Soap favourite Kim Tate will welcome her son James back to Emmerdale for the first time in 20 years.

Since recently arriving back in the village – following a 10-year absence – Kim has been up to her old cunning ways, which have seen her attempt to blackmail Cain Dingle and hire an assassin to kill Joe Tate.

So does this mean she has grand plans for James, too?

According to The Sun, Kim's son will be tricked into coming back to the village after she buys into the local veterinary hospital. Here, she'll force them to offer James a job as he's a vet himself.

James was last seen on the soap in 1999 as just a toddler, but now actor Alexander Lincoln is stepping up to fill his shoes in his first major TV role.

Kim will reportedly show a different side to her personality when James arrives on the scene, but as the episodes unfold, her true colours float to the surface once again.

Emmerdale boss Jane Hudson has teased that there's yet another surprise twist in the Belle Dingle and Jamie Tate affair story on the way.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, the soap's executive producer revealed that "part one" of Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Jamie's (Alexander Lincoln) relationship saga "will be coming to a head very soon" and things are going to be far from simple for the pair.

"There will be a twist in there and then it gets worse for Belle for quite some time," she said. "There's a lot more to come in that story, a lot more. Not all is as it seems."

Belle is already facing plenty of trouble this week as she clashes with members of her angry family, who are finding it difficult to accept Belle and Jamie's relationship.

Things are only getting more difficult for the couple as Jamie's estranged wife Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) returns after taking some time out from the Dales and is shocked to discover how quickly Jamie has moved on with Belle, who he was having an affair with while married to Andrea.

With Jamie also trying to keep his involvement in Moira Dingle's (Natalie J Robb) hit and run under wraps ? and with both Belle and Andrea aware of his secret ? things have certainly got off to a very complicated start for Belle and Jamie.

Jane also discussed the added difficulties of filming intimate scenes between actors when social distancing between cast members is essential and revealed that the production team is "testing all the time" to find better ways of doing things.

"We're working with stunt teams to see what we can and can't do," she said. "We're looking at what other people are doing as well. I'd like to think the strength of our storytelling is what the viewers like, and if we can add additional stuff like kissing and hugging then we will do.

"But we won?t do it if it compromises anyone's safety. Let's face it, we're not really seeing anyone kissing in the real world either, are we? There's no public displays of affection which I'm quite happy with as a single person! I think the audience are ok with it. When we can kiss again we'll have kissing."
