Wednesday 3 August 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM

This episode focuses on Sam Nixon and Ramani Jayasundera’s hunt for Manisha Devi’s murderer.

Nurse Manisha Devi is still missing - Brian Spencer (Ian Gain) and serial rapist Peter Baxter (Hywel Bennett) are the prime suspects. Although there is substantial evidence against Baxter, DS Samantha Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) and Acting DI Ramani Da Costa (Thusitha Jayasundera) are forced to release him on bail. The stakes are raised when Manisha’s burnt body is found by Sergeant Dale Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) and her colleague Rebecca Sheppard goes missing.

Ramani feels the pressure as acting Detective Inspector when a photograph of Manisha is found on Baxter’s computer - it looks as though they have released the wrong man.

After a frantic search, Baxter is brought in again and insists he is innocent, claiming Manisha’s appearance in his photographs is purely coincidence. He says he was actually taking photographs of his original rape victim in order to leave her his inheritance by way of an apology.

As the investigation draws together, a witness comes forward claiming to have seen Manisha getting into a taxi. Sam calls Ramani to tell her they have another suspect – taxi driver David Russo (Nick Court), only to find that Ramani is already in his cab. Has she walked straight into the clutches of a murderer?

Thursday 4 August 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM

The race is on to find Acting DI Ramani Da Costa (Thusitha Jayasundera) and David Russo (Nick Court). Russo is prime suspect for murdering Manisha Devi and has now kidnapped Ramani. She eventually manages to switch her mobile on and DS Samantha Nixon (Lisa Maxwell) and DC Zain Nadir (TJ Ramani) arrive just in time to save her.

Cold and calculated, Sam is certain Russo is their man, but when Zain takes a sample of saliva and the DNA doesn’t match that found near Manisha’s body, DI Morrell (Tanya Franks) decides to bail him. Sam decides the only person to help them profile Russo and find missing nurse Rebecca Sheppard is to talk to the notorious Peter Baxter (Hywel Bennett). With Baxter’s help, the missing nurse is traced to a disused building, but she is barely alive.

Having told Baxter that his former victim Ruth (Amelda Brown) doesn’t want his inheritance, Sam gets an emergency call to Ruth’s house hearing that Baxter is there and Ruth has brutally lashed out at him with a knife. Will the reformed rapist be killed by his former victim or can Sam save him in time?

Ramani and Sam discover that Russo has cancer and has recently had a blood transfusion. They need to do the DNA test again. Ramani and Zain manage to track Russo who is dousing himself in petrol and he is finally arrested.

Also, Sergeant June Ackland (Trudie Goodwin) and PC Roger Valentine (John Bowler) are called to an arson incident where thirteen-year-old Ross Trescott (Jack O’Connell) is the culprit. They give chase and decide to separate while Roger leaves to help CID find Russo. June catches up with Ross who violently punches her to the floor leaving her dazed and vulnerable.

Later on, June calls in to report a rape and when asked the name of the victim, she shakily replies: "me"

Tori

it is not very inflencing for other people of her age, it give the impression you will always be near danger if you walk out of your house

Tori

isn't it just??

When they do rape storylines on tv they give out the wrong impressiob by letting the accused be not guilty, so if people have been raped in real life they feel there is nothing they can do about it which is not very good

Tori
19-07-2005, 17:48
yeah, thats not good, i think it's such a touchy subject that perhaps the storyline shouldn't be included at all. you might not think so but i do

From the nature of the guides and the way the stories appear to be this could be the mark of the new POST MARQUESS era The Bill.

The format certainly seems different from that of late.

Also some very strong characters for these two eps which is always pleasing.

Junes rape though seems like a Marquess type storyline though. However if she or the rapist get shot or blown up then we will know for certain its one of his

This would mean that June has been raped twice in her life first one produced that Ghastly Gabriel, I just hope that the do not protray it as the thirteen year old boy who done it to her.

The first rape did not produce Ghastley Gabriel. Gabriel is a really nice guy. David Kent played by Todd Carty  is only pretending to be Gabriel because he is jealous of him

pc kent is david.

even though june is a strong actor, i don't think you can pull this off as easily

The whole point is that it IS the 13 year old that is the attacker.

It sounds like this will be an 'after the event' story... ie what happens after the assault which is definitely the best way to handle it. Apart from the fact that it is pre-watershed so they have to be careful what they show.

I would love TB to do an occasional later night ep now and again. This would allow for grittier storylines to play out....and more opps for the actors to really go for it...and, like most humans, swear a little.

It is not very good that they say a 13 year old is the attacker because it is sort of saying that teenages are scum

Sadly what it is saying is that there is a culture now where some people of a very young age are capable of such atrocities.

Let me quote you this:

Taken from the news in the past week:

A boy of 5 has had his testicle removed after being kicked by a 7 year old.
A 13 year old boy was tied to a tree and set on fire by a gang of 8 boys in a 'happy slap' attack
a 14 year old has been charged with murder after a 16 year old was stabbed to death
an 18 year old has been charged with the murder of a 10 year old girl
a 17 year old has been charged with an unprovoked assault on a transsexual
an 11 year old boy was suspended from school for selling porn DVDs
a 12 year old girl has admitted trying to hang a 5 year old boy from a tree

1 in 3 primary school aged children have smoked a cigarette

The majority of youngsters in this country are still decent and law-abiding but it's becoming increasingly difficult to hold on to that thought.

TAKEN FROM YESTERDAYS SUN NEWSPAPER

In the past 6 months we have also heard reported cases of assaults on schoolteachers... including several sexual assaults.....Also there has been reports of 'happy slapping' sexual assaults by children against children.

I believe The Bill is being entirely appropriate showing that a 13 year old is totally capable of such an assault as rape of an officer. It is not saying ALL teenagers are like this... but it is saying that IT HAPPENS.

Violent crime against teenagers and young people has been tackled by TB on many many occasions. There was one just recently with the internet paedophile. However, serious crimes by young people on adults has not really been tackled before. This just provides a balance between the fact that perpetraitors can be any age and victims can be any age.
