Coronation Street has revealed that Sean Tully's son Dylan Wilson will pay a visit to the cobbles next week.

Liam McCheyne ? who shared the part of Dylan with his twin brother Connor in 2011 and 2012 ? has reprised the role for the upcoming scenes.

Sean (Antony Cotton) and Dylan will play a role in the ongoing drama surrounding Todd Grimshaw's return to the cobbles, in scenes which help to show a softer side to Eileen's son again.

When Sean arrives home with Dylan after some time away, he's shocked to find Todd (Gareth Pierce) there.

By this point in the storyline, Todd has moved back into Number 11 and is hoping that his troubles with gangster Mick Costello are behind him.

Dylan's return doesn't come without drama, as Sean later panics when he realises that he has lost the youngster.

Fortunately, Todd is on hand to find Dylan and they end up having a heart-to-heart in the ginnel.

With Sean and Dylan facing some challenges at the moment, Todd kindly reassures the schoolboy that his dad loves him.

Sean is hugely grateful when he realises how much Todd has helped.

One person who isn't so impressed by Todd's behaviour is his ex-boyfriend Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), who complains about how manipulative he is.

Billy's current partner Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) is concerned by this, spotting how much Todd has clearly got under his skin.

Sean fathered Dylan with Violet Wilson in 2007. Although Dylan lives away from the Street and rarely appears on screen, Sean and Dylan have remained in contact over the years.

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday, October 23 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

Coronation Street star Antony Cotton has revealed that Sean Tully's son Dylan Wilson was originally supposed to return a year ago.

Dylan reappears in Weatherfield in tonight's double bill (October 23), which marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Sean.

Viewers will see that Dylan is initially heading back to the cobbles to spend half-term with his dad. However, show bosses have decided to make Dylan a permanent character beyond this.

Liam McCheyne, who shared the role of Dylan with his twin brother Connor in 2011 and 2012, will be reprising the role.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, Antony explained: "This was originally going to happen 12 months ago, with a different kind of story. Then stuff happens, as it always does, where something else was brought in and it was too similar. Something happened and it didn't happen when it was supposed to.

"But at the time when I was told that it wasn't going to happen, [Corrie producer] Iain MacLeod also said to me: 'Don't worry, it is going to happen in another scenario but it's going to take a bit of time'.

"Then COVID happened. Dylan should have actually been on screen a lot sooner, but then it all went wrong. And even before that, he should have been on screen a year ago but in a different incarnation!"

On the decision to bring back Liam in the role, Antony continued: "For me there was only ever going to be Liam or Connor playing him, because I knew them from when they were about two and a half. I've kept in touch with them and seen them grow up.

"Liam has worked more than Connor ? he's done The Bay and Last Tango in Halifax. He's brilliant and he's an extraordinary young actor. It's a real thrill for me because I've watched them grow up."

Antony also discussed the longer-term plans for the storyline, although show bosses are currently keeping quiet about the reasons why Dylan later moves to the Street full-time.

He said: "Liam has done his little stint now. We'll see this little bit, then he's going to come back, then he's going to go away again, and then he's going to come back full-time. We'll see it in stages, as Sean gets used to Dylan being around.

"I can't wait for it, as it gives me a totally different dynamic. I'm hoping we're going to become a little duo and it is completely unique.

"There are not many people in the show who get a storyline where their child comes back. A lot of the time we play the dynamic of someone getting to know a child they didn't know existed, but Sean has always known about Dylan, we just haven't seen them together on screen for years. I'm really looking forward to it."
