Anthony was sitting alone in the garden and Derek came out to console him.
Derek took the opportunity to offer some words of advice about Craig and also to tell Anthony how his own feelings towards him had changed.
"He's only 20 years old and Craig's at that stage where he's discovering a lot about himself," the elder Housemate pointed out. "He sees in you somebody he can admire and this appeal is great in the absence of Saskia and Maxwell."
"I've never met anyone like Craig," Anthony admitted. "It's just like, I don't have girls as friends because sex always gets in the way."
Derek said: "You're handsome and somebody that is easily admired by men and women - he's young so that admiration he has for you will pass."
Then the topic turned to how Derek feels about Anthony. Previously, Derek and Anthony did not get on and the Tory was the only person that Anthony openly did not like. But things have changed and Anthony wanted to know if he was being genuine about it.
Derek admitted that he wasn't a fan of the Geordie in the past and it was Anthony's vanity that he disliked: "I've never met a straight bloke who's so vain...I've not met a homosexual bloke who was like that before."
Derek also admitted that his association with Maxwell and Saskia may have tainted his view: "It's wrong to judge people by the company they keep, but in week five I felt like I was in the bombing of Iraq, it's how the House felt."
Now it seems, Derek is happy to play the father-figure role to Anthony and Craig.
