how can we encourage more members to post?
despite having over 5000 members :cheer:
there is only a core of you who post here on a regular basis
my challenge to you is to come up with bright and inspired ideas we can use to encourage people to post.........over to you

ooo that's an interesting challenge - you have to remember that there will always be users who just want to read what's been posted and remain anonymous.
I think that the first post is the hardest... maybe some kind of incentive to post. Once people get into posting and voicing their opinion then they are more likely to continue.
Before putting too much effort in though, maybe Ghostrider could email out a survey to try and understand why people who don't post choose not to. then you'll have a better understanding of how you can tackle the problem.
(you can tell i work in marketing can't you!!)
I agree - I didn't post for the first 2 months of being a member - although once I started I couldn't stop. The only thing is the repeated threads that happen sometimes. However, competitions and other incentives are good ones. Like already suggested, exclusive benefits to posters of a certain number (although they do to some extent already exist).

I posted form day 1 and that day 1 (night 1 shall I say :p) was then BBC closed at 9pm!! I thought Id never get used to posting (controls) and the layout of finding things and who Im talking too. But then everday even though I didn't know what's going on I still came on because I likes being part of the board and things got easier to use shall I say!!
Im loving the idea of WQ's please post more e-mail!! Maybe if they need to continue thier registration from the same IP address they should only be allowed to stay if they post 500 posts in 3 months. Or is that a bit harsh...
I also like the idea of the survey, you will find out alot with survey's!!
It took me ages to get to 500, i only got there at the beginning of this month! The survey thing would be a good idea as well though.
You could have exclusive areas, e.g. one bit for under 500 posters, another for between 500 and 1000, one for between 1000 and 2000 and then one for everyone else. Then all the new people have a bit to start of posting, where they are not so "intimidated" by older posters
I agree with you Abi - I know initially I felt quite worried about joining in a conversation!! It takes time to get over that feeling of almost panic about posting something, cause you do get concerned that someone may not agree and get funny, but that has never happened here (cause you are all lovely :wub: ), but I think if you have ever looked any other forums (which I am sure a lot of us have) it does seem to get a bit heated sometimes. Now though, I know that we are all a really nice friendly bunch of guys so have no probs with posting!!

put an even wider thing on here to discuss, eg, dramas because although it is primerily a soap board, make it appeal to a wider range of people. also, you could get rid of older threads which have been closed/ not used for a while or put them in a special archive to make it easier to navigate and make it easier to find the posts you are wanting.
what i also do on my boards are make them feel welcome, i have pm for everyone, so i pm them and introduce them that way.
or you could maybe let people PM Mods ETC and not everyone, then they can answer questions, make them feel welcome ETC

you should put things you can do at the lower posts to as when you need 500 posts for a banner you kinda get bored and don't post
I think the idea is that you get posting to be able to get hte extra stuff. You can use teh shoutbox now though
Really its an incentive to post, as the more you post the more things you get to do.

In a day, you can easily post between 50 and 100 if you get involved in threads, so it doesn't take that long for your posts to add up. I've posted 1000 in 4 weeks :D

i think that maybe some people dont join in when they become a member as everyone already knows each other and they feel like a bit of an outsider. when i joined the bbc boards i didnt really post as everyone else had been on there ages but i joined here straight away so i didnt have that problem. maybe there could be some thing where new members are paired up with another new member from that day or with an older member so they can easily make one friend first and then it might not be as daunting (sp?)
(that suggestion was actually quite stupid, i dont think it made much sense!)

there might be various reasons people don't post as much - could be anything from just having occasional access to the board or (like me) having to deal with some horrible things in real life and not having the chance to come on like I used to.
If you want an honest opinion though, and I hope no-one takes offence as its really not intended that way, but a lot of the threads were by and for the younger members but I do know that if some of the older members started other threads it would even it out but those were my reasons (mainly a bad time in the real world though).

The petz thing is a dead good way of getting people to post but I think it should be enabled for all users. Once they have a pet they will have to post to feed it anyway.
even if they don't care about it and created it on a whim? they might not know how to care for it

maybe say 50 to get some priviledges because by 50, you've shown commitment and that you want to stay
50 is quite a good number, or maybe more things at 150
150 can be hard to reach, if you only come on here for one thing eg, eastenders forum etc
