View Full Version : DVD Recorders
Has anyone got a dvd recorder? Are they worth the money and do you reccomend any brand in perticular?
if your disc is RW i presume that is just like a video in the way that you can record over old stuff, but if it isnt can you record one then, then another on another day as long as it dosent go over what has already been recorded?
im thinking of getting one with my re-exchanged holiday money so just doing my research before i buy one
I've got one had it for about three years, quality wise its alot better than vids and I think the RW one's operate like a vid. Mine is a panasonic one.
Also would be good to look on the net for the best deal.

We have one, not sure how much it was (Mum and Dad did that part!) but it's re-writable (you have to get the right discs mind) and you can record one thing one day, then something else the next day and instead of with a tape recorder, you go onto direct navigator and select the programme you want - So no annoying fast forwarding/rewinding!
Also, you can record... say Eastenders, at 8, get in at 8:15, and watch the first quarter of an hour of Eastenders as it tapes the last quarter. Not quite sure if they all do it though, and how it works.
I think they are worth the money! I now get really annoyed when I watch stuff on tape, it's made me more impatient :p
Yep, the qualities great, though sometimes when playing back stuff it looks like it's going a few seconds slower - You can't hear it, but it looks like it. I think that's only if you put it on LP though.
Apparently mines a panosonic as well.

I am thinking about getting a DVD recorder too, but i wonder if it could record subtitles too? as I am deaf and don't like to miss TV prog but i do often do that and get mad when video recorder is unable to record subtitles. :wall:

i suppose if you do it from the digital channel...as like if you press red and record it records interactive stuff so if you set the subtitles to come up on a digital channel and recorded that then i think it would work

then i usppose i dosent work..which is very annoying for those unfornuate few...the tv companies should buck up their ideas actually!
how many hours would a disc hold that has these specifications:
RW
DVD + R
4.7 GB
REC SPEED 1X -4X
or does it depend on the dvd recorder that you buy, as some say 6 hours, 8 hours, 16 hours etc
