View Full Version : "Dodgy" Camera-work in EE
Hello all,
I'm sure some of you, like me, have noticed the weird and wonky camera work in EastEnders this week- wobbly shots, lopsided shots, people half-in and half-out of shot while speaking, out of focus shots, and so on. I found this really distracting and it kind of ruined the show for me on Monday, so I asked the BBC and was told they were now using digital handheld cameras, because apparently this adds "tension and realism" to the show.
Now I really don't think that's true- I think there was nothing wrong with the way they've been making and shooting EE for 20 years, so why change it now?!?!
The bad news is that it from the email they sent me it doesn't seem to be a one-off, or an experiment- EE is now going to be wobbly and badly cut forever......
...unless someone tells them to stop!! So I urge all of you who don't like this new style to drop the bbc a line via the complaints section on their website. It doesn't have to be a big rant, just say you liked it better before and they should change back.
If you like the new style, fair enough, and if you haven't noticed a change then look closely next episode- once you've noticed it you'll find it's a real pain!!
There was nothing wrong with how they were doing it before- IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!

i no!!
do you think it is the cameras or the camera men??
A bit of both i guess. How does it make it "real" and "tense"?
Do all soaps use it now then?
I noticed, after someone on here said something, i kept my eyes peeled and yeh it is quite wonky!
They womble everywhere as well

yeah is it like that in other soaps or just ee?
I think its just EE, but i might be wrong. I didn't notice it on EE untill i read someones post, then it became really obvious so i might have just not noticed it i guess.

14-07-2005, 20:32
ok now back to ee
Do you get that, where you just want them to get bak together and get on with what we know is going to happen? I dont get excited by the arguements and th 'will they, wont they?' thing now because its just annoying
hehe! yeah i know its a shame that we know whats coming up but i cant help meself looking at the spoilers! yes i made my banner myself, i only had paint so its not very good but its the best i could do :)
I just want them to get on with it now!
i know what you mean! because i know whats going to happen i just want them to hurry up and do it! lol
I should stop reading hte spoilers, cause they ruin it in a way, but they are sooo tempting...

i kind of noticed. but i pay more attention to what is happening to be honest lol
they are so tempting and when you know theyre only a click away you cant help but to have a look at them lol. oh well.
Did anyone notice the really good one when Jonny was driving Jake and Danny to the woods - one minute the interior lights were on, but when the shot changed position as the car went round the corner, they were off!!!
lol i never noticed that! sometimes they make such stupid mistakes with the cameras
I didn't see that, you'd think that someone would notice wouldn't you?
You'd have thought so, cause it was a pretty obvious on, especially as it was dark outside too!
They would have had to of edited it at some points. Maybe they need glasses or something!

The dodgy cameras remind me a bit of the Blair Witch Project. I only really noticed it when there wasn't much else happening. I can see why it might seem like a good idea - it makes you feel a bit more like you are standing in the room watching.

You aren't the only one, I hadn't noticed it, the problem is thats all I will be looking out for in tonights episode.
I haven't noticed it yet either, i will be looking out for it.
i hadnt noticed it but last night i looked out for it and i think there was a bit of wobbliness!!
I didn't watch last ight, but it could have just been teething problems before, so now they are learning how to make it look better
