Former Loose Women and The Bill star Lisa Maxwell returns to Hollyoaks next month for some dramatic scenes featuring the Donovan family.

Lisa is a recurring guest star on the Channel 4 soap in the role of Tracey Donovan, who's the mother of Grace, Adam, Liam and Jesse.

Tracey heads back to Chester in early December to help celebrate Adam's birthday, but as she's the keeper of some huge family secrets, the big question is whether her presence could do more harm than good. We suspect the former!

As Adam's birthday approaches, he's being particularly cagey with his new love interest Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson). While Maxine is baffled by his behaviour, Liam knows exactly why Adam is being so strange.

Things get worse when Tracey turns up and puts her foot in it by making a comment about Adam (Jimmy Essex) being loved up again after his previous relationship, which is sure to pique Maxine's curiosity.

These new pictures show a very unhappy Maxine confiding in Neeta Kaur about the Adam situation, but is it time to finally get some answers about her boyfriend's past?

Hollyoaks' recently-released winter trailer featured a brief glimpse of a newspaper cutting which revealed that Adam's ex-fiancée Darcey Wilde went missing in suspicious circumstances.

Darcey disappeared as the pair took a romantic boat trip to celebrate Adam's birthday - and he was once the police's prime suspect in the case.

With all of this in mind, it's really no wonder that Adam isn't feeling too great about his latest birthday. And maybe Maxine would be wise to keep digging for information...

Hollyoaks fans should brace themselves for a must-see showdown as Mercedes McQueen finally discovers that Joanne Cardsley was partly to blame for Joe Roscoe's death.

While Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) knows that she can blame the village's recent mystery fire for Joe's demise on that ferris wheel, she's yet to find out the real reason that he was stuck up there in the first place.

Hollyoaks' dramatic Halloween episodes saw Joanne trap Mercedes and Joe on top of the wheel at the Spooktacular, which led to a terrible tragedy when the blaze that had been lit by Cameron Campbell started to spread dangerously.

Although Joanne has managed to keep her involvement a secret, her luck runs out as her behaviour starts to spiral out of control in upcoming episodes.

We've already revealed that Joanne holds Louis Loveday hostage at James Nightingale's flat next week, still determined to win him back at whatever cost.

While we can't give the exact details away, the hostage situation sparks a sequence of events that leads to Mercedes uncovering the truth.

Finally realising there's nothing left for her in Hollyoaks after her encounter with Louis, a sheepish Joanne tries to leave the village. However, she's not quite quick enough to escape Mercedes's wrath.

When Mercedes intercepts Joanne as she's about to leave and reveals that she knows about her stopping the ferris wheel, how will the bunny boiler explain herself?

Tegan is having withdrawal symptoms, and Nick stops her making a dangerous mistake at the hospital. Tegan heads to the drugs cupboard, but Kim is in there too and reveals she's in danger. Later, Nick catches Tegan and thinks she's stealing medication. Leah finds a selfie and text from Goldie on Ryan's phone.
