View Full Version : Working Tax Credit
Im really annoyed, i applied for it when my partner started work, theyve been fine paying me one bit of it but the other part which is supposed to be in with his pay hasnt been payed to us once. Hes owed 6 weeks worth now. plus somehow they had the idea that i was earning 190k a year!! Like id be applying to them if i did. Sorry had to get that off my chest :wall:
they are useless we got quite a bit for the first year and we checked wiith them that it was right coz it seemed so much then when we had to reapply the nfollowing year we found they had paid us far too much and we had to re pay it out of this years allowance!
luckily they have not messed mine up.......yet!!! (touch wood)
but they have meesed some of my friends payments up they just stopped paying them!!
the only thing they have sort of done to me is enter one of my kids twice so they thought i had twins both called niamh!!!!
They payed me a amount yesterday and now i have to pay them it back because of their error in the 1st place. The thing that i think is beyond belief is that they think my annual income is 190k a year!! Thats 10 times my acctual one, cant understand how they can get it so wrong.

They didn't pay me any wtc or Child tax credit for 3 months.. from Dec to march.. then I noticed that the money wasnt going into my account and that it wasnt going into my pay. (it never has and I started work in Oct) Anyway they said they owe in excess of £1000. I have called and called etc etc etc and keep getting fobbed off. Now been waiting 6 months. They said it is a techincal error and will send me a cheque as soon as sorted but will not confirm in writing what i am to get....they said as soon as the system is sorted out i will get the money and I asked how long.. they couldnt put a timescale on it and I said 'another 6 months?' and the operative said.. 'Oh I hope not'
What angers me totally is when the operators say 'I know how you feel' or 'I can understand how you feel' NO THEY DON'T and NO THEY CAN'T!!! That is patronising.. most of them have not got a clue how it feels to have a landlord breathing down your neck for 3 months of unpaid rent due to their mistake... most of them do not have a clue how a single parent is to survive when their money is constantly mixed up.
Also there is NEVER anyone higher to speak to... no line managers.. no other tel niumber... just send your complaint in writing they say..... YEAH LIKE I WILL GET A REPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!!!!!!
I have spent so much money on phone calls and visits to my office and believe these should ALL be refunded... but will they heck as like.
Meanwhile the tax office is earning interest on the money that is owed me... 6 months of interest so far.
That gives me a lot of hope :/ i had to miss my rent last month cos i couldnt pay it and my other bills, food shopping etc. landlords been fine bout it so far tho.
I know what u mean about the ppl on the helpline tho, they havent got a clue most of the time what their doing. and they keep talking about a head office which im sure doesnt exist because they wont let me phone it to find out whats happened to my money.
They should have kept the old family credit system, it worked a lot better.
ive only recently had my renewal form in but im dreading filling it because they are bound to have mucked it up again and they will probably leave us with nothing! my other half off sick at the mo so that will not be a good situation to be in!
my other half was off sick for most of last year so we have had to put off him moving in with me and the kids as we would loose so much money!! stupid is'nt it!! we just want to live together as a family!!
because my partner changed jobs 3 weeks ago they cant seem to understand that either, takes about 10 mins everytime i phone to get them to understand the situation. They keep saying im checking the screen, if they were checking the damn screen it would/should all be there!! I think Gordon Brown has even admitted this system is a huge mistake.

(Willow I love the avater! *drools* Sorry, I'll go back into my hole now!)
And another annoying thing is, is if you submit a VAT form (or the like) late they fine you!!!
i know it mad the things you have to do to make sure you have enough money to libve on! my mate split from her partner last year and she is on income support. her other half gives her money for their son every week but she had £30 quid stopped oout of her money the other week because she refused to give them his details so they could go to the csa! so she had to struggle for weeks before they finally gave it back!
My hubbie off sick as he has a bad hip. we getting on surprisingly fine considering the money we get but if they stop any more of out tax credits it will be a struggle!
it is pretty tasty!!! i might go back to my other one though!!! i have found loads of buffy and angel ones!!!
sorry totally off topic!!!

its amd when my other half was off sick i went on the website to see how much we would get if we claimed as a family and you guessed it with an extra person we got less!!! and thats me going out to work and my other half staying at home with the baby!!!
Didnt know u could go on the website and get a calculation. might have a look see how much much he could have instead of the one they worked out with the unbelievable £190,000 earnings they came up with. I wonder if they should have to give me that money  cos if they think im earning it surely they should give it to me :D
Its a complete waste of time.
My friend has worked out she would be better off on income support not working, than working part time which she wants to do as she's on her own with two kids and likes the social side, she would get not housing benefit and her sons free perscriptions stopped etc (he has cronic ashtma). All she wants to do is go out to work part time so she has some adult company!! Her husband who she left (for reasons I wont go into, but its bad) has quit his job on perpose so he doesnt have to pay for child support, but she knows he's working for cash. She has a perfectly good house but she cant move back into cause her husband is "apparently" living there (he's not, the house is empty) so she is living in rented accomodation with a toilet which isnt working with two kids under the age of 4.
Sorry its not really on topic, but kind of relevent.
It just makes me sick!!!!!!
yep if you go on the site you can get a estimate you have to enter all of your details
i would be about £20 worse off on income support and i would be able to stay at home with my daughter and get all my rent paid!! but i enjoy going to work i only go part time and its true i love the adult company!!! i stuill get free prescriptions and eyes tests and dentists, also i still get a bit of help with my rent and council tax
Also another friend of mine does not get sickness benefit but she ison Kidney dialysis, three times a week, and has two kids one is 7 the other is 1. I cant work that out either. But apparently kidney failure is not accounted for in sickness/imcapacity benefit. Luckily she has a ver supportive boyf who works all hours to make ends meet

Thats good, do you think it could vary from area to area?

quite possibly, it might also depend how many hours she works and the total income,
She only works max 10 hours a week and its not a great deal of money, and her husband has avoided paying any maintane for the two kids, it may be the fact that she owns a house. But she cant live in it!!
in a way i think its wrong that you sort of get punished for trying to work!! not that i am knocking people on benefits i was on them for just over 5 years. but you do loose at lot and don't really gain much, you loose free school meals, school uniform allowance, and maternity payment (£500!!!)

thats awful i work 20 hours a week!!! can't she sell the house?
She could do but its jointly owned, and her husband wants her back so he's resorted to making life really difficult for her as regards surviving on her own (hes a total ....), and wont sell the house and she would have to take him to court to get an order for him to sell it.

It is wrong, if people are able/willing to work they should give them as much help as possible to do it.
the best thing she could do is go to the cab they are fab and could really help her

yep!! someone i know had a baby around the same time as me and is on income support and i got the £500 maternity payment, she used it to pay off her credit card! and bought her baby a pushchair at a car boot for £35! it just makes me angry that i do try really hard and go to work for a pittance of a wage and get not a lot of help, as i said earler i am only about £20 a week better off!!
she's been!!! the one good thing is she's getting legal aid for a divorce so she should get some help financially from her soon to be ex husband, or at least the house sold so she has some money. But even though the police have been called to several domestic incidents with her husband she still has to attend remediation sessions to obtain legal aid.

That makes no sense what so ever!!! thats a four packets of fags a week!! or a take away. It seams the system has been devised by people who have never been in the situation to need financial help from the state.
i really feel for her, its awful. at least she is getting legal aid.
i presume that means she can't go on the council list as she is still married and has property.

Yep I think where we live they do it on a points system and she has minimum amount of points.
all me and my boyfriend want to do is live together, but we literally can't afford it!!!
Thats madness!!!
And they wonder why people claim benefits and work for cash!

saying that i am waiting for a tranfer to a 3 bed house( i have a boy age 9yrs and a girl age 16 months) and i am 8th on the list and have been told i could be waiting about 3 years!!! and i have enough pionts to move tomorrow!!!
Thats madness!!!
And they wonder why people claim benefits and work for cash!
and when they catch you they grab it all back!! trust me i got caught about 8 years ago!! and that was earning an extra £25 - £45 per week to buy my son a few extras!! i know it was wrong at the time and i will never do it again!!
I know its not right, but the system seriously needs revising so the people that need to claim income support and the people that want to work can work and be better off.
they need to make it easier to go to work and harder to stay on benefits
they need to make it easier to go to work and harder to stay on benefits
Eactly!!! but the support needs to be there when you need it, if only for a temp basis.
Actually the benifit system was originally set up as a temporary measure to support soilders comming back from war (not sure if it was WW1 or WW11) who had been so badly injured they could not go back to their old jobs, and was supposed to be phased our over time.
my sister was lucky last week, she has it go in to her post office account, anyway she went in to collect her child ben and tax credit and you always get a reciept so she looked at it and it said £1500 on it,she nearly fainted, wondering where it had all come from and surely they had made a mistake so she phoned them up and they said thay they were ever so sorry but they wernt paying her enough last year and this is what she was owed!
lucky cow!
