I'm useless with things like this. I don't like the word career because I might not want to be doing one thing for the rest of my life but at the moment I'm off to do a Law degree. So something legal, I haven't quite decided yet!
I am 40, and since Uni I have been a civil servant, an Auditor and a University Administrator. Nothing is set in stone whatever you decide to do, but you can still have a progressive career.
Well surprise surprise I actually like my job despite all this talk of running off with millionaires lol and here's why, I help people in my job as a home carer and it's a very responsible job looking after others. I love it though and it gives me pleasure. I've not worked properly for a while mainly because I've been signed off on sick but yes I probably will be going back infact I know I've got some work next month - August!
I do odd bits now and again like this morning I took an old ladys benefit form to the social security office to have it stamped. I become very fond of the clients and get to know them. It may seem like a very hard job to do when you have to bath them etc and deal with the more unsavoury ones but these people generally are old and a lot have problems so you have to make a lot of exceptions. A lot of stuff goes on that a lot of us carers don't report to the social services. There's one man who'll hit you if you invade his personal body space but because he has problems you deal with it without all the hysteria. I know you'd probably expect me "Walford Queen" to turn round and hit him back but that's not something I would do in that situation atall...You just have to skirt round him as best as you can make his breakfast and clean up a little bit. Underneath I am a caring person who wants to look after these people and make them comfortable. We did go to this lady who died last year due to a cancer related illness and she was disabled, and she wasn't very very old, she was only in her forties and she was on her own her husband wasn't around. And ever since then we've still been going to her house to clean it and cook the tea for her kids so it's a very nice rewarding job knowing that you can still help others and help these children. They may be in their teens and they may make a tip of the house but it's something you overlook.
It's a very nice job and I'm extremely proud of it.
So would I change my career track?
That's a hard question. I must seem like somebody who gets bored easily with this kind of thing but nah despite all that talk of Spain and me millionaire, I'm here for the long haul. That's just a dream really but maybe one day hey :p
I'm absolutely fine with my current path of career. I wouldn't say it's really a proper career. I've never really thought of it like that just the job I do, the job I got. I originally worked in the home care office so I was taking an entirely different route originally!
Well i'm just finishing year 10 at school so its not entirely important that i know what i want to do. Having seen my parents have jobs in one part fo the media i've always been into that sort of thing. My favourite subjects are English, geography and ICT so naturally journilism would be an obvious choice, but i'm not interily certain that i want to work in such a contrivoual place.
I've always thought that doing somehting to do with the law would be interesting, but i know i wont be able to afford the uni costs for that amount of time

English was my favourite subject at school. Maths and Science were a big no, no. Anything that didn't tax my brain too much was on the "yes" list!!! LOL.
I'm not too bad with a computer but we didn't have ICT. I really got to grips with computers when I went to a learning centre at the library.
yeah i agree, anything faintly to do with maths or science just goes straight over me!
I cannot be doing with maths. I've never understood why they don't leave it basic. You just don't need the knowledge of algebra etc...
I get the algebra, but i dont like trigonometry or circle therom, and they come up in all of my exams
Tell me about it, i have another year to put up with it!
Well atleast you are putting up with it. I was barely in Maths during my last year. Eventually I got isolated from the Maths class.
My theory is that if i put up with it and attempt the stuff, then i'll do the GCSE in January so i wont have to do 4 months of it
The likeliness of me being good enough to do it early is very slim though
Thanks, i have a feeling that i'm going to need it!
Awww (((Hugs))).

amen, totally agreed, all you need is what you learn at primary school
I really want to specialise in Family Law. I just find it so interesting. 2nd choice is a child phsycologist.
im a nursery nurse but since having my son i dont really want to go back to that!
i really want to do reflexology and massage but dont know if im brave enough to go near other peoples feet!! so might just do massage!! found a indian head massage course and really like the sound of it!!
It's just so un-needed!
It really depends on what you do!
My husband works in IT and Maths is essential.

i dont have 1 clue what i want to be
Maths is necessary in my Job too, but lots of the things i've learnt about numbers have not come from school, its from finding different methods that are applicable to the job I do and be able to put them into practice. Saying that i've never seen the point of similutanous equasions.
The engineers in work use maths and algebra for foundation design and working out the chemical properties of soil (very intresting that!!)
