CORONATION Street viewers were left confused over the introduction of a surprise new cast member during Monday's episode.
The bewilderment occurred as Michelle Connor and boyfriend Robert Preston sat down to enjoy a glass of wine after a tumultuous few days.
The couple have been under an enormous strain after a series of attacks, thought to be carried out by Robert’s nemesis Rich.
And after Robert got home from sorting out Michelle’s car, which had earlier been broken into, she informed him that she was planning on visiting her friend Lucy in Leeds.
Robert then asked off he could accompany her on her trip, with a bemused Michelle saying: “you hate Lucy!”
As Robert tried to protest his innocence, ,Michelle quipped: “You said she’s got an annoying laugh, sounds like a donkey on speed!”
The couple laughed at the humorous comparison, however, Coronation Street viewers at him were simply left confused.
Several immediately took to Twitter to ask who this unexpected character was as they’ve never heard either of them mention Lucy before.
“I don't remember ever seeing or ever hearing of anyone called Lucy before. #Corrie,” commented one viewer.
While another asked: “Who's Lucy?? Do we know Lucy?? @itvcorrie I'm sure she's great and her laugh is great #Corrie.”
A third fan observed: “And now Michelle has a friend Lucy in Leeds. This storyline is FULL of revelations. #corrie.”
