Coronation Street fans, it's time for the moment we've all been waiting for as Peter Barlow makes his exciting return to Weatherfield.

http://digitalspyuk.cdnds.net/16/40/980x490/landscape-1475838700-soaps-coronation-street-peter-barlow-return-1.JPG

Chris Gascoyne is reprising his role as Peter on a permanent basis, but the reasons for the popular character's comeback will be shrouded in mystery.

When Peter turns up back in Weatherfield, he's sporting a nasty gash to his forehead which doesn't go unnoticed by his eagle-eyed father Ken (Bill Roache).

Fearing that his son is in deep trouble, Ken demands to know what Peter is up to but becomes frustrated when he fails to get a straight answer.

One thing Peter does admit is that he has nowhere to stay after losing his job, so despite his cagey explanations, Ken relents and welcomes him back at Number 1.

The timing couldn't be better as Ken has just started planning a grand tour of Europe's cultural gems, so he tells Peter that he can look after the house in his absence.

Peter is grateful for his dad's support, but surely there's much more to his return than meets the eye? Well, we'll just have to wait and see...

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, October 17 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

Monday 1

David puts his dark plan into action, having found out that Clayton is attending court today. He's planning to drive his car, laden with petrol, to to the courthouse to blow up Clayton - but his revenge plot to kill his enemy is also a suicide mission.

As David waits in his car outside the court, Clayton arrives in a police van. David turns the ignition but the engine fails and he breaks down in frustration.

At the same time, Gail and Nick know they need to act fast and hatch a risky plan to save David from himself, but can they really outsmart him by locking him in the Bistro cellar?

Meanwhile, Ken announces that he leaves for his tour of Europe tomorrow. Tracy is furious, but Amy is impressed at his spontaneity. Later, Ken is surprised when Peter returns to Weatherfield. Spotting the nasty gash on Peter's forehead, Ken wonders what he's been up to but doesn't get a straight answer from his son.

Peter does soon admit that he has nowhere to stay. Ken relents and explains about his trip, adding that Peter is welcome to stay while he's gone. Peter is grateful for his dad's support.

Elsewhere, Steve returns from the hospital having had his genetic test, but is this just the start of Steve's testing time?

Also, Gary confides in Luke, Tyrone and Andy that he fancies Sarah but she rebuffed him. Tyrone reminds him that Sarah is probably preoccupied with Clayton's trial. Will Tyrone's optimism strike a chord with Gary?

Monday 2

David is shocked that Gail and Nick know all about his plan to kill Clayton.

David looks for a way out after being locked in the Bistro cellar, but will he really manage to escape?

Meanwhile, Peter never fails to disappoint Ken.

Elsewhere, Tracy bursts into The Rovers and rails at Steve and Michelle for failing to tell her about Jim's genetic condition. Steve tries to assure her. Michelle is put out to realise that Leanne has told Tracy not only about Jim's illness but about her pregnancy too. With this latest episode, is Steve about to reach breaking point?

Also, Gary leaves a message on Sarah's phone apologising for hassling her earlier and suggesting they meet up. With enough on Sarah's plate, will she take up Gary's offer?

Wednesday

Gail and Nick are taken aback when Robert confronts them over the situation at the Bistro, demanding to know what's going on. As David reaches the end of the duct he's using to make his escape, he's devastated to find a grill over the exit and lets out a yowl of frustration.

Hearing David's noises, Gail and Nick have no choice but to come clean with Robert. Robert listens with incredulity as they explain David's plans to kill Clayton and how they're holding him hostage to prevent this. As they beg Robert to keep quiet, will David find a way to escape and put his plan into action?

Meanwhile, Peter blames himself for recent events.

Elsewhere, Michelle tears a strip off Leanne for breaking her trust and blabbing to Tracy. How will Leanne worm her way out of this one?

Also, clearly upset, Beth tells Mary how she's supposed to be starting her community service but wants to lend her support to Craig as he's giving evidence in court today. As Gemma and Craig wait nervously to be called into court, will Beth arrive in time?

Elsewhere, masquerading as Beth, Mary dons an orange tabard and does Beth's community payback to allow Beth to go to court and support Craig.

As Craig enters the witness box, he's buoyed to see Beth in the public gallery. But Mary finds herself in hot water when the community supervisor asks Mary to sign Beth's work sheet. How will she get out of this one?

Why is Tracy mad at Peter?? Taking away attention she was getting from Ken? Or it has something to do with the reason for his return

How is Clayton getting off with Kylie's murder?

How is Clayton getting off with Kylie's murder? I think manslaughter is actually the correct charge because he never intended to kill Kylie ... unless the law has changed to charge everyone carrying a knife and using it in an assault with murder now

I might be getting confused but I remember doing some reading back when we were discussing Bobby Beale and his killing of Lucy. As far as I can recall, if you kill somebody when deliberately trying to harm them then it's murder. It doesn't matter if there was no intention to actually kill them. I think if you kill someone when there was no intent to cause harm, then it's manslaughter. Obviously it's more complicated than that and I might be completely misremembering (I can't be bothered to research it at the moment though lol).

Perhaps in Clayton's case the CPS would have agreed to accept a guilty plea to manslaughter because of his age and other mitigating circumstances? Knowing Corrie we won't be given any details...

Coronation Street's Gail Rodwell fears she's killed her own son David next week, as her plan to keep him prisoner starts to backfire in dramatic scenes.

Gail (Helen Worth) has been left horrified by the discovery that David is planning to kill Clayton Hibbs and himself, setting the stage for an explosive set of episodes.

Friday's episodes saw Gail stumble across a deeply upsetting suicide video that David (Jack P Shepherd) had recorded for his kids, wanting to explain his drastic actions.

David is planning to douse a car with petrol, drive it to the court building on the day of Clayton's trial and blow it up - killing them both in the process.

Desperate to stop him, Gail teams up with Sarah and Nick to lock David in the Bistro cellar until Clayton's trial is over and done with.

Unfortunately for the Platts, David will stop at nothing to get out of that cellar and carry out his murderous scheme as planned.

When all suddenly goes quiet behind the locked door, Gail's resolve breaks and she bursts into the room to check on her troubled son.

Much to Gail's horror, David is lying motionless and bleeding on the stone floor, leaving her fearing that she's killed him.

Is this the end of David's plan, or will he break free to cause chaos in Weatherfield?
