Emmerdale is set to air some stirring scenes next week when Arthur Thomas is rocked by sad news.

The truth about Arthur (Alfie Clarke) bullying Archie (Kai Assi) will come to light after his family learns that Sandy Thomas has died. The character will be killed off screen, following cast member Freddie Jones's death last year.

Episodes airing next week will see Doug (Duncan Preston) trying to console Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy), when she receives a call informing her of Sandy's death.

When Laurel does pluck up the strength to share the sad news with the kids, Arthur reacts badly as he abruptly storms out of the house.

It will be Jimmy King (Nick Miles) who eventually finds Arthur at the cemetery at Ashley's graveside, where the boy admits that he feels as if God is punishing him.

Arthur will later even admit his bullying to Laurel, leaving her conflicted over what to do. Laurel does eventually decide to text Jimmy to come over, since Arthur let him take the blame for hurting Archie.

As they wait for Jimmy to arrive so they can tell him the truth, Laurel and Arthur are shocked when Jai (Chris Bisson) returns home much earlier than scheduled from rehab.

Will they share Arthur's confession with Jai at this sensitive time, and what will Jimmy say when he learns the truth about Archie?

Emmerdale has hinted that Arthur Thomas and his schoolmate Marshall could have a romantic chemistry after all.

Arthur first revealed his feelings for Marshall earlier this month when there seemed to be an attraction between them, but he was soon heartbroken to discover that Marshall had teamed up with two school bullies to play a homophobic prank on him.

In next week's scenes, Arthur considers giving Marshall another chance when he takes steps to redeem himself.

Marshall stands up for Arthur in front of a bully. Arthur is pleased that Marshall is genuinely on his side this time ? and it's not long before they share a moment together.

Meanwhile, Arthur is planning to host a school assembly on LGBTQ+ history as part of his attempts to create a more inclusive culture.

Arthur has already won respect and admiration from most of his schoolmates after recording an inspiring online message in response to Marshall's prank a few weeks ago.

Sadly, Arthur's mum Laurel is forced to break the news that his assembly has been mysteriously cancelled.

When Laurel makes a call to investigate, she discovers that it's because one parent complained.

Marshall comes to check on Arthur after the disappointing news about the assembly.

Feeling down after his tough week, Arthur warns Marshall that if he's not being honest, he needs to leave.

Marshall drops his usual bravado and almost shares a kiss with Arthur, but the moment is interrupted when Marshall's dad phones him.

Arthur is disappointed as Marshall panics and rushes off. Is there any future for them?

Emmerdale teen Arthur Thomas enjoys a secret date next week.

Arthur welcomes newcomer Lewis into Mulberry Cottage, finally ready to move on from his heartbreak over Marshall Hamston.

The scenes form part of Arthur's new feud with his stepdad Jai Sharma.

Since returning to the village following his extended trip to Australia, Arthur hasn't been afraid to stand up to Jai.

Arthur's mum Laurel has faced a miserable time thanks to Jai's scheming in the wake of their split, although Arthur's interventions have helped to keep Jai in line.

Next week, Jai receives some friendly advice from local vicar Charles Anderson, who suggests that he should do whatever it takes to maintain a positive relationship with Arthur.

Jai realises that it won't be easy when stubborn Arthur continues to ignore him.

The following day, Arthur arranges a date with Lewis and they spend time together at Mulberry Cottage.

The lads are nervous as they drink beer together, with both unsure over what to do next.

Jai is curious when he spots Arthur and Lewis secretly disposing of their beer cans together. Lewis then heads off.

When Arthur notices Jai staring, he worries that his stepdad might tell Laurel about his date. Will Jai interfere, or see this as his chance to score some points with Arthur again?

Arthur's previous romance storyline saw him fall for his schoolmate Marshall. He and Laurel helped Marshall to escape his homophobic father Colin.

However, in July last year, Marshall suggested that it was time to split from Arthur following a string of rows between them. Marshall then went off to live with his auntie.

Emmerdale airs Arthur's new scenes on Friday, September 20.
