Coronation Street has cast Hannah Ellis Ryan in the role of Jim and Liz McDonald's long-lost daughter Katie.

Tabloid reports circulating this week have suggested that Jim will arrive back in Weatherfield with a daughter in tow – in a twist that will turn Liz's world upside down.

Back in 1992, Liz and Jim had a baby girl, named Katie, who was born prematurely and thought not to have survived long after birth.

Little else is known about the story at the moment, but The Sun is now reporting that Australian actress Hannah has been cast in the role of Katie.

Katie's arrival is rumoured to cause shockwaves on the Cobbles, as Liz in particular struggles to cope with the return of the child she has always believed was dead.

Digital Spy reached out to ITV about Hannah's casting, but it declined to comment.

Charles Lawson confirmed his character Jim's return to the street earlier this year, saying: "They wanted me back full time this year, but I couldn't do it as I am doing Rebus on stage and a thriller.

"I'm going to film a bit but then will be back again next year."

The storyline:

Liz and Jim McDonald will be seen reuniting at the grave of their daughter Katie McDonald, unaware that she is actually alive.

It was recently revealed that the McDonald family will be rocked by the news that the daughter and sister Liz, Jim, Andy and Steve thought had died shortly after her birth, had actually survived and had been adopted and taken to live in Australia.

In pictures of the cast filming on location, Coronation Street stars Beverley Callard and Charles Lawson were seen reuniting in front of a gravestone – believed to be Katie's – during a visit to the cemetery.

Confirmed: Hannah who is actually Kate, will also join corrie in scenes set to air in September this year !
