Ryan Thomas says g’day mate to Neighbours as he signs up to the Aussie soap.

The ex-Coronation Street star is trading the cobbled streets of Weatherfield for warmer climes in Erinsborough as we can reveal he’s bagged a role on the popular show.

His first part since Corrie is sure to raise eyebrows as Ryan, 33, becomes one of only a few Brit TV stars to move Down Under.

Little is known about his character Raphael and how long he will be a part of the show, but insiders are expecting him to be a big hit.

A source said: “Ryan’s news may come as a bit of a surprise but people are confident he’ll make a big splash on Neighbours.

“He’ll bring his Corrie fans with him and earn a new legion of fans along the away.

“He is just waiting on his visa. Then he’ll be moving to Australia to film the show.”

While Brit exports to Aussie soaps are rare, many alumni of Ramsay Street – such as Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan – have made a huge success on our screens. It was also a platform for Guy Pearce, Holly Valance and Margot Robbie .

I’m sure Ryan is hoping for a similar boost from the show – nearly axed by Channel 5 because of a disagreement with producers, as the Sunday Mirror exclusively revealed.

It is not yet known what the move will do for Ryan’s blossoming romance with ex-Towie star Lucy Mecklenburgh , 26.

They confirmed their relationship after meeting on Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls and are currently in Italy at a wedding. Ryan also has an eight-year-old daughter with former Corrie co-star Tina O’Brien.

The actor had been tipped to head to the jungle later this year, following younger brother Adam. Maybe he could eat some witchetty grubs between filming?

It’s a turn of fortune for Ryan, who filed for bankruptcy after getting a £40,000 tax bill. When he left Corrie last year after playing Jason Grimshaw for 16 years there was speculation – denied by Ryan – he was aiming for Hollywood.

Now it looks like he will be going global.

Great to have you back, Ryan!

Neighbours has confirmed that former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas will be joining the show next year.

Ryan – who is known for his role as Corrie's Jason Grimshaw – is swapping the colder conditions of the Cobbles for sunnier climates on Ramsay Street.

The actor will play Rafael Humphreys – a loner with dark secrets, who arrives in Erinsborough to confront a difficult chapter from his past. His first scenes will air in 2018.

Speaking about his exciting new role, Ryan said: "I grew up watching Neighbours so to get the chance to join the cast is amazing.

"I was on holiday with my daughter when I got a phone call from my agent asking if I'd like to play this part... I spoke to the producer and found out more. It was very different from anything I'd played before – it was quite a deep, dark story that really interested me. It's a new challenge and I can't wait to start filming."

Channel 5's Commissioning Editor Greg Barnett added: "With his good looks and Corrie years under his belt, Ryan is the perfect handsome devil. His arrival in Erinsborough marks the start of darker times for a particular Ramsay Street favourite. Prepare to be gripped."

Ryan joined Corrie in 2000 at the age of 16 – playing the role for 16 years, before bowing out last year.

Ryan's casting follows the exciting news that Neighbours has been promoted to an all-year-round soap, thanks to a brand new deal with FremantleMedia.

Paige and Mark apparently are going to get close again ....

What is it with Mark, and other woman`s kids? First there was Steph and her son Charley. Then there was the whole having a baby with Sonya while engaged to Steph. Now it`s likely to be Paige, and her son Gabe.

With the amount of women that Mark has been with over the years - I`m amazed he hasn`t impregnated half of Erinsborough.

Digital Spy article. Next week, Ryan Thomas is filming the final scenes for his (short) guest role on Neighbours as character Rafael Humphreys:

Coronation Street's Ryan Thomas is filming his Neighbours exit next week.

All good things must come to an end.

Former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas has been pictured on set at Neighbours as he begins his final fortnight working on the Aussie soap.

The actor, best known for playing Weatherfield's Jason Grimshaw, has spent the past few weeks filming in Melbourne after landing a guest role as Neighbours newbie Rafael Humphreys.

On-set sources have now revealed that Ryan will complete his shooting commitments at the end of next week.

The ex-Corrie actor has been busy filming scenes this week with Matt Wilson, who plays the popular role of Aaron Brennan.

These new pictures show Ryan and Matt sharing a laugh between takes, having struck up a firm friendship in recent weeks.

A Neighbours insider revealed: "For someone with a big profile like Ryan, cast and crew have really been taken by surprise by the English star's laidback and kind nature – he will be missed when he wraps up his guest role at the end of next week."

Matt also recently told Digital Spy: "Ryan's a good lad. He's actually staying around the corner from me, so every couple of days, we'll catch up for a coffee or a beer somewhere.

"We're trying to show Ryan around Melbourne, and he even brought the English rugby league team onto set the other day. Tommy Burgess came onto set and a few of the other players, so that was good.

"I think Ryan is comfortable here, but if only we could keep him for a little longer, that would be even better."

Ryan's scenes as Rafael will air on Neighbours in February and March next year. Little is known about the character at the moment, but he's been described as a loner with dark secrets, who comes to Ramsay Street to confront a difficult chapter from his past.

Channel 5's commissioning editor Greg Barnett recently teased: "With his good looks and Corrie years under his belt, Ryan is the perfect handsome devil. His arrival in Erinsborough marks the start of darker times for a particular Ramsay Street favourite. Prepa
re to be gripped."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.

Neighbours reveals a secret about newcomer Rafael as former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas strips off.

Could these scars be why he's out for revenge?

Former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas is stripping off to reveal a brand new Neighbours mystery in this first look at his Aussie soap debut.

The actor has been cast in the role of mysterious newcomer Rafael Humphreys, who makes his first appearance in a special late-night episode next month.

These brand new pictures from the 10pm special show Rafael taking off his shirt to reveal some nasty scars on his back.

Not surprisingly, Neighbours bosses are keeping very tight-lipped about what caused his injuries – but could this be the reason that Rafael is coming to Ramsay Street in the first place?

Show chiefs have revealed that Rafael is an English tourist who comes to Erinsborough because he has a score to settle.

Although revenge is his main motivation at first, Rafael gets an unexpected distraction when he begins to fall for one of the Street's residents. Could this cause his plans to falter?

Ryan is best known for playing Jason Grimshaw on Corrie between 2000 and 2016.

His role as Rafael is a guest part, but he'll be on screen for several weeks – with plenty of twists and turns in store along the way.

Neighbours' hour-long special will also feature the return of schemer Izzy Hoyland, as well as several of Toadie Rebecchi's old friends for his very belated 21st birthday party.

Neighbours airs its big episode on Monday, February 12 at 10pm on Channel 5.

Neighbours kicks off a possible romance storyline for newcomer Rafael Humphreys today (February 21) as he gets to know David Tanaka at The Waterhole.

Rafael finally takes a break from plotting against Paul Robinson to spend some time with David – completely unaware that the sweet-natured doctor is his arch-enemy's son.

It all begins when David's siblings Leo and Amy notice a possible chemistry between him and Rafael, quickly encouraging him to take it further.

Although Rafael doesn't respond too well to David's early approach, he later loosens up when persistent David tries again.

After working a shift at The Waterhole, Rafael enjoys an impromptu date with David, although he's still careful not to give too much away about his past.

Just when things seem to be going well, Rafael is horrified to learn David's true identity as Sheila Canning fills him in on his connection to Paul.

As a rattled Rafael makes a hasty exit, David is baffled and left wondering what he said to offend the mysterious newcomer.

It won't be the last time the pair cross paths, so does this mean that Rafael can look past David's family connections? Or could he even use David as a pawn in his plans against Paul? All will be revealed!

Speaking about Rafael's on-screen relationship, Ryan Thomas – who plays him – recently told us: "The character is very deep and very troubled. He's an emotional rollercoaster of a character, so I think he's caught off guard with any relationship. Rafael has never really had a relationship, so he's not been in touch with his own feelings before. I don't think he's worked out who he is or what he is.

"I think it's all caught him a little bit off guard and he's struggling to channel his feelings in the right way. I hope you'll see that with the stress that Rafael goes through with his emotions and his feelings towards another character in the show."

Digital Spy article:

Neighbours' Rafael Humphreys gets caught out after nearly killing Leo Tanaka.

Mishti demands answers down at the police station.

http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/neighbours/news/a852014/neighbours-spoilers-rafael-humphreys-caught-out/

Neighbours schemer Raael Humphreys faces a police quiz next week, as Mishti Sharma realises that he's to blame for nearly getting Leo Tanaka killed.

As we've previously revealed, Rafael (Ryan Thomas) is about to team up with Sue Parker and her son Jayden as they try to bring down Paul Robinson once and for all.

Targeting the Robinson Heights building site, the scheming trio arrange for an "accident" that will destroy Paul's reputation.

Although they don't intend for anyone to get hurt, their antics lead to a concrete slab falling on Leo in dramatic scenes.

Next week's episodes see Aaron Brennan (Matt Wilson) realise that Rafael may have something to hide when he gets suspicious over the British tourist's shifty behaviour.

Worried that David Tanaka is being played for a fool by Rafael, a protective Aaron searches through the newcomer's belongings at the backpackers.

When Aaron finds Sue's business card, he demands to know why Rafael would be in contact with a woman who's known for hating Paul.

Rafael tries to flee rather than explain himself, but when Aaron gives chase, he grabs hold of Raf's t-shirt and accidentally exposes his terrible scarring.

With another clue to Rafael's troubled past, Aaron then shares his suspicions with Mishti, who soon puts two and two together and realises who's to blame for what happened to Leo.

As Mishti extracts full confessions from Rafael, Jayden and Sue, it's a troubling time for Paul and his family as they find out about his supposed involvement in the fire that killed Raf's mother.

Can Paul find a way to clear his name? And what does the future hold for Rafael?

Neighbours airs these scenes on Wednesday, March 21 and Thursday, March 22 at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.

Radiotimes.com article:

Neighbours airs Ryan Thomas’s final scenes next week.

Raf makes an emotional exit from Erinsborough.

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2018-03-26/neighbours-airs-ryan-thomass-final-scenes-next-week/

Neighbours’ Rafael Humphries departs Erinsborough next week, marking the end of ex-Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas’s guest stint.

Raf came to Ramsay Street seeking revenge on Paul Robinson, believing he was responsible for the fire that killed his mother many years earlier in Brazil when the bad boy businessman was based there.

After weeks of secret sabotage, and a blossoming romance with Mr Robinson’s son David Tanaka, his vendetta was revealed but it turns out Paul is innocent of the crime and Raf has targeted the wrong man.

Next week, David presents his boyfriend with the evidence exonerating Paul, but instead of a sense of closure Rafael explains he is still on a mission to get justice for his mum from whoever was to blame. Announcing he’s returning to the UK to help police continue their search for Dakota Davies, Paul’s associate from Brazil who holds the key to the mystery, Raf breaks David’s heart as he bids farewell.

Telling Mr Tanaka to go after ex-lover Aaron Brennan, Raf leaves town as reflective David considers whether there could be hope for him and his old flame after all…

Neighbours airs Rafael’s exit on Monday 2 April at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5
