Former Eastenders star Shaun Williamson has said that life on Albert Square has become too violent since his departure and admitted that it has put him off watching the soap.

The 40-year-old actor, who played long-term loser Barry Evans in the show, also bans his three children from watching the soap because he thinks there is too much sex and violence in it, the Sun reports.

Shaun, whose own character came to a violent end in the soap after scheming screen wife Janine pushed him off a cliff, is now working in the more serene world of the theatre, starring in Saturday Night Fever.

“EastEnders is on when I put the children to bed,” the actor said.

“I don’t know if I would tune in anyway, it’s got more and more violent recently.”

“I certainly wouldn’t let my kids watch it.”

Is he joking,ee has had no violence since feb,all soaps have elements of violence thats part of their realism and what makes them interesting, the news shows more violence and thats all true so really thats more scary for kids to listen to,as for ee theres got to be more violence in a nursury playground than we've seen in ee latly, sour grapes on his part i'd say and its not gonna help him get nore work with people knowing he s slagging of his last job also he wasnt worried about other peoples kids when he was getting big pay checks for acting in such a so called violent programme was he

He's probably trying to sound contraversial and instead just as boring as the charector he played

EE is not exactly the Godfather is it? I don't think it's too violent to be honest.

I miss Janine too, she is a fantastic character, and played the part well!

One point he might be right about i wouldn't say its to violent but they have ruined the soap by having to many murders, barry'paul, andy and den all from one small community ,all murdered in just over a year,2 by their wives and 2 by the mob,one thing if took seriously by little boys then they would be scared to get married

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 10:40
If you think about it, loads of people have been murdered in such a small community over the last few years.

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 12:28
Well thats drama for you. If these places actually exsisted then they would all be having nervous brake downs and spend the rest of the time seeing a counsellor.

Dr. Tangliss

Can you imagine! I would go mad with trying to keep up to date with all the coming and going, lol!

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 12:34
I'd have given up by now, i'd never come out my house.

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 12:36
Lol! I would not even attend my local pub, just in case the ex landlord was buried under the celler floor.

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 12:37
You just would go out, you never know what might happen!

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 12:38
It would be very interesting though, life would never be dull!

Jessie Wallace

Dull on, but everyone would die of heart attacks with everything that goes on.

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 12:41
True, it would be very stressful, lol!

I think I know why the Vic is the only place to have a washing machine, too. Pauline has always worked in the laundrette, den has never got on with her, hence he went out to buy one in order to avoid her, lol!

Sorry for the totally random thought

It's not like you see any blood or anything.:searchme:

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 12:44
No they can leave the fake blood to Casualty and Holby city.

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 12:45
Yeah, but a bit of fake blood would make it seem much more realistic

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 12:47
Yeah, but it's shown to early.

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 12:47

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 12:49

Dens death was more tongue in cheek than anything else hence the animated murder weapon. Andys could be percieved as violent but I thought that was also panto too.

Treacle

It has done some great portrayals of violence in the past though that were much worse look at Little Mo getting battered and raped by Trevor or having her face shoved into the christmas dinner.

Because it's uncool to like EastEnders at the moment.

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 13:34

It made Patsy Palmer well known but she's not done a lot since :)

They're all heading off all starry eyed to Hollywood more like Hollyoaks!

Some go off to start these huge careers on the stage too but even that doesn't take off and they end up doing the odd panto.

Treacle
05-08-2005, 13:36

Yes but it won't stop people thinking it's uncool to like the programme.

And I also think the violence in EastEnders has been pretty low recently :)

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 13:47
Yes, it has. Slowed just after Christmas, when Den and Andy were murdered.

Treacle
05-08-2005, 13:48
He's only complaining because they wouldn't let him go off and do panto when he wanted.

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 13:50
Really! I never knew that!

I miss Paul. He met a horrible end too.

Treacle
05-08-2005, 13:53
Really! I never knew that!

I miss Paul. He met a horrible end too.
Yeah he left because he wanted to leave to go and do a panto for a while but they said no so he spat his dummy out!

I suppose it was a bit unfair because they let others take time out to do panto but I suppose they just didn't think of him as an important character anymore.

Treacle
05-08-2005, 13:53
Paul's exit could be percieved as violent too but we didn't really see it on-screen we just knew what had happened.

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 13:54
It was a shame he left, Paul that is.

Barry's death was dramatic.

Treacle
05-08-2005, 13:56
Apparently the actor who played Paul, Gary Beadle turned up to work late and he'd been drinking and he fluffed up his lines so they axed him.

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 14:10
No way!!!!

How do you know all this?

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 14:14
She's not Walford Queen for nothing you know!

Dr. Tangliss
05-08-2005, 14:16

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 14:24

Treacle

Jessie Wallace
05-08-2005, 14:27
Walfor Queen - the fountain of all knowledge.

Dr. Tangliss

Treacle
06-08-2005, 03:34
Plus he was happy to be involved in being killed off in a violent way :) Although I wouldn't say it was shockingly violent or anything!

Jessie Wallace
06-08-2005, 11:18
I thought he'd asked to be killed off.

Bad Wolf
06-08-2005, 11:20

06-08-2005, 12:03

Jessie Wallace
06-08-2005, 12:03

Treacle
06-08-2005, 14:03
