Coronation Street is lining up a spectacular stunt in the new year which will see one character left dead and the lives of many others left in tatters. And before long, fingers are being pointed as it becomes clear that the disaster was a deliberate criminal act. As Carla Connor determines to throw herself into her work at Underworld, she makes some major mistakes and in March, the roof of the factory will cave in and as several residents escape with their lives, not everyone is so lucky. Carla will end up taking the blame for the disaster which will send her spiralling out of control, leading to a special episode which will explore her struggles with mental health. But it will turn out that someone Carla has upset and with an ambition of their own is behind the spectacular and tragic calamity, sparking an intense whodunnit which will see an existing character become the Street’s next villain.

It is a fact that in spite of the few sensational cases that have been well documented over the years, serial killers are very rare. And yet they seem to turn up with alarming regularity in just one street in Lancashire!

Coronation Street has aired the first look at its dramatic boat fire.
The ITV soap uploaded a two-minute trailer to its YouTube channel on Sunday (January 13), detailing its biggest forthcoming storylines.
Following the teasing of Amy Barlow's forthcoming pregnancy storyline as well as the return of Kylie Platt's killer, Clayton Hibbs — the trailer saw a spluttering Simon (Alex Bain) trapped inside Peter Barlow's (Chris Gascoyne) boat on the canal.
It follows previous confirmation that the soap would air a storyline in which a surprising culprit commits arson against Peter by setting fire to the boat back in December.
The trailer also suggests Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) very well may cheat on Gary Windass (Mikey North) with Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).
It also sees Gemma (Dolly Rose Campbell) and Chesney (Sam Aston) giving into temptation after what seems like months of foreplay, and Weatherfield newbie James suggesting it was Tyrone's gran Evelyn who left him outside a police station as a baby, not his mum.
Scandalous.

Hot on the heels of Coronation Street teasing the dramatic boat fire storyline that was first revealed in October, it has now been confirmed who the culprit is.
The plot sees Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) trapped on a boat that's been set ablaze, and passed out from smoke inhalation with dad Peter (Chris Gascoyne) frantically trying to come to his aid.
Producer Iain MacLeod had said that "the identity of the 'arsonist' is a bit of a surprise", and according to The Sun, that's certainly the case.
The publication has revealed that Corrie veteran Roy Cropper (David Neilson) is to blame – but it's not as cut-and-dry as that.
The boss of Roy's Rolls cafe is suffering from so much stress in the aftermath of his mother's death, that he ends up sleepwalking – and in the process, knocking over a paraffin lamp which starts the blaze and endangers Simon.
This sets in motion a series of events – including Carla Connor's (Alison King) attempts to cover Roy's tracks after she witnesses the incident on CCTV at Underworld – involving erasing the tapes, burning Roy's jacket and framing someone else. And of course, the incident has a drastic effect on both Simon and Peter.
The storyline is just one of the many tumultuous events headed the way of the Corrie cast in 2019, as a newly-released trailer also shows Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) looking likely to cheat on Gary Windass (Mikey North) with Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson), and Gemma (Dolly Rose Campbell) and Chesney (Sam Aston) letting months of flirtation finally come to a steamy head.
Looks like the canal won't be the only place hotting up...

who does carla frame, tracy who she got blamed for?
I'm not sure I like the way they're doing another "cover up" storyline, this time involving Carla and Roy. They have a nice friendship so why are the writers ruining it with secrets, lies and the inevitable conflict that it will cause between the two of them? I'll wait and see how it unfolds but at the moment I have a bad feeling about it...

Coronation Street is going to be visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past this year.
ITV has announced that a one-hour special called Corrie at Christmas will be airing in the run-up to Christmas, featuring some of the most beloved festive moments from Weatherfield.
Corrie at Christmas will also include interviews with current and classic cast members reflecting on what the festive season has meant on the cobbles over nearly 60 years now.
"Corrie at Christmas promises to bring joy through iconic archive and cast memories from Christmases past in Weatherfield," executive producer Sue Walton said.
"Peace and goodwill can be short-lived on the cobbles during the festive season which always brings drama as well as plenty of fun and heart-warming moments - all captured in this documentary which will pack a Christmas punch."
As Walton mentioned, Weatherfield is never short of drama in the festive season. Whether it's Annie Walker being visited by some unwelcome faces from her past, the legendary Hilda Ogden saying her goodbyes on Christmas Day or even the birth of David Platt, Crimbo has always been eventful!
In more recent years, ITV has shocked viewers with tumultuous couple Steve and Tracy's reunion as well as Liz McDonald's hit-and-run over the Christmas period.
An official air date for Corrie at Christmas will be confirmed by ITV as the festive season approaches.

Coronation Street stars share first teasers for Christmas episodes
It's not even Halloween yet, but the stars of Coronation Street are already teasing what we can expect from the soap's Christmas episodes.
While Corrie is usually known for warm and light festive editions, this year's may be a bit darker and more dramatic than usual.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Fiz Stape actress Jennie McAlpine said: "I've read the script for Christmas Eve. It's quite dramatic. I'm not sure if I'll be getting any turkey this year. Fiz is going to be quite busy!
"It's not all mistletoe and jingle bells. I can't say if anyone dies. If I told someone that, I'd have to kill them!"
Meanwhile, Jenny Connor actress Sally Ann Matthews added: "I've just received scripts for Christmas. What I can say is it's beyond dramatic. It's big and edge-of-your-seat stuff. It's not just one story either.
"There are several big stories happening. We usually have feel-good Christmas episodes. And this year it certainly starts off that way.
"People will want to tune in for it on Christmas Day. My advice is not to have too much turkey and eggnog so you'll still be awake enough to watch it!"
Filming for some of the Christmas episodes has already begun, with set photos showing a violent confrontation between two characters.
Meanwhile, a classic Corrie villain is returning to the Cobbles for a special Halloween-themed set tour. You can find out more about that here.

Would be brilliant if Pat Phelan came back from the dead and scared Eileen to Death, now that would be a good Halloween

Coronation Street could see a very dramatic Christmas this year, as set pictures suggest there could be a disaster in store.
Paparazzi photos taken on Wednesday night (October 16) show smoke rising over the set.
A gas canister also exploded at a fun fair outside the Underworld factory.
Manchester Evening News reports that those living near the area heard people "screaming" as well as "lots of flashing lights".
Aside from that, details are sparse. It is unclear how serious the scenes are or if it really is a big disaster.
A Coronation Street spokesperson told Digital Spy: "We don't comment on storyline speculation."
Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt, previously said that fans can expect "quite a lot happening over Christmas".
"There's quite a big episode on Christmas Day. It's secret, though," she added.
Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Stape) and Sally Ann Matthews (Jenny Connor) also described the Christmas episodes as "dramatic".
"It's not all mistletoe and jingle bells. I can't say if anyone dies," said McAlpine, while Matthews teased: "It's big and edge-of-your-seat stuff. It's not just one story either."

Evelyn can look after them. She'll make a much better job of it than Fiz and Tyrone!
Hopefully yes and in his shooting spree he guns down Maria, Michelle, Ali, Ryan, Fiz and Tyrone
that would be good mass deaths from shooting but too controversial
robert dies only
They raised hope so hardly good parenting here
In coming weeks Gary will find out about Ali's drug addiction, but I have a feeling that he will also find out about his murder of Ronan - and will later pin it on Adam. If you recall Adam and Ronan had a history - back in March 2017 they were involved in a drug deal which ended sour, yet the next time we see Ronan in September 2018 he and Adam are perfectly fine despite parting on extremely sour terms after Adam slept with Ronan's girlfriend Trina. Therefore it is extremely possible that something happened between the two events - what did happen was Adam hired some unknown thugs in September 2017 to take away Underworld's roof as a favour to Eva. We never found out who these thugs were, but Adam hadn't even been in the country a year at that point and the only thugs he'd come into contact with were Ronan and his cronies.
I have a feeling that, after finding out Ali murdered Ronan, Gary will frame Adam - possibly leading Tracy to feel extremely guilty at her nephew getting blamed for the car she vandalised and possibly sleeping with Paula as some way to cope. Gary may also be able to work out the factory roof connection between Ronan and Adam and then put the blame for the collapse on him too - just in case Rick's body is ever found.
Coronation Street's festive special, which will celebrate some of the soap's biggest Christmas moments, has finally landed an airdate.
So gather your family around the TV on Friday, December 20 at 8.30pm for Corrie at Christmas to catch some of the show's most beloved festive moments from the past.
The one-hour special will also include interviews with current and classic cast members as they reflect on what Christmas on the cobbles has meant over the show's run.
"Corrie at Christmas promises to bring joy through iconic archive and cast memories from Christmases past in Weatherfield," executive producer Sue Walton previously said.
"Peace and goodwill can be short-lived on the cobbles during the festive season which always brings drama as well as plenty of fun and heart-warming moments – all captured in this documentary which will pack a Christmas punch."
Corrie has of course featured plenty of memorable festive moments over the years, including the birth of David Platt and Annie Walker being visited by some unwelcome people from her past.
