This year to commemorate ITV’s 50th anniversary The Bill will be celebrating with another live episode.
Attracting over 11 million viewers, the audience were amazed by the remarkable achievement of The Bill’s first attempt at an hour long live special in 2003 and this year’s event promises to be even more ambitious.
The live episode will be based at Sun Hill police station and the regular cast will be involved in a highly dramatic siege storyline, also marking the beginning of the downfall of infamous baddie PC Gabriel Kent. The stakes are raised for actors and production staff alike with the inclusion of increased stunts and action.
Series Producer Alison Davis said: “Since the success of our first live episode nearly two years ago, the audience have been very keen for a re-run. The unpredictable experience of live television seemed to be the perfect tribute to the channel as it celebrates 50 extraordinary years of broadcasting.”
Corinne Hollingworth, Head of Drama for ITV said: “We are really thrilled about the prospect of another live episode of The Bill. It's one of our most popular shows and the added energy and excitement that a live episode brings to the screen, will provide a real treat for our viewers.”

The ratings for 'The Bill' have always remained pretty consistent anyways apart from a dip due to the summer which most regular programmes are experiencing too.There's only so much interest you can drum up for a 'contained drama' set and limited to a particular location/subject.

I don't know. ITV1 is currently ailing though and at risk of disappearing from our screens for good so not a very good 50th anniversary for the channel I'm afraid but no doubt the ITV1 bigwigs will come up with more celebrity ideas to save the channel.
It's like one of those trashy Sky channels at the moment. Anyways this is why this live episode of 'The Bill' could do it some good. Having a bit of decent programming around the time of it's anniversary is what's needed to restore faith in the channel and it's current ridiculous line-up.

yeah although i presume that sheelagh n gabriel will feature heavily init aswel as its the start of his story but that could be aside from the seige as im sure more than one thing will be going on init! i also hope/presumme that jack gina smithy n june reg n tony will be init as there all long timers and are capable and most proberly neil as he joined the cast when they did the last one but coulnt be init as his character hadnt been shown on screen yet!! im hoping that lance dan steve rochelle jt are all left out of it!

i like em aswell but not sure if the could handle the pressure of a live ep plus i think that there are characters more deserving of playing a part for either being long timers or on there ability or both in some cases! Not everyone will be able to take part soo i think they should be cruel to be kind n not put pple in who wouldnt cope under the pressure imo anyways
