EastEnders has confirmed the first official details of the show's hour-long special on New Year's Day.

While fans always get excited about the show's Christmas episodes, New Year has also become known for a huge storyline – including Ronnie's dramatic car accident in 2015, Mick and Linda's wedding in 2016 and the Mitchell sisters' watery demise earlier this year.

It's now been revealed that Aidan Maguire's much-discussed dodgy job will take centre stage as 2018 kicks off with a bang.

After much deliberation, Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) will agree to be part of Aidan's criminal activity, as he's desperate for any way to keep a roof over his family's heads.

Aidan's job sees Mick, Phil Mitchell, Vincent Hubbard and Keanu Taylor all involved in helping him.

Each of the men has an important role to play in the risky plan, but things get off to a bad start when Mick only just arrives on time thanks to his mum Shirley trying to sabotage his efforts.

Sadly for Mick, Shirley refuses to give up on her attempts to intervene, fearing that he's making a terrible mistake by getting involved with Aidan.

Teaming up with Linda, a worried Shirley manages to track down the men involved in Aidan's antics – just as their job is starting to fall apart in spectacular style.

As for what goes wrong? That's a secret for now...

The New Year episode also marks the proper return of Masood Ahmed to Walford after his brief cameo recently. Masood turns up with his aunty Mariam and uncle Arshad, who are two new regulars for the show.

EastEnders airs these scenes on New Year's Day at 8pm on BBC One.

Meanwhile, Aidan Maguire's men come under scrutiny from their families on EastEnders as the day of their dodgy job arrives.

Phil Mitchell, Vincent Hubbard, Mick Carter and Keanu Taylor have all agreed to be part of Aidan's criminal plans – and despite some cold feet and last-minute wobbles over the next fortnight, they're all back on board in time for New Year's Day.

Sharon Mitchell realises that Phil is up to something when he seems to be behaving strangely on the day of the job, but he assures her that everything is going to be fine.

Making a decision she could end up regretting, Sharon knows better than to push for answers and turns a blind eye to his plotting.

Hour-long episode

It's the day of Aidan's long-planned dodgy job, but when Shirley finds out that Mick is involved, she tries her best to stop him. This means that Mick is a no-show, provoking a scary response from Aidan when he storms off with a gun.

Even though Shirley provides no answers when Aidan quizzes her, he ends up getting his way as Mick arrives in position just in time.

Sadly for Mick, his troubles are only just beginning. Not only is there a distraction when Masood pulls up with his aunty Mariam and uncle Arshad, Shirley isn't giving up on her attempts to sabotage his involvement with Aidan.

Teaming up with Linda, a worried Shirley manages to track down the men involved in Aidan's antics – just as their job is starting to fall apart.

Meanwhile, Kathy holds a tea party at the cafe.

Elsewhere, Masood tries to make his family feel better about moving to Walford.


Tuesday

Hour-long episode

Linda is worried about the future as the fallout from Aidan's job continues.

Meanwhile, the Ahmeds adjust to their new life in Walford.



Wednesday

Questions start to be asked with those involved in Aidan's job.

Meanwhile, Joyce takes down the Christmas decorations early and Ted considers a charitable act which could help some people close to home.




Thursday

Pressure is at an all-time high for those involved in Aidan's job.


EastEnders doesn't air on Friday this week due to football coverage.
