Wednesday 3 August 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM
This episode focuses on Sam Nixon and Ramani Jayasundera’s hunt for Manisha Devi’s murderer.
Nurse Manisha Devi is still missing - Brian Spencer (Ian Gain) and serial rapist Peter Baxter (Hywel Bennett) are the prime suspects. Although there is substantial evidence against Baxter, DS Samantha Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) and Acting DI Ramani Da Costa (Thusitha Jayasundera) are forced to release him on bail. The stakes are raised when Manisha’s burnt body is found by Sergeant Dale Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) and her colleague Rebecca Sheppard goes missing.
Ramani feels the pressure as acting Detective Inspector when a photograph of Manisha is found on Baxter’s computer - it looks as though they have released the wrong man.
After a frantic search, Baxter is brought in again and insists he is innocent, claiming Manisha’s appearance in his photographs is purely coincidence. He says he was actually taking photographs of his original rape victim in order to leave her his inheritance by way of an apology.
As the investigation draws together, a witness comes forward claiming to have seen Manisha getting into a taxi. Sam calls Ramani to tell her they have another suspect – taxi driver David Russo (Nick Court), only to find that Ramani is already in his cab. Has she walked straight into the clutches of a murderer?
Thursday 4 August 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM
The race is on to find Acting DI Ramani Da Costa (Thusitha Jayasundera) and David Russo (Nick Court). Russo is prime suspect for murdering Manisha Devi and has now kidnapped Ramani. She eventually manages to switch her mobile on and DS Samantha Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) and DC Zain Nadir (TJ Ramani) arrive just in time to save her.
Cold and calculated, Sam is certain Russo is their man, but when Zain takes a sample of saliva and the DNA doesn’t match that found near Manisha’s body, DI Morrell (Tanya Franks) decides to bail him. Sam decides the only person to help them profile Russo and find missing nurse Rebecca Sheppard is to talk to the notorious Peter Baxter (Hywel Bennett). With Baxter’s help, the missing nurse is traced to a disused building, but she is barely alive.
Having told Baxter that his former victim Ruth (Amelda Brown) doesn’t want his inheritance, Sam gets an emergency call to Ruth’s house hearing that Baxter is there and Ruth has brutally lashed out at him with a knife. Will the reformed rapist be killed by his former victim or can Sam save him in time?
Ramani and Sam discover that Russo has cancer and has recently had a blood transfusion. They need to do the DNA test again. Ramani and Zain manage to track Russo who is dousing himself in petrol and he is finally arrested.
Also, Sergeant June Ackland (Trudie Goodwin) and PC Roger Valentine (John Bowler) are called to an arson incident where thirteen-year-old Ross Trescott (Jack O’Connell) is the culprit. They give chase and decide to separate while Roger leaves to help CID find Russo. June catches up with Ross who violently punches her to the floor leaving her dazed and vulnerable.
Later on, June calls in to report a rape and when asked the name of the victim, she shakily replies: "me"
