View Full Version : MSN to cost?
My friend told me that it will cost to sign in to MSN from Saturday 6th August 2005. Has anyone else heard this or know wether or not it is true.
I haven't heard that it will
Where did your friend find that out from?

omg it better not be true!
They would have to tell the users, they couldn't just suddenly decide to do it. I haven't been tolf anything, so maybe it isn't true
She didn't say where she heard it from, I will ask her the next time I speak to her.

i dont reckon it is true. cause none of my friends have heard anything and you'd think at least one would. and it just seems a bit weird really
I just checked on the MSN site. It doesn't mention anything about it, so i'm guessing its just a rumour. The bit where you download it doesn't mention anything either.

OMG    i hope not i don't want to end up npaying for the use of msn
I googled it as well, and it came up with nothing
MSN doesn't even need to charge, they earn enough money using other means.
I'd just get yahoo or aim if they did. MSN would lose a lot of users if they charged

I recieved that in e-mail, and trust me I know its not true. MSN would never charge...Im going to try and contact them to confirm this... shall let you know if anyone else dosen't get there before me :) :p
I expect there is an option to upgrade and you have to pay or somthing, as you can upgrade with hotmail and yahoo etc for more storage but you have to pay?
Yeah you can do that. They cant just change it to pay without warnings they would have sent an email or an alert when you opened up if this were true
it might be saying that you can have special features/ upgrade. i hope they dont chrage. my whole year goes on!!
I think its a load of tosh now that everyone will have to pay. The whole idea of it just beign to those who want special features makes sense.
Do you think it would be a one-of-payment, or a monthly fee
If they are it will probably be a monthly fee but i very much doubt it
The whole idea that it would be to those who want to upgrade and get more features seems pretty reasonable though
Yeah i would agree with that i mean hotmail have been doing that for years
and it hasn't really affected many people so i dont think its a subkect to be that bothered about

Read on the net (wish i could remember what site it was now) that there new version of messenger that you will have to pay to use but u dont have to upgrade but it wasnt an msn website so wether its true or not i dont know
well atleast we wont have to pay then
snglover- was it MSN plus?
Nope he has that :D so it cant be that
ah ok, thats the only sort that i could think of that was a version of MSN produced by another company
Thats just an add on i think
Is it? I dont have it, so i dont know!

If you do want to get the new one and if you do have to pay for it normally its hard to find but I always get this.. its called BETA versions.. Its the tests before they actually release the new thing which is like 3-6 months after the BETA. They don't allow you to use BETA on MSN but I manage to get it and always try the new stuff out :D
yeah, sounds good. i always get the beta versions
the last beta wasnt at good a lot of things didn't work on it

Yep it always worked fine for me, depends which site you get it form though.
i get mine from the msn messenger site
I still have MSN 6.2, cant be bothered to update it, because virus' always attach to my msn's when i updat, so i cant be bothered to try and get rid of that
do you have anti virus software?
yeah but it still gets in. I have Ad-aware, AVG, Norton, BT Modem protect and 3 firewalls, but they still get in....
oh. thats weird, i dont. i use f- secure and it does fine, with adaware aswell. are they turned on??
yeah they scan twice everytime its turned on and update when the interent is connected
I know, anyway i just dont bother downloading that much stff now, unless its essential. MSN is down the list
oh, ok i download loadsa stuff... i like being upto date etc
I'd like to, but i prefer to have a computer that works with older programmes, then one that wont work at all.

Same here, once every month or 2 I give my computer a full clean out, I deleate files and photos and stuff which I don't need, conversations and all and then I give my computer 3 scans, one at a time and the next day... wallah a brand new computer :D Always does the trick. I need to give it a cleanout today, since Im going out tommarow and continue cleanout on Sunday :p
Thats a good idea, but i'm too lazy
yeah why?
i was just wondering if you were on an earlier operating system and then the software wasnt configured to somwthing other than xp
Well i i've gone through my whole computer, and revamped it. I'm updating Zonealarm at hte minute, done Norton, AVG and Ad Aware already. I've done a clean up, and de-fragmented it. I've run all my virus and spyware checkers, and deleted everything that i dont need anymore so freeing up more memory and its STILL not working.
strange. did you upgrade or buy a completely new pc?

Sorry guys but this has gone off topic from the original subject of MSN costing to use! Also, the date when MSN was supposedly going to cost (6/8/05) has passed and MSN is still free!
If you've got any other MSN probs then just start a new thread because it's easier to find all the different conversations then
