in the coming months, and fans can certainly expect explosive scenes, with the popular serial drama?s milestone set to be a truly memorable one!

Home and Away, a staple of daytime TV for almost four decades, has given us countess iconic moments over the years, with births, deaths and weddings often at the centre of all the Summer Bay drama.

A number of cast members thought it only fitting to mark the show?s 35th anniversary with special messages, shared exclusively with Metro.co.uk, as they reflect on past successes, all the while revealing their favourite bits about working on the show.

?If you?ve been under a rock somewhere or you haven?t read anything or you haven?t heard anything, we are celebrating our 35th birthday!,? series icon Ray Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart, said.

?And look, I?d just like to wish everybody who?s ever worked on this show, ever been connected with this wonderful show, a very big happy birthday.?

Irene Roberts star Lynne McGranger very much echoed Ray?s sentiments, telling us: ?What do I love about being on the show? Absolutely everything! All the wonderful people I?ve met over the years, all the wonderful experiences. Happy birthday Home and Away!?

Our hearts.

Emily Symons, who plays Marilyn Chambers, reiterated her colleagues? thoughts, adding: ?I want to say happy birthday to our wonderful cast, our wonderful crew, and my Home and Away family.?

Xander Delaney star Luke Van Os was quick to wish the Channel 5 soap a ?huge happy birthday? and heaped praise on everyone who works on the show, giving a special shoutout to the make-up artists.

?I?m so privileged to be working on this show,? he said. ?My favourite part is the chats that I get with all the make-up girls, morning and night. They?re here longer hours than I am and they?re just the best support. Happy birthday to them, to everyone ? lets rock it!?

Kirsty Marillier, meanwhile, who plays Xander?s sister Rose, revealed an interesting fact about filming, telling us: ?One of the things I love best about Summer Bay is that I get paired with all of the tall, tall men in the show. So sometimes I have to stand on an apple box just so I can be as tall as them!?

Leah Patterson actress Ada Nicodemou gave a special mention to the show?s fans, as did Emily Weir (Mackenzie Booth), with both stars revealing how much they appreciate the loyal audience.

?It?s just really exciting because we?re celebrating 35 years, it?s our birthday!,? said Leah. ?And the best part of the celebrations are you guys, the fans, thank you so much for watching the show. The show wouldn?t be anything if it wasn?t for you.?

Emily added: ?The fans! We love you, thank you. You?re the reason we?ve been going for so long.?

Shane Withington, who plays John Palmer, joked that his favourite thing about being a part of Home and Away is the unique form of transport that filming in Summer Bay could only offer.

?I think my favourite part of being on the show is, quite frankly, sailing to work!? he said.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5Star, with first look episodes airing 6:30pm on 5Star.
