I might just go ahead and fake it this year though.

I think nivea have brought out a body cream that has a hint of fake tan that builds up to make it look natural. might try that and just stay out of hte sun so i dont burn

I am very lucky I tan never burn and tan stays cos I have a warm bath not hot and always put on after sun. Hot baths and shower make your tan fade very quickly.

Been using Johnsons"Holiday Skin" which is like a moisturiser, but it tints your skin gradually, seams to be working well so far (touches wood).

omg, the worst thing happened the other day, i went out on wednesday and coz it was in the late afternoon i thought i didn't need a high factor sun cream but when i got home i thought "oh, look at that. A nice tan with out even trying......" then i realised i was wearing one of those sleeveless tops and i pulled the strap down and the skin was a MUCH lighter colour (don't you just HATE it when that happens??) so i look so funny in my bikini coz i have 2 different shades on my arms!!! lol:) so, tomorrow i'm gonna try and even that out! lol

My dad had this skin condiation that makes your skin blister as soon as he went in the sun without cream on. He had to have light treatment in central london to try and sort it. Last year my skin started doing the same, so i hope this doesn't happen. I hope it was purely severe blistering having got very burnt, but i cant be sure unless it happens again

I tan, But the reason why you Tan is because it protect your skin

Its not because you protect your skin, people just have different skin types.

Angeltigger
27-11-2005, 19:11
Oh so now you are telling me i am lieing- i know this is a fact as i do Beauty- if you never got a tan you would have really red skin and it will always hurt

xsoftladybugx
27-11-2005, 19:12
I didnt say you was lying. what your saying might not be true i look after my skin so carefully and i dont go brown.

Angeltigger
27-11-2005, 19:14
Yeah but that as you look after yourself- but what i was saying was someone who is always out in the sun- a tan would protect them if they had sun cream on. And what i am saying is true as my beauty teacher told me

di marco
27-11-2005, 19:59
but if a tan protects your skin, wouldnt everyone tan?

Angeltigger
27-11-2005, 20:12
But like i have said it depand on what you are like- it depand on when you go in the sun how long you stay out in the sun- So if you are in the sun only a hour a day than you will not get a tan- but if like me you stay out more than 5 hours in the sun and put suncream on than i will get a tan- be red and than i might get sun cancer

di marco
27-11-2005, 20:23

but i can stay out in the sun for ages with suncream on and not get a tan and some people can be out for hardly anytime at all and get a really good one?

Angeltigger
27-11-2005, 20:25
than maybe it has something to do with skin type like xsoftladybugx said or maybe you are putting it on thick

yeh it does protect you from the suns rays but thats not why people get them, its to do with the pigment in your skin whether you get a tan or not

27-11-2005, 20:36
well i will believe my beauty teacher

What is a tan and how is it produced?
The darkening of the skin that is commonly referred to as tanning is produced when UV rays from the sun trigger the production of the pigment melanin in the skin. Rather than being a sign of a healthy process, getting a tan through sunbathing actually means that your skin has been damaged and is trying to protect itself.

Dr. Vivienne Nathanson, from the British Medical Association, said, "People need to be educated about the myths of tanning. A suntan is not a sign of good health. A tan, even when there's no burning, always means the skin has been damaged." Even though a tan will fade over time, the damage it has caused skin remains. This skin damage puts you at a greater risk of skin cancer and it also causes premature ageing.

Some people get their tans by using sunbeds. However, sunbeds mimic the effect of the sun by emitting UVA radiation and cause skin damage in the same way as normal sunbathing. In fact, said Cancer Research UK (CRUK), "There's no such thing as a safe tan - unless it comes out of a bottle."

There are some myths that suggest that getting a tan could help protect against the sun's harmful effects, but as Dr. Nathanson said, "A suntan is not nature's own sunscreen, it does not protect you from ultra-violet radiation." In fact, continued exposure will only result in increasing your risk of skin cancer.

A spokesperson for the Australasian College of Dermatologists added, "A suntan does not prevent skin cancer. It's a sign of exposure to enough ultraviolet radiation to damage the skin, increasing your risk of premature skin ageing, photo-ageing and skin cancer."

i tan easily in fact i have a funny story i can tell about my tan:

well when i went to indoneisa in the summer becaus its really near the eqautor the sun is really fierce so one day i was realxing on a boat and it was the middle of the day so the sun was right above me and i fell asleep. i had my t-shirt on and whilst i was sleeping my t-shirt didnt cover the whole top half of my body so when i woke up i had thsi massive tan strip across my tummy  where my t-shirt hadnt been and its still there now! and its been like 6 or 7 months! and its very visible its only stayed cos the sun was so fiece so if you get a tan there it will stay for ages!:rotfl:

Abbie
