CORRIE viewers will be left in shock next year when an explosive arson attack sees character Kevin Webster’s garage devastated by flames.

Kevin Webster’s garage has been a key feature of Coronation Street for 20 years
The surrounding houses will all be evacuated amid fears that stacks of petrol inside the garage will explode with devastating consequences.

And sources revealed tonight that the fire will be investigated by police after officers discover CCTV footage is missing.

One source said: “Kate Oates, the executive producer, wants to start the New Year with a real bang, and this fire will certainly achieve that end.

But the garage is set to meet its end next year when it goes up in falmes
“A huge amount of work is going into making this a stunt that is really explosive and hooks fans in.

“The drama will begin when the garage flames are spotted, and mayhem breaks out, with people screaming and buildings being evacuated.

“All of the customers in The Bistro and surrounding houses spill out into the Street as firefighters arrive and battle to control the situation.

“The fear is of course that in a building with so much petrol in it, the potential for tragedy is huge.”

Mass panic will ensue amongst the street’s residents with several building’s also being evacuated
After the blaze, Kevin (Michael Le Vell) will be left with his business in tatters.

And he faces yet another blow when the police reveal they suspect arson.

The source went on: “As the police are investigating the cause of the fire, they find that a laptop containing CCTV footage has been stolen.

“That triggers their suspicion that the fire was a deliberate attempt to ruin Kevin financially.

“The story line that follows their investigation is set to be a very gripping one, and will lead to twists and turns that viewers will not see coming.”

Previous Corrie stunts include the tram crash that killed Ashley Peacock, Molly Dobbs in 2010 and an explosion that saw Anna Windass engulfed in flames this year.

A Corrie spokeswoman said tonight: “We do not comment on storylines.”

Crickey! An actual explosive event! It probably really will shake the cobbles!

And sources revealed tonight that the fire will be investigated by police

That's a relief for the perpetrators then. No chance of them being found out if the Corrie Police (aka the World's worst police force) are investigating.

I also immediately thought of Phelan.

I can't say I'm looking forward to this if the standard of writing plumbs the same depths as in recent Corrie storylines.

Coronation Street boss Kate Oates has teased big stories for newcomer Shona Ramsey, Erica Holroyd, Pat Phelan and Eva Price as the show heads through the spring and into the summer.

Along with a new Rovers owner, a big plot for the Barlows and some exciting returns, Erica could find her relationship with Dev in trouble - and Maria and Aidan look set to reignite their affair.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Kate Oates said: "Shona's secret will be coming out soon - viewers won't have long to wait to see her true colours! She has a scamp quality to her, but a good heart. There's tragedy in her past, though, and she may have brutal choices in store."

Discussing what's ahead in the ongoing Eva, Aidan and Maria love triangle, Kate added: "Aidan has let Maria down, and she's furious. The problem is, Eva's been so good to Maria - so is Maria's anger with Aidan enough to make her hurt Eva, too?

"The other issue, though, is that the attraction between Aidan and Maria is still strong. This is an old-fashioned love triangle, and there's a chance Aidan and Maria will restart their affair. So when Eva finds out, she's going to be mad! The question is, where will she channel that anger and who will be in her firing line?"

Kate also confirmed that Pat's reign of terror will continue for some time, with some big plot twists keeping viewers on the edges of their seats until well into the autumn.

"There's major stuff coming up for Phelan and Eileen, and I'm very excited about it," she said. There'll be some twists along the way that will really keep the audience gripped, and take them on an exciting journey.

"Phelan fans should definitely keep watching - this story will be ramping up later in the summer, and well into the autumn. Eileen's son Todd will try hard to protect his mum as he's already on to Phelan, which can only be good."

And finally, it looks like Erica Holroyd may finally be getting a big story, with Kate teasing: "Dev is going to take Erica for granted, and that will be his major problem. I don't think Erica is used to being taken for granted, and she may react badly - so watch out, Dev! This woman was Kim Tate!"

Coronation Street could be welcoming back some familiar faces as part of a big new storyline for the Barlows.

The ITV soap's boss Kate Oates has teased huge drama ahead for the iconic Weatherfield family, which will see them brought to the forefront of the show over the coming months.

"The Barlows are about to face some big challenges, but there'll be a few fun twists as well - and maybe one or more old faces returning," Kate said to Inside Soap.

"The whole family are huge personalities, and they will be front and centre in the coming weeks. There is a very long story coming up very soon for the Barlows.

"Ken is our big patriarch, but he's the world's worst father and grandfather. He's been terrible with his kid, yet people look up to him and respect him. How everything pans out is going to be really interesting."

Kate has also recently hinted at dark times ahead for the Barlows - and Ken in particular - teasing that his shortcomings as a father and grandfather will come back to haunt him this spring.

"Ken's been an absolutely rubbish father and grandfather," she told Soaplife. "Ironically, he's been the best parent to Tracy and she's not even his.

"Anyway, Ken's increasingly ill-judged attempts at parenting and grandparenting will come back to bite him this spring."

Coronation Street has really ramped up the drama and tension over the last year, with bubbling sagas just aching to explode and a huge range of characters becoming involved in all kinds of stories from the heartstopping to the hilarious and from the tragic to the titillating.
The action in Weatherfield isn’t about to slow down any time soon either – in fact, if anything, it’s actually going to step up a gear. With action packed returns, families torn apart, secrets exposed and favourite characters making big departures, there’s a lot going down.
Here is an in depth roundup on what you can expect to see over the spring and summer months in Coronation Street.

Goodbye Nick!

The end is nigh for Nick – and his departure is bound to be tied in with the ongoing tension between himself and Leanne over Steve getting access to Olly. Nick is dead set against Steve having anything to do with the baby and it will be the source of new heartbreak for the pair as they grow apart. Then, of course, there is an upcoming dalliance between Nick and Michelle that naturally won’t help matters.

Coronation Street spoiler: Nick Tilsley reunites with Carla Connor as Ben Price exits the soap?
With devastation on the horizon, it remains to be seen how Nick will say goodbye. But Kate Oates, Corrie’s producer, teased to Inside Soap: ‘It’s always sad when a stalwart decides to go but it will give us some great drama. There will be a nice change in dynamic as Leanne will have to cope with being a single parent for a while.’

Rob breaks free

There’s a massive shock in store for Tracy as Rob Donovan will emerge from prison in an action packed storyline that will lead to a siege at a farmhouse. As armed police close in, how has Rob got himself out of jail, what are his plans and what new horrors might he bring to Tracy and the rest of the Street this time?

The Barlows in meltdown

The rest of the Barlow family are facing huge tension and with the family divided against each other from Adam’s recent criminal activities through to Sinead and Daniel’s baby tragedy, the clan is in meltdown.
Kate teased: The Barlows are about to face some big challenges but there’ll be a few fun twists as well – and maybe one or more old faces returning. There’s a long story coming up for the Barlows! Ken is our big patriarch on the Street but he’s the world’s worst father and grandfather. How everything pans out is going to be really interesting…’
Michelle and Robert get it together
Now that Michelle and Steve are officially over, sparks will fly between Michelle and Robert, who has already declared his love. But is Robert a rebound, a revenge relationship or will Michelle develop genuine feelings for him as he continues to support her?
Kate shared: ‘He’s behaved impeccably around Michelle which I think is quite sexy – and Michelle will see that. However, there will be challenges within their relationship. A chef’s life is hard and you have to be very ruthless. While we have seen that Robert is ultimately a good person, we are also fully aware that he can be reckless – and he’s definitely ambitious. I’m looking forward to exploring different sides to Robert as his and Michelle’s relationship continues to develop.’

Bethany’s horror

Bethany’s ordeal is set to continue at a slow and careful pace as Coronation Street explores and raises awareness of the dark issue of sexual exploitation. Unaware of Nathan’s sinister intentions, groomed teen Bethany will fall deeper into his trap and with desperately devastating scenes ahead, things are going to get worse.
Can anyone save her before something even more terrible happens or is there a shattering fate in store for Bethany?
Terrifying twists for Sally
Usually utilised as a comedy character, Sally is about to face dark times as everything she has worked for and gained over recent years comes under threat. The terrifying situation will bring hardships for her and Tim but may also see a face from the past return as Rosie and Sophie set out to track down a relative.
What is Shona’s secret?
Shona’s secret has been bubbling under the surface for some time, with fans speculating all sorts from her being related to Kylie through to her having some sort of vengeful grudge against the Platts.
In coming weeks, the truth about Shona will be revealed but Kate assured fans that ‘she has a good heart’ beneath the tragedy that she has faced and the tough choices she will be handed.

Peter’s stalking drama

It doesn’t take a genius to notice that Chloe’s intense interest in Peter is far from a healthy one and in coming scenes, she will become the bane of his life when she arrives in Weatherfield and takes an interest in buying the Rovers – before then lying that they have been having an affair!
Will Chloe’s actions lead to Toyah ending things with Peter?

Goodbye Freddie

Freddie is set to make his departure from the Street in coming weeks but what will his exit mean for Audrey, who held a torch for him, and the garage where he works? It remains to be seen how Freddie says goodbye.

A blast from the past for Faye

Everything will change for Faye when she comes face to face with her daughter Miley and the child’s father Jackson at the hospital. As Faye, who has matured since giving up Mily, is thrown back into her child’s world, where will this leave jealous Seb?
Anna is delighted to be able to banish Seb from Faye’s life as she gets to know Miley again – but will Seb take this lying down?
What does Phelan do next?

He’s scammed, he’s lied, he’s blackmailed and he’s killed but don’t expect Phelan’s reign of terror to end any time soon. Despite many fans desperately aching for his comeuppance, Phelan has quite the fanbase and we can’t get enough of his antics on the Street.

Major twists ahead for Pat Phelan – will he kill again?

But could Todd be his eventual downfall?
Kate revealed: ‘There’s major stuff coming up for Phelan and Eileen and I’m very excited about it. There’ll be some twists along the way that will really keep the audience gripped and take them on an exciting journey. The story will be ramping up later in the summer and well into the autumn. Todd will try hard to protect his mum and he’s already on to Phelan, which can only be good!’

Under new management!

With the McDonalds putting the Rovers up for sale in the wake of Steve and Michelle’s split, it has been confirmed that there will indeed be a new landlord or landlady – but who will be behind the bar still remains a secret.
Kate said: ‘There’s going to be a new name above the door of the Rovers – there are big changes in store. Peter has talked about buying it and Chloe has just made her move – but will it be either of their offers that goes through or will a new face be moving in? I’m just going to tease that one for the time being…’

Wedding drama

Jenny is looking to the future as she and Johnny set the date for a summer wedding – but do they both want the same thing from their big day and will it all go to plan?
Kate teased: ‘Johnny is going to wonder if he is the best person for Jenny. He adores her, despite her faults, and these concerns only come form a place of absolute love. However, Jenny might not understand his motives!
‘We know that she loves the power, the status, living in Victoria Court and lording it over the factory girls – but pride comes before a fall! That kind of lifestyle is everything Jenny wants, although whether it’s what she ends up getting is another question.’

Mary’s second reunion?

Last year, Mary’s life changed forever when she was reunited with her long lost son Jude – she almost even moved away with him to the other side of the world before having a last minute change of heart. That story is set to be revisited later this year – will Jude pay another visit and perhaps bring his family this time? And will it be as joyful of an occasion for Mary the second time?

Look out Dev!

Dev and Erica have been somewhat quiet and fans have expressed concern that the legendary Claire King is not getting much screentime. But as Dev starts to take his girlfriend for granted, we could be about to see a much fiercer side to Erica – and it could cause big problems for the corner shop king.
As Erica has enough and react badly, will Dev regret his actions?

Eva learns the truth?

The bubbling affair between Aidan and Maria could well be revisited as their feelings return to the surface but it might finally be time for Eva to discover the truth – get set for an epic showdown!
Kate shared: ‘This is an old fashioned love triangle and there’s a chance Aidan and Maria will restart their affair so when Eva finds out, she is going to be mad! The question is, where will she channel that anger and who will be in her firing line?’

What else?

Todd and Billy’s lives could be set to change forever when a surprising turn of events throws up a brand new challenge.
Mary and Norris will continue to be the face of comedy as their friendship deepens while Mary will also reach out to Bethany.
Gail is set to be left heartbroken by the exit of Nick – and with Bethany’s dark situation, how will she cope as her family falls apart again?
Steve wants to step up and be a proper dad to Olly – in the wake of Nick’s exit, might Leanne let him in to be a bigger part of his son’s life?
Damaged by Sharif’s actions, Zeedan and Alya have some interesting scenes coming up. And we may get a deeper insight into Rana too – why has this previously flighty woman settled for married life and what secrets lie in her past?
Chesney’s heart continues to break as he watches Sinead and Daniel continue their relationship – but a romance with Gemma has been ruled out.
Rosie is about to get a surprising new job as part of a business but will she make a success of it?
Brian and Cathy grow closer but as Brian worries about upsetting Roy, could the new relationship affect their bromance?
As Corrie moves to six weekly episodes, be prepared to welcome new characters and a whole new set including another street and a police station.

Could you tell us the source for these cast changes Perdita?

I googled as I wanted to see what information there was about Rosie Webster (my cousin can't stand her and would be delighted to hear that she is leaving.) So far she's definitely on screen until next year due to extending her original contract to a year, but I can't find any articles to say that she is leaving at that point.

Phelan being Seb's grandad does feel farfetched so I would be happy if it turned out to be wrong (and obviously the Nathan part too.)

Coronation Street producer Kate Oates has been teasing a huge autumn in Weatherfield, including a stunt-filled wedding.

That wedding, of course, is between Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) and Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward), which kicks off an action-packed week when Corrie starts airing its sixth episode on Wednesday, September 20.

Aidan confesses his affair with Maria (Samia Longchambon) on the morning of his wedding – talk about bad timing – which leads to Maria gatecrashing the wedding and one of the most stunt-filled ceremonies the cobbles have ever seen, including that Eva v Maria fight in the fountain that was teased last month.

"Our first week is truly, I think, unmissable. An epic week of heartstopping drama, heartbreaking emotion and heartwarming comedy," enthused executive producer Kieran Roberts.

But that's not the only wedding in Weatherfield, as Johnny and Jenny's wedding is put in doubt when Rita's health takes a turn for the worse and she's hospitalised, with Jenny refusing to leave Rita's side.

Away from the wedding drama, newcomer Colin (Jim Moir) arrives on the cobbles and it quickly becomes clear that he's not all that he seems, while Michelle seemingly discovers that her ex-boyfriend Will is her stalker.

Oates also revealed that autumn will be "really big for a few character groups" after the soap made a point of ensuring Corrie had continuing storylines for all residents of Weatherfield.

As well as the fall-out from Phelan's cellar guest being revealed, Oates also hinted that Bethany's ordeal is far from over as her abusers face a trial.

"It's a huge deal for a girl of her age and position to face not one, but several perpetrators and all of their barristers," she explained.

"We still have the issue of Mel to consider, Nathan has a little friend in Mel who has had her brain well and truly washed by him and she is very much on the outside, keen to make sure Bethany doesn't get to court, so the question is will Nathan ever face justice?"

Coronation Street Christmas 2017 plotlines revealed by show boss Kate Oates!

From Carla's comeback to Steve and Tracy's festive romance, plus a surprise for Bethany
With just under a month to go until Christmas Day, we thought we’d give Coronation Street fans a treat by catching up with show boss Kate Oates, so she could share her festive highlights. In this first-look peek at Christmas on Corrie, the soap producer teases the season’s biggest plotlines, from Carla’s return to Steve and Tracy’s surprise romance…
Carla’s comeback
“Our Coronation Street Christmas present is, of course, the return of Carla Connor, complete with leopard-skin coat and plenty of secrets to unwrap over the festive season. Usually no stranger to a bottle of red wine, Carla is now sticking to soft drinks, but why? And will she help Aidan out in his time of crisis?”
The Barlows discover Billy’s secret?
“Billy’s halo has become just a little bit tarnished over winter thanks to details of his shady past coming to light. As we’ve just seen on screen, he was actually responsible for the death of Susan Barlow (whatever happened to Thou Shalt Not Kill, Billy?). And let’s just say that this particular secret could well spread down to Number One…”
Steve and Tracy cuddle up
“We’re also going to give Steve some happiness. Well, happiness may be pushing it slightly, but he will be waking up on Christmas morning with Tracy Barlow. Not that Amy and Simon are all that pleased at this joyful union – in fact, they’re going to do their best to make sure they never get back together, the killjoys.”
Happiness for Bethany and Craig?
“In news that should gladden the heart of even the most Scrooge-like curmudgeon – Bethany will embark on a tentative romance with Craig. Glad tidings indeed!”
And in other news…
“We’ll also see Brian face arrest, Alya discover a vile truth about a new client, while Toyah frets about her relationship with Peter…”
