James Farrar has addressed the possibility of a love triangle for Zack following this week's car crash.

Wednesday night's episode (July 7) ? which has also been able to watch early on an iPlayer boxset ? featured the aftermath of a drunken Zack's distraction, causing Frankie to accidentally run down her half-sister Nancy.

Zack initially covers up the cause of the crash to protect Frankie, leading to some confusion in her mind as she thinks there may be a romantic spark between them.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy recently, Zack actor James Farrar weighed in on where his character's affections really lie between Frankie and Nancy.

"Frankie is his second option but his true feelings will be shown after the car crash," he explained. "It's been Nancy from day one. I'm looking forward to the next couple of weeks ? it's massive what happens.

"The crash is the perfect way to show how much Zack cares for Nancy. I think Frankie might like to think she could have a chance with Zack, but he's feelings are definitely elsewhere."

Farrar's comments lead to new questions over whether Zack was trying to help Frankie, or simply protect himself, by covering up the truth of the crash.

"It's hard as I know what's happened since," he admitted. "I would say Frankie, and then himself. Zack's heart has always been in the right place and the worst thing about it is that if anything was to come out later on, he would be viewed as the selfish guy who is out for himself: wanted to go drinking and then crashed the car, who can't look after Frankie, can't look after himself.

"It's not just the guilt that is going to eat him up but it's what it does to Nancy ? he clearly cares about her a lot.

"His heart is in the right place. Zack does eventually hold his hands up about the crash but if he had done this all along things could have been a very different story. We've all done similar things on a smaller scale and thought we could keep it under wraps, but it's EastEnders so we can't keep things under wraps."
