While both Housemates were lying in their beds, Eugene has told Derek about his lack of social skills and how being in the House has helped him.
However, Derek has assured him that he should just be himself.
"My problem is, I could explain to you in reasonable detail how this TV camera works but, let's be honest about it, I don't know how to behave at a party," said Eugene.
He continued: "I've got the brains but haven't necessarily used them in the right way. Only since coming out of university have I started to master the art of socialising."
Derek said that in contrast, he has always had enormous social confidence and arrogance and added: "I didn't always think of myself as clever, although when I was young I was called the professor."
Perhaps Derek could play Professor Henry Higgins to Eugene's Eliza Doolittle? After all, Eugene's already on his way to developing those skills.
"I'm not afraid to be irritating," Eugene said. "But coming in here, I did grow out of the arrogance of thinking I'm brilliant through these little knocks of being a geek."
The lovable nerd has also been researching the subject. "I learnt quite a lot from reading a simple book on social skills," he said. "Only 40 pages long though..."
However, Derek wisely assured him that there was no need to go changing just to please others.
"You can be very different, but don't let people put obstacles in your way and tell you that you can't succeed by being different," the oldest Housemate said.
And with that they said their goodnights and went to sleep.
