Johnny Depp invented the voice he used for Willy Wonka while playing with his six-year-old daughter, Lily-Rose.
"A lot of times what happens is you come up with these ideas and you never get to try them until a read through," eecho.ie quotes the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actor as saying.
"I often play Barbies with Lily-Rose. Sometimes I will put on an accent and she'll say: 'Daddy don't use that voice'.
"Then we were playing one day and I started to use my Wonka voice, and she kinda lit up a bit, like, 'Where's that coming from?' And I thought: 'All right, I think I'm on the right track here.'
"Children are always the most honest audience you'll get. Whenever Lily-Rose and Jack would watch the Gene Wilder film on DVD, I would immediately run out of the room because I didn't want to be influenced by his performance one way or the other."
