Channel 5 has today confirmed to BTTB that Home and Away will be taking its usual Christmas break in the UK this year.

Transmission of both Home and Away and Neighbours will break for the festive season on Friday 2nd December, and return on Monday 9th January 2017.

With the UK currently 5 weeks behind Seven Network‘s broadcasts in Australia, the last Home and Away episode of 2016 for Channel 5 viewers will be Episode 6535 — due to air in Australia next week.

As the date of Australian season finale, the length of their summer break, or even whether they’ll show batches of double episodes in the lead up to the finale is currently unknown, we cannot yet say whether the UK transmissions will catch up by any significant margin.

The UK has already gained on Australia by a couple of weeks this year following the Australian Olympic break, and Channel 5 choosing to not take Home and Away off for it’s usual August break has also ensured UK viewers have not fallen behind even further.

We’re not currently aware of any plans to show repeat episodes during the break.

Hi Perdita. Although the dates haven't been confirmed for us over here as yet, as per usual, you would expect that in Australia, the H&A finale will go to air a week or so into December (maybe Dec 7-8? - last year's finale was on Dec 9), & then will be off air for about 7 weeks, & won't recommence on our screens, like you suggest, until after the Aust Open Tennis has concluded i.e. probably coming back on Mon 30 Jan (I see that the article says that H&A will start again in the UK, three weeks before then, on Jan 9). The question for us here in Aust, also like the article mentions, is whether there will be any double/triple episodes towards the end of this season, like last year, - & also to make up for the 2 week break we had over the Olympics period. We will see.

(As for Neighbours, with the article saying that it will also finish in the UK on Dec 2 & recommence on Jan 9, as episodes are now being shown in the UK on the same day as Aust, I would imagine that means it will also be finishing/starting in Aust on those same dates???)
