Joan Collins has turned down an offer to appear in Coronation Street.

The actress was approached by the soap's producers, who hoped to match successful appearances by Lord of the Rings star Sir Ian McKellen and comedian Peter Kay.

Collins eventually decided against a role on the show, as she wasn't willing to endure the long hours required.

"I'm at an age when I can choose what I want to do and only do things I want," she told The Mirror. "Soap acting is hard work and I don't regret anything I've turned down."

Glad she isn't going to be heading for the cobbles, I like Joan but I feel Corrie writers wouldn't be able to do her justice at this time, her career would be ruined.

shes too good for corrie, good job she didnt come into it

she should be in eastenders if any soap, it can happen cus kate o maras appearance in family affairs was brillaint, and i had my doubts to begin with

who do corrie think they are? getting viwers be stupid cameos rather than brillaint storylines and good acting

Joan Collins has got to be at least as old as the actress who plays Vera! Maybe she could play her twin sister - separated at birth!

i take back comments said about cameos, i agree the peter kay cameo was sheer entertainment from start to end, i had completly forgot about it
