Emmerdale has recast Dawn Taylor's son Lucas, with young actor Noah Ryan Aspinall making his debut in the role on the ITV soap in Monday night's (December 20) episode.
Monday evening's instalment marked the first appearance of Noah Ryan Aspinall as Lucas, taking over from previous actor Dexter Ansell, as Lucas' father Alex rocked up to the village and introduced himself ? against Dawn's wishes ? to the little lad.
Ansell's last onscreen appearance was back in March. The show hasn't given any specific reason as to why Lucas has been recast, but it's quite common for young characters to be switched out as they get older.
Lucas is set to be at the centre of a dramatic new storyline going forward now that former drug addict Alex has forced his way back into the boy and his mum Dawn's life. Lucas will also have a role to play as the secret romance between Dawn (Olivia Bromley) and Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) continues to play out.
In scenes that aired on Monday, Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) questioned why boyfriend Billy had been so secretive recently, but ultimately put it down to the fact that he must've been shopping for her Christmas present ? something Billy was quick to go along with.
Later though, she was enraged when she spotted Billy passionately defending Dawn as she argued with Alex on the street.
In her anger, she approached Alex and tried to convince him that Dawn, Billy and Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) were bad news.
"Don't be fooled by the dog collar. The vicar, she drinks. Social services were involved, Lucas almost went back into care," Meena told Alex. "Dawn checking your arms for needle marks? You should be doing that to her."
She also went on to say that Billy is fresh out of prison after doing a stint for GBH, and hinted that Lucas is being neglected by those who are looking after him.
"You have to help him," Meena urged. "Somebody has to protect Lucas."
With Meena's lies in his head, what will Alex do with this information?
