Hollyoaks' big stunts can make us jump at the best of times - who can forget Maddie Morrison's death by mini-bus door?

But it sounds like this year's big autumn spectacle will have an extra fright factor, as show bosses have decided to centre the storyline around a Halloween party that's sure to go horribly wrong.

Hollyoaks' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood announced the news at a press event for the show yesterday (August 17), confirming that it'll be part of an unmissable autumn season.

He confirmed: "Love is in the air with a double McQueens wedding in October.

"But happiness will be fleeting for some as we head towards the autumn stunt, which this year will be set at a Halloween party with a maze - not of the variety that you would want to get lost in."

More details about the storyline will be revealed nearer the time, but we're already intrigued. Hollyoaks has a strong reputation for Halloween fright nights (remember Silas killing Heidi in 2011?), so we're expecting big things.

Digital Spy brought you the first gossip about the autumn stunt earlier this week, confirming that it will take place somewhere outside the village - placing the local residents in unfamiliar territory.

Returnee Jude Cunningham (Davinia Taylor) will also be closely involved in the action, so let's hope she doesn't regret paying her first visit to Chester in 18 years. We're pretty sure it won't be quite like our mock-up at the top of the page, but you never know!

As per annual tradition, Hollyoaks is set to air a massive stunt, and we now have our first glimpse of this year's spectacular.

Although specific details have been kept largely under wraps, we already know that we are in for a Halloween fright fest involving a maze.

In brand new on-set pictures, we can see some of the characters that will get caught up in events, including Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe), who is pushing a pram at a fairground.

With Myra (Nicole Barber-Lane) pregnant at the moment, could it be her mum's baby that Mercy is looking after?

There's also a picture of Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) and Ryan Knight (Duncan James) being directed on set.

We have also been given a look at a Halloween party with Ryan, who is with Tegan Lomax (Jessica Ellis) and a few others.

Bosses have already said that the storyline will focus on a Halloween party that looks to go wrong.

We know that Jude Cunningham (Davinia Taylor) is coming back and will be involved in the action, and we are hoping that she doesn't end up regretting her first visit to Chester in 18 years.

The stunt will also be related to Patrick's murder case, with Sienna being wrongly charged this week despite realising it was daughter Nico's doing.

Hollyoaks bosses have been forced to deny allegations that an upcoming storyline, focussing on dangerous events at a fairground, is insensitive to victims of the Alton Towers 'Smiler' accident.

Here's how it all went down...

Earlier today, The Sun suggested that sources on the Channel 4 soap complained about the story, reasoning that airing it would be disrespectful to victims injured from when 'The Smiler' crashed in June 2015.

Vicky Balch, 20, Leah Washington, 18, Joe Pugh, 19, and Daniel Thorpe, 28, were all seriously injured when a carriage on the rollercoaster collided with an empty car.

Among the most serious injuries, dancer Vicky lost a leg while Leah also had to have part of her leg amputated above the knee.

But, speaking to Digital Spy, representatives from the soap insisted that the comparison between the storyline and real-life crash is inaccurate as 'no accident or injury is caused by the ride' during the stunt.

"Hollyoaks' autumn stunt is set in a Halloween festival and features a maze and a Ferris Wheel," they said.

"Due to villainous characters running amok in the fairground several villagers will find themselves in jeopardy in various locations. There is no accident or injury caused by the ride.

"The event, filmed entirely on set, is the climax of several long-running stories and is entirely fictional. We are unaware of any concerns around the filming, which has completed."

Pictures from the upcoming stunt surfaced on Friday (September 9), and appear to show a glimpse of which characters will be caught up in the events.

These include Myra, Mercedes and Warren Fox, who all seem at risk when a Halloween party they are attending goes horribly wrong.
