Coronation Street introduces a new character tonight (October 6), who could be central to the next big twist in the Pat Phelan storyline.

Scheming Phelan (Connor McIntyre) currently has a brand new problem to deal with, as budding reporter Daniel Osbourne is determined to dig up dirt about his involvement in last year's flats scam.

Although Phelan is confident there isn't enough evidence to link him to any wrongdoing in the Calcutta Street property con, he soon realises that he may have badly underestimated Daniel.

When Daniel receives a sudden phone call over a new lead, he jumps straight into a cab to check it out – forcing a flummoxed Phelan to follow him in his van.

Phelan is left highly confused as Daniel visits a private nursing home, where he talks to an old lady called Mrs McArdle (Eileen Davies).

We're sworn to secrecy on who Mrs McArdle is for now, but Phelan is very unsettled when he realises what's going on.

Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel, recently teased: "When Daniel goes to the nursing home, that lights a fire underneath Phelan.

"Up until that point, Phelan just thinks he is a student writing a little piece, but when Daniel goes to the nursing home, Phelan panics."

Coronation Street revisits Pat Phelan's reign of terror next week as Flora McArdle makes an upsetting discovery.

Phelan's storyline finally came to an end when Anna Windass stabbed him to death earlier this month, but just when the local residents were starting to move on, Daniel Osbourne stirs things up again.

Next week's episodes see Daniel (Rob Mallard) bask in the limelight when his article on Phelan's killing spree appears in the Weatherfield Gazette.

Daniel's girlfriend Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn) congratulates him on his achievement, but they rush to hide the newspaper from Daniel's flatmate Flora.

Flora's son Vinny – aka Harvey – lost his life thanks to Phelan in October 2017 and so naturally features as part of Daniel's tell-all article.

Daniel and Sinead want to spare Flora the heartbreak of having to read all about it, but the situation is taken out of their hands when Ken Barlow unwittingly shows her a copy.

Flora is devastated to read that Phelan arranged the murder of her beloved son and struggles to cope with the grim details.

Feeling terrible, Daniel and Sinead both rally round Flora and promise to help with Vinny's funeral arrangements. Will Flora accept their support?

Played by Eileen Davies, Flora has been appearing in Corrie on and off since October 2017.

She's currently living on Coronation Street as Daniel discovered that she wasn't being looked after properly at her care home and decided to intervene.
