Is EastEnders killing off Ben Mitchell?

That's the devastating possibility that his loved ones have to consider next week, when they hear that his life is hanging in the balance in hospital.

It all kicks off when Ben's half-brother Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) answers Kathy's phone at home and hears that the teen has critical injuries after being involved in an incident.

Kathy is nowhere to be found as she's spending a romantic night away with her new lover Buster Briggs, but Ian rushes to Phil's house and they race off to the hospital together.

Monday

Ian answers Kathy's phone and hears the horrifying news that Ben is in hospital with critical injuries after being involved in an incident.

Kathy is nowhere to be found, but Ian rushes to Phil's house and they race off to the hospital together. After a long wait, the doctor breaks the devastating news to Ian, Phil and Steven that Ben is dead.

At the same time, Kathy and Buster have spent the night in a hotel together.

When Kathy arrives back on the Square, she bumps straight into Shirley, who breaks the news that Ben is in hospital. Kathy's world crumbles when Steven then calls and reveals that Ben has died.

Meanwhile, Whitney is hoping to tell Lee that she's pregnant, but she keeps missing her moment as he gets distracted. There's another interruption when Johnny reveals that he's passed his exams, much to the delight of the Carters.

After leaving the pub in frustration, Whitney confides in Lauren at the cafe about her struggle to tell Lee the news. This leaves Lauren to wonder whether it's time to tell her the truth about Lee and Abi. However, they're interrupted when a suspicious Linda arrives, having realised something is amiss. Whitney confirms to an overjoyed Linda that she is pregnant.

Elsewhere, Pam tells Les that she still wants to tell Paul the truth about Jenny.

Also today, Belinda undertakes some market research for her new salon.


Tuesday

The Mitchell family are thrown into turmoil.

Meanwhile, Mick realises that Linda is hiding something and it doesn't take her long to reveal Whitney's pregnancy joy.

Desperate to tell Lee, Whitney throws a romantic meal and breaks the news to him. Before he can even react, Mick and Linda interrupt and celebrate.


Thursday

It's a testing time for the residents of Albert Square, as one family's world is shattered into pieces.

The local residents also struggle to come to terms with the devastating events.


Friday

Lee arranges a doctor's appointment for Whitney, but he tells his family that they want to keep the pregnancy news quiet for the time being. However, the pressure grows for Lee when Lauren warns him that she knows what happened with Abi.

Word of Whitney's pregnancy soon starts to spread despite Lee's wishes. By the time Whitney and Lee return from the doctor's, Shirley, Tina and Patrick are already having celebratory drinks upstairs.

Meanwhile, Lee overhears Donna telling Kim that she is putting having a baby on hold for the time being.

Donna explains that she will struggle alone and needs the dad to be fully committed to the baby, giving Lee doubts about his own situation.

I think you might be right. Sounds like whoever is dead dies off-screen, they wouldn't do an off-screen death for Ben. But an off-screen death works if its the wrong body.
