Real-life Afghanistan war veteran Cassidy Little is joining the cast of Coronation Street later this month.

The 36-year-old actor will play a Paralympic champion who is hired as a mentor to Jack Webster, CBC confirms. Jack had to have his foot amputated in a heartbreaking sepsis storyline earlier this year.

Digital Spy has reached out to ITV for more details on Little's casting.

Canadian-born Little, a former marine, lost a leg in combat during a tour of Afghanistan in 2011. He has since gone on to have a career as an actor, and also won Strictly Come Dancing's Comic Relief spin-off in 2015.

Speaking to CBC about his upcoming role in Corrie, Little said: "I've come in as a military buddy of another character and kind of trains Paralympic athletes, and I've come in as the guy who grabs life by the horns and shakes really hard, and then shakes really hard, and then tries to rub that attitude off a little bit, by proxy, onto Jack."

Cassidy Little will appear in six episodes of the ITV soap later this year.

Hats off to corrie producers , cracking, original idea. Look forward to viewing. Pity only six episodes. Something positive, a change to some of the dross being churned out of late.
