View Full Version : cabbage soup diet
This easy-to-follow plan is designed to jump-start your diet and cause you to lose weight quickly.
Eat as much cabbage soup as you desire for seven days and lose 10 to 15 pounds (around one stone). The recipe varies slightly, but basically includes a variety of low-calorie vegetables, such as cabbage, onions and tomatoes flavoured with bouillon, onion soup mix and tomato juice. Each day of the seven-day programme has specific foods that must be eaten, including potatoes, fruit juice, vegetables, and on one day, beef.
Pros
You'll lose weight quickly and can eat as much as you want of the prescribed foods.
Cons
Many people who have tried this diet report feeling light-headed and weak, and notice a decrease in their ability to concentrate.
The diet is too low in complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals to stay on for an extended period of time.
Duration
One week.
Checklist
Restaurants: It will be tough to find a place that serves that much cabbage.
Alcohol: No.
Caffeine: You’re encouraged to drink coffee or tea along with the soup.
Need to buy special foods: Yes - more cabbage than you can imagine.
Family friendly: No.
OK for vegetarians: Cabbage soup is vegetarian, but on some days you are encouraged to eat 10 to 20 ounces of beef.
it's supposed to make you very "windy" as well!

It does sound horrid.
At least its only for a week, but it wouldn't work in the long term. If you wanted to lose weight quickly for an occasion it would be OK, but if you want to lose weight permenently then i dont see how that would be any good

Yeap, but surely you would be windy and it would smell bad, lol!
maybe the idea is that you lose your appetite alltogether...

I would give up after a day.
You would have to have real will power, and have lost your sense of smell!!!!!
Dr. Tangliss

Lol! Then I should have done it when I had really bad hayfever!
you'd have to go into hiding or something so no one else can smell it either!
Dr. Tangliss

I would hide on a hot Island, lol!
So the smell would evaporate

Oh yes, brilliant idea.
There is no way i could do this
It sounds way to samey everyday. Not a lot of variety. Not my cup of Tea, but i would be interested to see the results so i can see if it does actually work
It would work in theory cause Cabbage has no fat or sugar in it, but my god what an horrid way to loose weight.

You would be on the toilet all the time too!
Surely there are easier ways of losing weight then going through this

There are loads of other alternatives, like the soup and steak diet. You eat veg soup day one, day two you have the soup and a jacket potato, day three soup and as much steak as you want, day four steak and veg as much as you want.... Something like that anyway.
Sounds... lovely as well

i tryed the cabbage diet last year, the soup is alright but not when you have to eat it all the time! i think i lasted 3 days and i lost around 7 pounds it does work but its too hard to try and stick too, it didnt help that the girls in work were meant to start it with me and on the Monday morning in i pop with my cabbage soup and the 2 girls sitting there with scrambled egg and toast, a well i still did it for the 3 days - its a good diet if you want to loose weight quickly :)

Do it make you go to the loo more?
I've heard it does, and apparently it certainly makes you **coughs** expel air more!!! (polite aren't I :rotfl: ) Its only supposed to be good for crash dieting though, not long term so I wouldn't personally try it. Though I might if I didn't have a hubby and family to think about!! :rotfl:

Is it expensive?
I agree there PLS - I used that one when I wanted to lose for my wedding - it worked a treat and isn't a crash diet either.

I can imagine it better healther too. With crash diets, the weight comes off quickly, but tends to pile on quickly too.

Slimming world? Is it the same a Weight Watchers?
No nothing like points or anything like that. You have green days and red days. Its working out really well for me there's no limit to what you can eat as long as you stick to the colour you started with that day.
