Coronation Street returnee Todd Boyce was concerned his character Stephen Reid would be recast.

Having not played Audrey Roberts' son for 15 years, doubts might naturally linger in your mind a bit.

While opening up about his long-awaited reappearance in Weatherfield, Reid spoke candidly about his fears.

"I watched the show all the time. I have ever since I was a kid in Australia, it was always on. Then I did it in 1996 and I've never stopped watching," the soap star revealed.

"I think I was living in fear that they might replace me and get someone else to play Stephen, if I was not available and they needed him to come back. Then in December, my agent said he got a call with an availability check for me to return and [asked], 'Was I interested?'

"I said I definitely was and then in January I had a Zoom call with [Corrie executive producer] Iain MacLeod, who told me about his plans for the character and I knew it was something I wanted to do, no doubt about it at all. I had a wonderful time last time, so I was excited to come back."

Further along, the star got onto the subject of reuniting with his old castmates, such as Tina O'Brien (Sarah Platt) and Jack P Shepherd (David Platt).

"It is absolutely wonderful," he said. "Everyone is older but the biggest change is Tina and Jack, they were out and about partying, going down to London with all the other young ones back then, and now they have children and are grown-ups!

"And doing scenes with Helen [Worth, who plays Gail Platt] and Sue [Nicholls, who plays Audrey] is making me feel very calm. It was a bit scary at first being back, but once I started working with them all I felt calm."

Stephen will make his grand return next week.

I cannot see him having come back just to look after his mom ... every character appearing to be kind and caring in soapland has a grim and dark secret... guess his business is failing and he needs capital injection ... would not mind being totally surprised just for once by no dealings behind anyone's back but I have just seen a pig fly past ...

I'm really looking forward to the eventual introduction of his wife Gabrielle, surely she's going to make an appearance at some point? She was first named all the way back in 1999 so I don't think the writers would pass up an opportunity to introduce a new character with such a wealth of history.

It has been confirmed by a leaked article that Stephen will inadvertently cause Leo's death later this month. The exact specifics are unclear but apparently he manslaughters Leo and leaves his body in a skip. I've seen a few people speculate that this death resembles Richard Hillman's involvement in Duggie Ferguson's demise and that Stephen's interfering wife Gabrielle could go the same way as Richard's wife Patricia.

Does anyone think that they could be rehashing the Richard Hillman storyline? We're approaching the 20th anniversary of his downfall in March next year.

Yes, he's getting killed off at some point this month. Todd Boyce who plays Stephen confirmed this in an interview. And by the spoilers it looks like this could be happening between 19th-23rd; "A dangerous stand- off leaves one resident in grave danger".

She is going on maternity leave but I hope it is not a permanent exit for her.. maybe Stephen will attempt another murder but cannot go through with it in the end or he gets found out and gets done for attempted fraud???

Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid won't be caught out soon
Coronation Street has revealed that show villain Stephen Reid won't get his comeuppance in the near future.
Stephen has faced various mishaps and setbacks in recent months while trying to cover up the death of Leo Thompkins and his other secrets.
Leo's dad Teddy recently realised that Stephen had a role to play in his son's disappearance. Sadly, Teddy was then immediately injured in a road accident and lost his memories.
In a recent chat with Digital Spy and other media, Corrie's producer Iain MacLeod confirmed that Stephen will pose a dangerous threat to Weatherfield for at least the next year. :( :moonie:
MacLeod explained: "Everyone should be worried! The whole cast is worried and asking: 'Is it going to be me?' Whenever I call an actor in for a chat, they say: 'That's it! Todd Boyce is going to do me in!'
"We know Stephen did away with Leo, partly out of necessity, and partly out of male pride when Leo called him an old man. Needless to say in a soap, no bodies ever stay buried for long, so Stephen encounters some fairly serious jeopardy in the form of Leo's dad Teddy.
"Teddy has the whiff of suspicion around Stephen and thinks he might have something to do with Leo's disappearance. We know what Stephen did last time he was backed into a corner, so the question is: to what lengths will he go to rid himself of this new threat?"
He continued: "The story is a bit like a film noir ? due to his fatal flaw of arrogance and egotism, a man's need to be top dog drives him into increasingly desperate acts over the next 12 months.
"There's lots to come, in the best tradition of Corrie villains. If you compare him to our esteemed bad guys of the past, he's got shades of Richard Hillman for me.
"It's that kind of pompous refusal to accept you're on the bones of your behind. He has the desire to present the image of the successful guy. Everything about what he's doing and about this story I find really exciting."

Coronation Street has hinted Tim Metcalfe may become the next victim of serial killer Stephen Reid.

Unfortunately for fan-favourite Tim, he ends up on Stephen's bad side over his objections to the killer's recent engagement to his mother Elaine Jones.

Stephen isn't keen on marrying Elaine either, as he'd accidentally proposed while he was high on the LSD he'd intended to use on Carla Connor at Underworld.

In scenes set to air next week on ITV, Stephen continues trying to delay actually moving in with Elaine, though he's given little wiggle room when she tells her son Tim and his wife Sally of her plans.

Tim is immediately opposed to his mother moving in with Elaine, no less her plans to actually marry the slimy businessman.

During a tense conversation, Tim makes the incredibly short-sighted mistake of telling his nemesis he'd rather die than have his mother marry Stephen.

The soap has left it up in the air over whether Stephen will take Tim's words of warning literally and try to add him to his Kill List.

Over the past months, Stephen has gone from reluctant to remorseless as he claimed the lives of more victims in Weatherfield.

His first victim, Leo Thompkins, was killed by accident ? but then Stephen proactively murdered Leo's father Teddy to prevent the first death from being exposed.

Stephen most recently was shown taking perverse pleasure in drugging and drowning his business rival Rufus.

While police haven't linked him to the crimes, Stephen's luck is about to change when he's blackmailed over Rufus's murder.

Utter BULL!!!

Coronation Street star Todd Boyce has opened up about a last-minute change he made to Stephen Reid's serial killer storyline.

The character has been on a murder spree since his return to the cobbles last year, though the actor explained in a new interview that his original victim Leo was originally written as more of an 'accident'.

Speaking to The Daily Star about Stephen's future, Todd said: ?I don?t see anyone else on the horizon in terms of who could be killed. We?re not that far ahead, so they could surprise me at any time.

?At one point I was [trying to surpass Pat Phelan?s kill count]. I was trying to get the grandstands on telly, I want to be the one who?s killed the most."

He went on to reveal: ?But in a sense, I think he?s an accidental killer. When he first killed Leo, it was actually scripted to be more of a scruffle for the phone and then he went over.

?But I decided, ?Let?s let Stephen have a little more to do with that?.?

At present, the walls seem to be closing in a bit on Stephen, and asked about his possible exit, Todd teased: ?There?s no end in sight but I have a feeling he?ll get caught.

?I would like personally for him to go out in a blaze of glory, I don?t want him to disappear and go back. I want something finite because I think the audience is losing their minds."

https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/a44614111/coronation-street-spoilers-stephen-sarah-baby-mystery/

Coronation Street villain Stephen Reid starts playing a role in Sarah Barlow's ongoing baby storyline next week.

Sarah is in for a shock when she realises that her scheming uncle is in possession of her DNA test results.

Viewers know that Sarah recently arranged a prenatal paternity test to determine whether the father of her unborn baby is her husband Adam Barlow or recent lover Damon Hay.

In the end, Sarah lied to Adam by claiming that the clinic had contacted her over the phone to confirm that he's the dad.

She then tore up the real results and put them in a bin outside Victoria Garden, deciding not to read them as she was better off not knowing.

Next week, Sarah decides to help Stephen after he's evicted from the flat that he has been sharing with Elaine Jones.

Friday's episode (July 21) saw Elaine decide that she couldn't trust Stephen anymore after uncovering various evidence of his deceit, so she ended their relationship.

When Sarah and her mum Gail pick up Stephen's things from the flat, she notices her paternity test results among his belongings.

This would appear to suggest that Stephen fished them out of the bin after Sarah thought she'd disposed of them forever.

How will Stephen explain himself if Sarah chooses to confront him? Has he read the results? And with a big week ahead for the Sarah and Adam story, could Stephen play a central role in the drama that's about to kick off?

https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/a44763773/coronation-street-stephen-reid-murder-plan/

Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid has found his next target. Images from the set of the ITV soap have shown that the killer will go after Tim Metcalfe next, after his mum Elaine recently called off her engagement to Stephen.

In one image, Stephen, played by Todd Boyce, is seen trying to strangle 'Tim' (actually actor Joe Duttine's stunt double) with a tie whilst he drives his car. Another behind-the-scenes shot shows Boyce posing with Duttine and the stunt double for a promo shot.

It's no surprise that Stephen would go after Tim, as last month the pair were involved in a violent brawl after Tim discovered that his mum's fianc? had forged life insurance documents in her name.

During the pair's scuffle, Stephen suffered a head injury which led to him being hospitalised and rushed into emergency surgery. Tim was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, but later released without charge.

When Stephen woke up he told police he had simply fallen and hit his head, meaning Tim was off the hook for good.

But despite Stephen lying to the police to protect her son, Elaine wasn't willing to take him back and she soon announced she'd be leaving Weatherfield temporarily to stay with a friend in order to get over the split.

Earlier this month Boyce spoke about how much fun he's been having playing the soap villain.

"I feel exhilarated more than exhausted, because it's just been so much fun," he told Inside Soap. "I love Corrie so much ? I'm such a huge fan. I grew up in Australia and it was always on ? it was really popular when I was a teenager there.

"I knew the characters, the cobbles, the world. I moved to the UK in 1989 ? since I was cast [as Stephen] in 1996, I've only ever missed an episode when I've been travelling. It's just a world that I love, and I pinch myself every day that I drive through the gates."

Craig Tinker is set to make a grisly body discovery as part of the Stephen Reid storyline on Coronation Street.

The ITV soap is due to revisit Stephen's murder of Teddy Thompkins earlier this year in upcoming scenes, as his body is discovered in the canal.

New filming pictures show Craig finding a body hidden in the water, which comes after Tim Metcalfe follows Stephen to the site amid his suspicions over the killer.

Could Stephen finally be about to be caught out?

Last month, it was confirmed that Stephen's dark secrets will catch up with him, with the soap setting the stage for his downfall.

Stephen murdered Teddy after the latter discovered that Stephen had killed his son Leo, before hiding his body in a car roof box and then disposing of it in the canal. Stephen has since been spending months covering up his crimes amid many lies and near-misses.

Teasing his character's future, star Todd Boyce previously spoke about how Stephen's comeuppance could happen.

"We are going to see him start taking risks as he gets more desperate," he said. "His life is starting to unravel and it is going to be interesting to see how he deals with the pressure. He is bound to start making mistakes and that could be his undoing."

In other Coronation Street news, Craig actor Colson Smith has marked a milestone of 12 years on the soap with a throwback photo of his younger self to showcase his journey.

https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/a44807028/coronation-street-stephen-reid-possible-exit/

Time may be up for Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid as actor Todd Boyce has been spotted filming some potential exit scenes.

Disgraced businessman Stephen has turned to murder over the last year on the cobbles, leaving several dead bodies in his wake. Recently, the killer offed business rival Rufus Donahue in what looked like an accidental drowning.

In new paparazzi photos taken during filming, Boyce can be seen in character as Stephen as he wanders at an airport, black briefcase in hand.

Will the baddie leave Weatherfield behind before his crimes catch up with him? It seems likely, particularly as the villain is currently in panic mode and could make a fatal mistake at any minute.

These pictures come a few days after different paparazzi photos showed the soap filming scenes of Craig Tinker discovering Teddy Thompkins' body.

Could Stephen's time be running out?

On screens currently, Stephen is trying to avoid getting caught out over Rufus' death. While Rufus' drowning was initially treated as a tragic accident, his widow Lou became suspicious there may have been foul play when she found a tie pin (belonging to Stephen) among the belongings that were left near his body.

Boyce's character goes to great lengths to retrieve the pin, almost getting busted in the process.

As Stephen's list of victims gets longer, his web of lies is becoming more intricate too. It's only natural for him to seek a permanent getaway and the airport scenes may be providing him with just that.

The snaps, however, offer no indication as to where Stephen is planning to jet off to. Could he go back to Canada or head to a new destination? Viewers will find out soon enough.

Of course, the murderer could also be meeting a mystery person at the airport. Particularly, the briefcase may suggest Stephen is being blackmailed and needs to pay someone off in exchange for their silence..

I suspect we get a lot of these red herrings, I am still convinced that he will be exposed at Christmas .....

https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/a44876220/coronation-street-sarah-barlow-stephen-reid-suspicions/

Coronation Street's Sarah Barlow will become the latest person to harbour suspicions over Stephen Reid next week, as she starts to spot some unusual patterns in her killer uncle's behaviour.

The twist begins when Angelique Simmons breaks the news to the Underworld team that her company won't be renewing the Nippersnapper contract that was secured earlier this year.

Stephen responds to the news by telling Sarah, Carla Barlow and Michael Bailey that he would consider buying the company outright.

However, Tim Metcalfe surprises Sarah by warning her that Stephen is a liar who claimed that he was coercively controlled by his ex-wife, Gabrielle, but later tried to pass her off as a business consultant for the factory.

Sarah later discovers that Gail Rodwell and Audrey Roberts both knew about Gabrielle's supposed treatment of Stephen, and she decides to give Gabrielle a call to get to the bottom of things. What will Gabrielle say when she hears from Sarah?

Meanwhile, Audrey shows Gail a statement from an equity release company, after Stephen secretly released equity from her house earlier this year without telling her.

Sarah's suspicions continue to grow when Audrey shows her the equity release letter and wonders if it has anything to do with the estate agent visit that Stephen organised for her house.

This is yet more proof that Stephen may have been up to no good behind his family's backs.

Later on, in the factory, Sarah overhears Stephen talking to Jenny Connor, who he manages to seduce next week, on the phone about the Rovers Return deal. Wrongly assuming that he's speaking to Angelique about the Nippersnapper situation, she decides to follow him.

After tailing Stephen, Sarah finds him at the hotel and threatens to call the police, believing that he's about to pull a fast one on the deal.

Has Stephen lost Sarah's support for good - and could this put her in danger of becoming yet another of Stephen's victims?

https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/a44892011/coronation-street-spoilers-todd-boyce-stephen-change/

Todd Boyce has confirmed a change in Stephen Reid's Coronation Street storyline.

Weatherfield's latest serial killer will finally feel remorse in upcoming scenes when he's faced with the trauma caused by one of his murders.

Stephen viciously killed business rival Rufus months ago and has taken great pains to cover up the crime. However, he'll start questioning himself when he meets with Rufus's young son at a memorial service.

Ahead of these scenes airing, cast member Todd Boyce has explained why Stephen is so shaken to see the direct consequences of his vengeful killing.

"He thinks he's dealt with it by diverting attention to Peter and the watch, but the real issue is here that for one of the first times, he feels contrition after meeting Rufus' son at the memorial," Todd said.

"He's emotional about that for the first time. He's always been able to compartmentalise prior to this and move on from these murderers in a really extraordinary way. But not that one."

The actor continued: "He hated Rufus and he had to get rid of him, but to be faced with the ex-wife saying what a good dad he was and seeing how upset his son was has affected him, and that is not helping him to keep a clear head when this is the time he really needs to do so.

"He's not able to just move on. With Teddy and Leo, he didn't really see the effects on the family. He didn't really care about how Teddy felt about Leo?s disappearance. But seeing a child reacting in that way affected him just to see this child's entire life being destroyed."

The killer could be in trouble, as more Weatherfield residents have started to suspect he may be up to no good.

As he's already made an enemy of both Peter Barlow and Tim Metcalfe recently, Stephen's own niece Sarah Barlow will be warned about how dangerous her uncle may be in upcoming scenes.

A possible exit was recently filmed for Stephen, leading to questions over whether the murderer is finally about to be caught out...

Coronation Street's Stephen Reid has been confirmed to be exiting, with the cast seen saying goodbye to star Todd Boyce.
Boyce first appeared as Stephen in 1996, subsequently making a guest appearance in 2007 before returning full-time last year.
The businessman has been in a pickle in his latest stint, with his quest for commercial success driving him to murder (more than once), but the end is now in sight.
Ahead of his on-screen departure next month, Todd went for a celebratory farewell with his cast mates, with attendees including Helen Worth, Jack P Shepherd, Tina O?Brien, Paula Wilcox, Mollie Gallagher, Julia Goulding and Colson Smith.
One photo from the event saw Boyce with his thumbs up towards the camera, while another showed Gallagher, Shepherd and Goulding making their way to the farewell.
While we don?t exactly know how Stephen will exit the show, fans will get a chance to watch the character?s farewell with Boyce himself, with an event being planned on Friday, October 13.
The Coronation Street Experience is a live event hosted by the 'Soap Queen' Sharon Marshall, giving fans the chance to ask Boyce about the soap in a Q&A, which will take place after the airing of the episode.
?I can?t wait to watch our fans watch me, with me, as my storyline heads towards one of its biggest moments yet,? said Boyce of the event.
?That said, I?m slightly nervous at their reaction - they all know what Stephen?s been up to, I?m just hoping Sharon is as good a bodyguard as I know she will be a host.?

Please be to prison for Stephen

Yes and no. It would, of course, see him getting justice instead of the weasel way out Soaps generally devise for their villains by having them die in some way.

On the other hand, if he is in prison, there is always the prospect that he could get out one day and return to our screens....

Coronation Street revisits the fallout from Stephen Reid's reign of terror next week.

Jenny Connor and Carla Barlow consider doing their own detective work when the police refuse to investigate a new line of enquiry into Stephen's crimes.

In upcoming scenes, Jenny prepares for the Rovers Return to potentially reopen as Daisy Midgeley and Daniel Osbourne make plans to buy the business from Waterfords.

Jenny logs onto Stephen's laptop to retrieve her list of suppliers. While doing so, she finds the last file that Stephen edited on the day that he died, titled 'Infinity Seagull Ventures'.

Believing this requires further investigation, Jenny and Carla visit the police station to flag up the file. They hope that it could help to track down the money that Stephen stole from the factory in his final hours.

DS Swain dismisses this, insisting that the force doesn't have the resources to spend time cracking the password on the file.

Meanwhile, Stephen's grieving mum Audrey Roberts refuses to bin the remainder of his things.

The Platts find Stephen's journal, which contains years' worth of scribblings from the villain.

When Audrey later visits The Kabin while clutching the notebook, she explains to Carla and Jenny that it belonged to Stephen.

Carla and Jenny realise that this book could hold the key to Stephen's passwords, but will Audrey be willing to part with it to help them?

Coronation Street's producer Iain MacLeod previously teased that the reopening of the Rovers Return will centre around a mysterious criminal act.

MacLeod told Digital Spy and other media last month: "[The Rovers is] not going to stay closed for that long. In fact, it reopens on New Year's Eve, but the interesting thing is that the circumstances of it becoming open again are all tied up with Stephen's legacy.

"Somebody will do something that is at best, naughty, at worst, slightly criminal to get their hands on the keys to the pub and reopen it. So it will reopen, but the reopening of it will be based on this slightly shaky foundation of a criminal act."
