Emmerdale fans have finally been introduced to Nate Robinson's mum Cara.

Cara, played by Carryl Thomas, made her first appearance in Thursday night's double bill (January 9) after a shock twist of fate saw her run over Moira Dingle.

Moira (Natalie J Robb) is currently on a downward spiral and stumbled out into the road while drunk, leading to a collision with Cara's vehicle.

After Moira was left unconscious in a ditch, Cara ensured that she got the help she needed by taking her to hospital.

At first, it seemed that this no-nonsense new arrival was just a concerned driver. However, when Nate (Jurell Carter) arrived at the hospital to check on Moira, the truth about Cara's identity was revealed.

When Cara heard the details of Nate's recent behaviour, she insisted on taking him back home, although he replied that he was going nowhere and planned to carry on building his new business at Wylie's Farm.

Cain (Jeff Hordley) also had a brief interaction with Cara when he heard about her shock arrival and turned up at the hospital too.

Meanwhile, Moira hoped that the arrival of Cara would lead to Nate's departure from the village – still wanting him out of the way after the role he played in destroying her marriage.

After reconciling with her son Matty at the hospital, Moira told him: "I'm glad [Cara's] got something about her. Hopefully she'll grab Nate by the scruff of the neck and drag him back home where he belongs.

"I mean it, Matty. Cain and me don't stand a chance with him around. He's got to go."

Carryl Thomas previously played the role of Kerry Boulter in Channel 5 soap Family Affairs. Her other credits include parts in The Sarah Jane Adventures and Holby City.
