Samuel L. Jackson is to star in and co-produce a live-action adaptation of Takashi Okazaki's Japanese comic franchise Afro Samurai.
The comic follows the futuristic adventure of a black samurai in a feudal Japan on a mission to avenge the death of his father.
Variety reports that the project is a joint venture between Japanese animators GDH KK Gonzo, Fuji TV and Los Angeles-based Mosaic Media.
Jackson has also agreed to voice an animated series for the franchise.
Production for the live-action movie is slated for 2006 in the hope of a 2007 release.
