There's been a few sad departures from Neighbours recently, most notably the Rebecchi family and Pierce Greyson following THAT shock affair.

As is the revolving door of the soap world, when someone leaves Ramsay Street it usually leaves the room for someone new to enter.

In this case that someone isn't just anyone, with the show announcing its newest resident is none other than Aussie model, Montana Cox.

Taking to Instagram Neighbours revealed the news with a photo of the 27-year-old on set.

"We are thrilled to announce that Montana Cox will be heading to Erinsborough soon! Keep your eyes peeled, you won't want to miss this! 👀 #Neighbours @montanacox1," the post reads.

While Montana hasn't given away any details or addressed the news on her own socials she did leave a loving heart face emoji comment on the show's announcement.

Fans eagerly began guessing how Montana's character would fit into the show, some pointing out the resemblance the model bares to former Neighbours star Zoe Crammond, who played Amy Williams.

Many speculated that she could be yet another of Paul's long-lost children or a potential new love interest for Ned.

We will just have to wait and see!

Montana shot to stardom in 2011 when at just 17-years-old she won season 7 of Australia's Next Top Model. She has had a successful career in the fashion world since.

While this may be Montana's first official venture into acting, we have no doubt she's going to absolutely kill it.

Neighbours has announced a new arrival to Erinsborough, as the soap has cast Australian model Montana Cox.

The news was revealed on Neighbours' official Instagram account, with the soap sharing a photo of Montana on set.

"We are thrilled to announce that Montana Cox will be heading to Erinsborough soon," the caption read. "Keep your eyes peeled, you won't want to miss this!"

A Neighbours spokesperson confirmed to Digital Spy that Montana will be playing a character rather than herself, revealing that the model began filming her guest role this week and that she will make her acting debut on the show later in 2021.

It has also been revealed that her character is named Britney Barnes. Neighbours has featured another character with the same surname - Oliver Barnes - although it is not yet clear whether the characters are any relation.

Oliver (David Hoflin) appeared on the soap between 2007 and 2008, and again in 2011, and was introduced as the son of Rebecca Napier (Jane Hall). He went on to get together with Carmella Cammeniti (Natalie Blair), and they welcomed daughter Chloe in 2008.

"I'm so excited for my guest role in Neighbours," Montana said of her stint. "For my first ever acting role to be on Ramsay Street is such a privilege and I can't wait for everyone to meet my character."

It is not yet clear whether Britney will have a connection to any current Ramsay Street residents, or who she might be getting involved with after she arrives, but fans have already begun making suggestions about who she could be, from Hendrix Greyson's (Benny Turland) sister to a long-lost child of Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis).

Melbourne-born Montana rose to fame in 2011 when she won the seventh season of Australia's Next Top Model at the age of 17, and she has gone on to have a busy career in the fashion world, including headlining the recent Sydney Fashion Festival.

Britney's arrival will follow a big exit from Bea Nilsson (Bonnie Anderson), who will be departing Erinsborough next week after deciding to embark on a road trip with the new Sheila Canning (Shareena Clanton).

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
