Helen Fielding has begun writing Bridget Jones columns again for the Independent.
Wary of writing another novel for the sake of it, Fielding has decided it best to take the character back to her origins.
Asked by Radio 1 whether Jones had marriage in her future, she replied: "Well I don't know, I think if she did something would go horribly wrong, she'd spill red nail varnish down her dress at the last minute and tread on her train.
"I can say that it's definitely a different chapter in her life. It's definitely a new thing, because I didn't want to just write another episode for the sake of it.
"She's still the same person, she hasn't really got it together, she hasn't stopped smoking, she hasn't stopped drinking, she's still on a diet.
"She's still got the same people in her life, but she's about to set off in another direction."
The new column began in today's Independent.
