Channel 4’s Countdown is to continue with a new presenter, according to reports.

The show's future was brought into question last month after long-standing host Richard Whiteley died after heart surgery

"We are going to carry on, probably with one presenter," co-host Carol Vorderman told the PA. "It was originally suggested that the show would be fronted by a variety of guest presenters."

She continued: “The switchboard at Channel 4 has been inundated over the last few weeks we have been off air asking when Countdown is coming back. By and large, 95% of our viewers have said they do want it to come back.

"It is still all quite sensitive and we are not even trying new people until September. It will be very odd for me. Obviously the person I want to do the show with is Richard."

I was thinking that Debs - Countdown was Richard Whitely. Countdown without him is like Trinny without Susannah (couldn't think of another partnership for a min - oh heres one, Miss Piggy without Kermit) It won't seem right!

No, it will definitely not be the same without Richard. I personally think it's a bit out of order, that C4 are looking for someone to take overe asap, and Richard has only been gone a couple of weeks.

I think its in quite poor taste really - everyone knows that no-one is indispensible to a certain degree, but Richard Whiteley was Countdown - he brought the show together, he gave it a sense of humour. I think it should end on a high note in memory of him. These things never really work or carry on for very long after the departure of the presenter and in these circumstances, I think its best not to even try!
