Audrey gets a new man next week in Coronation Street. He'll be introduced to the show as a hospital radio DJ who Audrey meets while she's there recovering from an accident.
Audrey's new fella will be called Geoff Metcalfe and he's played by actor Ian Bartholemew.
Ian Bartholemew starred on stage in my favourite musical, Half a Sixpence, where he played the role of Chitterlow. He's done a great deal of theatre and stage work in his time, everything from Shakespeare to Noël Coward to Guys and Dolls.
His film work includes: Eisenstein, Shiner, Half a Shave, Max and Helen, A Prayer for the Dying, Little Dorrit, Esther Khan and Denial.
And on TV you may have seen him in New Blood, Maigret, The Accused, Foyle’s War, Thieves Like Us, Spooks, Florence, Casualty, The Echo, Thacker, Perfect Scoundrels, Follow the Star, South Riding, Bergerac, Open Wide, DCI Banks, Empire, Without Motive, Wycliffe, Harry, The Blackheath Poisonings, The Darling Buds of May, The Comic Strip, The Good Companions, The Professionals and Minder.
Ian was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 1991 for Into the Woods; Best Supporting Actor in a Musical in 1993 for Radio Times; and Best Actor in a Musical in 2016 for Mrs Henderson Presents. He won the Manchester Evening News Award for Best Supporting Actor as Doolittle in Pygmalion at the Royal Exchange in 2010.
Quite a pedigree! We're looking forward to seeing him turn up in Corrie next week.
tim's dad?
Dad or uncle .. coincidence otherwise to also be called Metcalfe
I did not notice his surname before. I thought his dad was not so close by because they needed to get far away from phelan
Coronation Street has officially confirmed the identity of newcomer Geoff Metcalfe.
Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) is the father of Weatherfield regular Tim Metcalfe, as fans had already started to suspect after his debut this week.
Friday's Corrie double bill (March 30) saw radio DJ Geoff cement his friendship with Audrey Roberts after they'd met at the local hospital.
After Geoff accidentally got locked out of his own studio at the hospital, Audrey was forced to step in to keep his live radio show on track for the patients.
Later on, Geoff was seen chatting with Sally and Faye at Number 4, where his identity as Tim's father was finally confirmed.
Since Tim was pretty busy dealing with Eileen and Phelan's final showdown at the time, we haven't yet seen him interacting with his dad – but we're sure to find out more about their dynamic in future episodes.
Geoff made his first appearance on Corrie this week when he met Audrey and Rita while doing the rounds at the hospital.
He introduced himself with the surname Metcalfe, sparking a couple of days of speculation among fans over how he could be related to Tim.

Should have know Geoff was too good to be true
But I welcome this story line, so many people are in "Gas Lighted" relationships and can't see it.
I remember Charlie and Shelley in a similar storyline years ago and it really became a talking point among "my crowd" some even seeing it in their relationships:clap:

I am guessing this nasty Geoff does not work in the hospital anymore, a big change in his personality from when he first appeared cheering up a smitten Audrey
I can't imagine he enjoys working in Speed Daal with Yasmeen as his boss, to all intents and purposes. (I know Sophie's the manager but Yasmeen seems to be in charge most of the time). I can just see him persuading her to give up work, "for her own good", of course, and stay at home where he can control her even more...
I find it hard to watch but good storyline
I'm really hoping Tim will figure out something isn't right but he has his own stuff going on at the moment. I can't think of anyone who will be able to talk to Yasmeen and bring her to her senses - Alya has moved out and Geoff will probably isolate her from anyone who gets suspicious. Besides, it'll probably turn out like Eileen and Phelan, with Yasmeen unwilling to listen to anyone who tries to warn her.

Cracking storyline and already people are talking about how easy it is to conned into wanting to believe the good and not see the actual harm.
I hope many people watching can recognise some of the issues in their own relationships!

Is Tim's mother, Geoff's ex wife dead?
They were divorced many years ago .. I can imagine the scriptwriters will think of a way to bring her to Coronation Street before long .... :p
When he came into Corrie first, I remember he told Yasmeen that he had been married twice - his first wife died of cancer after a few years and he was divorced from his second wife. I'm presuming Tim's mother was the second wife but it was never really confirmed.
Bringing her into the show would be great - she might be able to warn Yasmeen...

Geoff and Yasmeen return as a married couple... as predicted by many of us ..
Upcoming scenes in ITV's Coronation Street will see Geoff Metcalfe getting even nastier towards his wife Yasmeen Nazir after they get home from Las Vegas.
Set to air on Monday, December 9, the pair return to Weatherfield as newlyweds, where their friends decide to arrange a party for them to celebrate their marriage.
In amongst the booze and food, a tiny hiccup occurs that really annoys Geoff, leading to another horrible altercation in the ongoing coercive control storyline.
At first, Geoff showers Yasmeen with compliments in front of the partygoers, singing her praises and noting how he never thought he'd find love again.
However, guest Cathy Matthews later bites into a crab canapé and encounters a shard of shell, carefully removing it while Geoff watches on with mounting irritation.
When everyone's gone home, Geoff accuses Yasmeen of embarrassing him in front of their guests, and retrieves the crab shell from the bin while suggesting she should eat it.
These scenes are part of Coronation Street's storyline that aims to highlight that domestic abuse isn't always physical.
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, December 9 at 7.30pm on ITV.

I think this story line is very good, already my friends are talking about how they were not aware this bullying is a form of domestic violence, it is much more common than people
realise and are living in misery every day, thinking they are the problem, Jasmeen is doing a good job of being subtly maniuplated into a shrew

One of the biggest criticisms of this storyline is that Yasmeen started out as a fairly strong character and now she's allowing herself to be manipulated and controlled by Geoff. But I'm wondering if this is why Geoff is trying to control her in the first place - he's threatened by strong women and feels he has to "cut her down to size", if I can put it that way. A bit creepy, of course, but it's a possibility.

Coronation Street villain Geoff Metcalfe feels triumphant tonight (August 14) after Tim and Sally's latest row.
Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) is delighted when he learns that Tim and Sally have fallen out over their wedding fund.
Earlier this week, Sally (Sally Dynevor) decided to hand over the money that Geoff gave her and Tim to spend on their ceremony.
Knowing that the savings rightfully belonged to Yasmeen (Shelley King), Sally didn't feel comfortable spending them and gave them back to Alya (Sair Khan).
In Friday's episode, Sally makes another apology to Tim (Joe Duttine) for making this decision without consulting him.
Sally also promises that they can still afford a wedding without needing to rely on Geoff's contributions, insisting that she'd never let anything jeopardise their romantic plans.
Later on, Geoff celebrates the latest tensions by lecturing Sally on the unbreakable bond between a father and son.
Geoff continues to hint that he'll always come first for Tim and that Sally should be wary of crossing him.
As we've previously revealed, this argument will ultimately come back to haunt Geoff next week when Tim finds out about it.
Fed up with being caught between his partner and his father, Tim heads off with Sally to go and stay with Gina for a while, leaving Geoff with few allies left.
Geoff Metcalfe is questioned by the police after Sally Webster steals his laptop and tries to recover the CCTV footage of his final argument with Yasmeen next week in Coronation Street.
Viewers have been predicting the footage - which proves Yasmeen?s innocence - will be the key to Geoff?s downfall for weeks after Tim walked in on him deleting it earlier this year.
Geoff got away with it by feeding Tim a sob story about installing a camera because he felt unsafe around Yasmeen, before binning it with their used fish and chip papers.
But the walls will begin to close around Geoff when Tim will tell Sally about the CCTV camera this week after his dad terrorises Alya at Speed Daal.
Sally is horrified by the revelation and tries to get Tim to see Geoff for the monster he is.
Next week?s episodes of Coronation Street will see tensions rise between Sally and Tim.
Geoff assures Tim that he?s the victim in all of this and Tim promises his dad he believes him.
Meanwhile, Sally tells Cathy about the hidden CCTV camera and Cathy says any footage will be on Geoff?s laptop.
Later, Sally hatches a plan and tells Faye she wants to get a book for Yasmeen and asks for the keys.
As she?s searching the house, Sally spots Geoff?s laptop and puts it into her bag.
But it all kicks off when Geoff returns just in time to spot her snooping around.
Will Geoff believe she was collecting a book - or might things turn nasty?
Later, viewers will see a panicked Sally escaping from the house and shouting for help.
Tim comes to her rescue and takes her home, where she tells him that she?s stolen Geoff?s laptop and wants to view the footage.
With Faye?s help, the trio try to download the deleted camera app and CCTV footage.
Later, the police arrive and tell Geoff that new evidence has appeared - and that they have some questions for him.
Have Sally and Tim found the footage of his final argument with Yasmeen?
If so, is it all over for Geoff?
Corrie producer Ian MacLeod has already confirmed that Geoff will meet his downfall this year.
He previously said: "What form that comeuppance takes is still in discussion. We wanted a redemptive ending ultimately for Yasmeen."
Adding that he, Ian and Shelley had been in correspondence with real-life abuse victims, Ian continued: "For the sake of all those people, we have to tell the right ending with some positivity and optimism."

Iain MacLeod has dropped a hint about an unexpected lifeline for Yasmeen Metcalfe.
Viewers recently learned that Yasmeen (Shelley King) is recovering well following her recent heart attack, though that means her trial will now be looming once again.
With Yasmeen needing a defence to prove that her evil husband Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) was actually abusive, producer Iain MacLeod has teased that she might receive some surprising support from Daniel (Rob Mallard) and Nicky (Kimberley Hart-Simpson).
"We've got more for Daniel Osbourne," he told Digital Spy and other media in a Zoom press conference. "Obviously we've seen the beginning of his slightly messed-up burgeoning friendship with Nicky the sex worker. That will rumble on for quite some time, but probably not in the manner that you expect it to.
"One of my favourite elements of that story is that it draws in Geoff at a certain point, in a way that will become significant in the run-up to Yasmeen's court hearing at the end of the year. That's going to be really big."
It was already revealed that Geoff saw sex workers during his marriage to Yasmeen ? does Nicky have some damning evidence she can provide against him?
More trouble for Geoff is also on the horizon as his daughter-in-law Sally (Sally Dynevor) is set to steal his laptop, in order to convince Tim (Joe Duttine) and Faye (Ellie Leach) that the abuser had used a spy camera on his wife.
"At first, Tim and Faye don't want to see what is going on because they're worried, but Sally says: 'This will settle the argument once and for all. If there's nothing there, then you can come down on me and tell me I was wrong'," Sally Dynevor has told Digital Spy and other media.
"So, for Sally, it's really important to find the footage and try to show them the truth of what has been going on."

Ian Bartholomew has hinted that a final comeuppance for evil Geoff Metcalfe could be getting closer.
Geoff recently lost his last remaining ally when his son Tim finally saw his true nature, but he still remains a free man and hasn't faced the full consequences of his actions.
In a new chat with the next issue of Inside Soap ? out on Tuesday (September 22) ? Ian has spoken about what's next for Geoff, hinting that justice could be getting closer.
"Now that Tim is in the picture, I think we have to view this as the beginning of the end for Geoff," Ian told the magazine.
"The more out of control he feels, the less in control he behaves ? and I don't think it will end well, whatever happens.
"We love to hate a baddie, and see someone like Geoff get his comeuppance, so I suspect that he will.
"Let's be honest ? Geoff is going to get it!"
Ian spoke to the magazine to tie in with his nominations at the Inside Soap Awards 2020. He has been longlisted in the Best Actor and Best Villain categories, while the dramatic moment when Geoff's tormented wife Yasmeen fought back against him has been nominated in the Best Show-Stopper category.
Reflecting on the nods, Ian laughed: "This is all very exciting! Actors will always tell you that awards don't matter, until of course you're up for one ? and then they matter a great deal!
"It's really flattering and extremely gratifying to have your work recognised by other people, so I'm happy and humbled by it."

Geoff must go asap
Coronation Street villain Geoff Metcalfe tries to manipulate a jury next week as Yasmeen's trial begins.
Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) is determined to make sure that his estranged wife suffers further as she stands accused of attempted murder in tense scenes.
Viewers saw Yasmeen (Shelley King) lash out at Geoff in self-defence earlier this year after he'd tormented her with months of abuse.
When evil Geoff gets his chance to give evidence next week, he plays up to the jury and claims that Yasmeen subjected him to a vicious, nasty and unprovoked attack. He also lies that Yasmeen is a violent alcoholic.
Fortunately, Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) is on hand to cross-examine Geoff and give the true version of events.
Imran also questions Yasmeen, allowing her an opportunity to explain how Geoff was a controlling bully throughout their marriage.
The jury is shown the video footage which proves Geoff's abusive behaviour. For the first time, Geoff starts to look uneasy as it's clear that things may not be going his way.
Yasmeen bravely recalls Geoff's coercive and cruel behaviour, before explaining what really happened on the night of the bottle incident.
The prosecution barrister proves to be a formidable opponent, taking apart Yasmeen's version of events piece by piece.
Later in the week, Yasmeen's granddaughter Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) also provides evidence and faces a grilling of her own from the prosecution.
Geoff's daughter-in-law Sally (Sally Dynevor) gives testimony in support of Yasmeen too, but the prosecution dismisses her claims as hearsay.
Yasmeen and her loved ones are left on tenterhooks in the aftermath of the court drama, knowing that the trial could still go either way.
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Wednesday, December 2 and Friday, December 4 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

I am not looking forward to Alya giving evidence as she will start shouting at the barrister which she should not :nono:

This is true, but if Yasmeen is acquitted because of Geoff's abusive behaviour and provocation (which is really the only grounds she can be acquitted on), the police ought to start an investigation into Geoff....oh, what am I saying? This is the Weatherfield police.....
I believe they will kill him off as makes easy for Yasmin to keep house and stay on street

a fire, stand off fight with alya is what is mentioned about geoff dying
I do not think that Geoff will be killed ... producer has promised that he will get his comeuppance and killing him would not send the right message to other DV victims

Well, where is Elaine, apparently in some sort of institution?
Maybe she will be released and attacks him and he dies, she gets away with on grounds of diminished responsibility🤞

I hope you're right, Perdy. Killing him would be a real cop out. We need to see him tried, found guilty and packed off to an Institution at Her Majesty's pleasure.

I read that she is in a mental hospital due to Geoff frightening her so much. I do not think she will attack him but that she will turn up in court at the last minute just as Geoff thinks he has won and will turn the table on him. I am confident, going by what the producer has said and even Ian Bartholemew, that there will be a justified outcome for abusers like him

I would be quite happy with him dying slowly and pasinfully

What he be convicted of? A perjury conviction would not be obtained over night.

So Geoff sets the house on fire,
Yazmeen runs onto the roof to escape, and Alya who had her head bashed in, managed to recover, go into a house on fire, climbs onto the roof.
Yea really😜 how stupid do the writers think we are😒
Total let down and so predictable

I assume the fire went out of it's own accord.
Anyway, the end game for Geoff is death.
no hospital checks for alya or yas, bad exit for geoff
I've been thinking about Geoff's exit and although I really wanted him to go to prison rather than be killed off it's probably the best ending for him. He seems to have no concept of what he's done to Yasmeen and even if he was punished for what he's done he would probably still insist that he was trying to "improve" her like he did in court. Prison might not reform him, indeed it might only re-enforce his victim mentality.
Good to hear Yasmeen making fun of him though. And at least he fell off the roof rather than Yasmeen pushing him, which would only usher in a murder/manslaughter storyline for her.

There will still have to be an inquest but not necessarily on screen.
