Derek has tried to reassure Craig that the strength of his feelings for Anthony is merely a result of being incarcerated.
The impromptu counselling session came in the middle of last night’s party. “It’s not fair, is it?” Craig asked as they sat at the dining table. “I can’t deal with it.”
“I think it’s because you’re in this environment,” Derek suggested. “When you’re out of it, in London, and you see all the beauties, all the heavenly things available and takeable..”
“You know when there’s something about somebody?” Craig continued while staring across at Anthony, who was changing in the bedroom.
“Yeah, but it’s only because of this enclosed environment,” Derek replied.
“I think I’ll adore them (him) all my life,” Craig added. “I love their personality, I adore their values, their way of life. Derek, it’s so compatible it’s not even a joke. And it’s not fair.”
To draw comparison, Derek spoke of being “in love” when he was the same age as Craig. “I was very lucky,” he recalled.
“I think I do [love him],” Craig declared. “In fact I know I do.”
