The Carters discover that Ollie's next assessment will be in the New Year. Wanting to ease the load on a worried Linda, Whitney invites the Carters over for Christmas dinner, but Lee can't help worrying about the cost.

Also today, Linda comes up with an idea when Ian once again refuses to donate a tree to the Square.

Finally, the local residents start to embrace Christmas.

When Bex confides in Stacey about Shakil, Stacey betrays her confidence by telling Martin everything. This leads to fireworks when Martin goes after Shakil in the middle of the market, much to Bex's embarrassment and she refuses to talk to her father afterwards. There's also another awkward situation when Louise and Shakil have to kiss as part of the play.

Later, will things get any better when Kush gives Shakil some home truths over the way he's behaved recently?

Meanwhile, Ben tries to make things up with Kathy.

Elsewhere, when the social worker returns to the Mitchell house, Sharon breaks down in front of Jay as she struggles with her ambition to give Phil the perfect Christmas.

Also today, Roxy receives a shock, while Dot turns down an invite to join Abi when she spends Christmas with her mum.

Thursday

Martin tries to cheer up Bex after this week's events, but she refuses to listen to him and storms off.

Stacey has some advice for Bex, but will she listen to it?

Meanwhile, it's the first night of the Walford Christmas Show and there's a sold-out audience eagerly anticipating the performance. Will it go according to plan?

Elsewhere, when Phil drops a bombshell on Billy, Jay witnesses the suspicious conversation. Jay is devastated when he asks Phil for answers and realises what they were talking about.

Also today, Sharon shares a heartfelt plea with Ben, urging him to understand Phil's behaviour and to be there on Christmas Day.

Finally, as Whitney continues to worry about Lee's strange behaviour, he tries to get another loan.

Friday

When Phil suddenly starts acting kind, Ben and Louise are highly confused. Soon afterwards, Phil visits the launderette and Dot urges him to carry on fighting, but he admits that he's had enough now and is ready to die.

Later, Sharon catches Phil as he's about to sneak off and go without saying goodbye. Phil insists that he can't spend Christmas with his family and goes ahead with his plan to leave, ignoring a devastated Sharon's protests.

Meanwhile, the Walford Christmas Show goes out on stage for its second night. Will it go to plan?

Elsewhere, Lee's secrets are becoming increasingly difficult to keep under wraps. Will he finally come clean this Christmas?

Also today, Denise's hopes for a peaceful Christmas with Libby and Patrick don't go exactly to plan when Patrick reveals that he's invited Derek to spend the day with them. Denise is also unhappy when she learns that Kim – who is away on holiday with Vincent – has told their mum about the pregnancy.

Finally, Jack isn't happy when he sees Roxy nursing another hangover.

Monday - Boxing Day

The Beales are celebrating Steven's birthday, but Lauren is stunned when Max texts her to reveal his return and ask her to meet up.

When Lauren asks Jane whether Max can attend Steven's birthday drinks, a nervous Jane is forced to tell Ian what's going on. How will the Beales deal with Max's shock comeback?

Meanwhile, will Lee's secrets be exposed when he finds himself in an impossible situation?

Tuesday

Although Ronnie has insisted that she wants a quiet hen party, she changes her mind and vows to party like the old days. While this should be good news for Roxy, she soon drops a bombshell.

Later, when Roxy looks after Ricky and Amy alone, it doesn't go well and she storms off. With Ronnie frustrated, will she lose faith in her sister?

Friday

Lee finally reaches breaking point as the events of the past few months catch up with him.

Meanwhile, Max's return is continuing to cause tensions on the Square, with Martin among those who aren't happy to see him.

Elsewhere, a high Roxy tries to grab Shrimpy's attention when she spots him dancing with Donna at the party.

Life gets even worse for EastEnders teen Shakil Kazemi as he faces the wrath of Bex Fowler's dad Martin later this month.

The show is lining up an angry showdown between the pair, which is sure to create even more awkwardness for Bex as she finds herself caught in the middle.

Shakil (Shaheen Jafargholi) was left devastated this week as he wrongly feared that Bex was laughing at him after they'd slept together for the first time.

With Shakil unaware that he misinterpreted Bex's giggly conversation with her friend Louise Mitchell, he retaliates by suddenly going cold on their relationship over the coming days.

A heartbroken Bex is left confused about where she stands with Shakil following his frosty behaviour, but things only get worse when she decides to confide in Stacey.

Bex makes the mistake of telling Stacey everything and feels badly betrayed when she immediately reports back to Martin (James Bye).

Fuming over what's gone on, Martin publicly confronts Shakil out on the street and things get very heated. How will Bex feel about her dad's embarrassing behaviour?

EastEnders is lining up a Christmas Day mystery as Albert Square's residents receive some very unexpected deliveries.

The show has revealed that a few of the locals will get suspicious gifts as December 25 commences, leaving them pretty flummoxed.

Adding to the intrigue, the presents are from a "mystery sender" - and for the time being it's anyone's guess as to who could be responsible for the strange turn of events.

EastEnders bosses aren't revealing any more about the presents or the sender, so we'll just have to tune in to find out which Walford locals are involved and what they'll be unwrapping.

Could Phil Mitchell have decided to show some festive spirit by sending out gifts around the Square on what could be his last Christmas?

Is Max Branning teasing his own return by covertly delivering gifts as a clue to his comeback?

Has market trader Shrimpy decided to give himself a second Christmas storyline by purchasing gifts for some of his favourite main characters?

Or could Peggy Mitchell have gone on a spending spree before she died and arranged for the gifts to arrive on Christmas Day?

Probably not for at least a couple of those theories, so your guess is really as good as ours on this one...

EastEnders airs an hour-long special on Christmas Day at 9.30pm on BBC One.

The much-anticipated EastEnders Christmas trailer is here, and it features Max Branning's explosive return.

Max (Jake Wood) has been absent from Walford for over a year – except for a very brief appearance in a taxi – but he's now coming back with a bang in an unmissable Christmas storyline.

The trailer teases the moment Max arrives back on the Square and comes face to face with his former lover Stacey Branning.

The other plot featured heavily in the festive promo is Phil's health taking a further devastating turn, prompting his family to fear they really are losing him forever.

Over the next few days, fans will see Phil (Steve McFadden) stubbornly vow to cut himself off from his family over the festive season, wanting time alone.

He also considers slipping away without even saying goodbye just before Christmas, leaving his struggling wife Sharon devastated.

The trailer – and recent spoiler pictures – show that Phil does have a change of heart and decide to spend the day with his loved ones after all. But they will be left heartbroken when he starts to deteriorate rapidly.

Other standout moments from the trailer include Kush kissing Denise during the festive celebrations and Roxy's rebellious behaviour continuing.

EastEnders will air an hour-long special on Christmas Day at 9.30pm on BBC One.

That's true lol, there are a lot of complaints from the types of EE fans who want non-stop plot driven nonsense. SOC has concentrated on character repair and development so far and things have been much quieter than under DTC, but as far as I'm concerned the quality has been far superior.

SOC said there's lots of drama in store in the interview I posted on the Michelle Fowler thread so hopefully the moaners will be happier!

These latest episodes have been great. Love the fact the drama was low key yesterday, not all guns blazing. But maybe I'm the odd one out lol

You're not the odd one out here! :)

The ratings haven't gone down either despite a vocal minority bitterly complaining and demanding SOC's head on a platter. :wall:
