View Full Version : David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden)
From Digital Spy
Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has said that his life completely changed after landing a role on the ITV1 soap.
The actor, who has played Eric Pollard's estranged son David Metcalfe since 2006, revealed that he had struggled to adjust to his new-found fame.
He told the Press Association: "When I first started, I sat down with John Middleton, who plays Ashley. He said, 'When does your character first appear? Are you prepared for your life to change?' I always remember him saying that.
"It changes your life and your friends and families' lives as well. You can't go out without people wanting your picture on their camera phone. In the supermarket you constantly get people asking if you're 'that bloke off Emmerdale'."
He added: "You're on a soap and you're getting between six and eight million people watching a night. But you forget how many people watch it. I went to Las Vegas on holiday and had English people coming up for autographs."
Wolfenden also revealed that he recently signed a new contract to appear on the Yorkshire-based soap until December.
Well, I hope they do something with his character for the rest of this year, his character has not inspired me too much so far.
Emmerdale stars Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden have shared some happy news, announcing that they are expecting their second child together.
The Debbie Dingle actress confirmed the news on Twitter, sharing an image of herself and Wolfenden with their son Buster.
The adorable family snap sees Buster, born in 2010, with a sign reading: "Only child expiring: December 2015." She captioned the image: "Here we go again #babynumber2."
Wolfenden shared the same message, later thanking fans for their responses: "Wow.... Overwhelmed by all the congrats tweets!! Thank you so much we are sooooooo excited!!"
Last year, the actor admitted that he was "desperate for a little girl", adding that he wanted to have "tonnes of kids".
Wolfenden and Webb first started dating in 2008. They were engaged but split in 2013, later reuniting after they had remained friends.
So Debbie will have to be written out when she starts maternity leave and I guess this is the reason David Metcalf will also leave for a while, probably when Alicia has been written out
I didn't realise they were back together??!! congrats to them both
Don't think they were apart for very long ....

Despite just having baby number two, it seems Emmerdale stars Matthew Wolfenden and Charley Webb want to keep the "ball rolling".
The couple, who star as David Metcalfe and Debbie Dingle on the soap, have two sons already, Buster and most recently baby Bowie.
Matthew opened up about being parents and the tiring ordeal of feeding their children early in the morning to The Mirror.
"That's why I thought, 'While we are still pretty knackered now we might as well go for number three and keep that knackeredness ball rolling'," he admitted.
He also revealed that the couple hoped to marry at some point: "We just keep on having kids and it gets in the way. Charley doesn't want to be pregnant as she walks down the aisle."
David is currently involved in a storyline revolving around testicular cancer on Emmerdale, with Matthew saying that "if one person checks themselves, finds a lump, gets treated and survives, we will have done a good job".
Emmerdale's David Metcalfe could be heading down the aisle again as he becomes determined to tie the knot with Tracy Shankley.
David, who is currently battling cancer, will pop the question to Tracy later this summer - but he won't find it easy to convince her that they should settle down so quickly.
Emmerdale's producer Iain MacLeod revealed: "A couple that are coming over really well on screen at the moment are David and Tracy. I'm really proud of the way we've told David's cancer story with a bit of humour. We've also told it in a way of 'real life goes on'.
"It's not been scene after scene of his treatment. He's had to be a parent to Jacob, he's had to deal with the fact he's falling in love with Tracy and it's just a gorgeous story.
"We've got this really fun thing going on where David, in a moment of insanity, proposes to Tracy. In a moment of sanity she says 'are you kidding me? We've only just got together like a week ago!'"

MacLeod continued: "David decides to try and wear her down, so he's going to propose to her once a day until she decides to say yes. We've had aeroplanes out skywriting, we've had Marlon spelling out 'marry me' in balsamic glaze on the side of a plate, we've had people proposing on the radio half way through scenes.
"We're just trying to have as much fun with it as we can - the idea being that she's going to make him wait because it's a ridiculous proposal.
"But the more he tries and the more outlandish they get, the more she kind of falls in love with him. We're ending up perhaps with her never actually saying yes, but maybe secretly she maybe wants to and it's a case of what happens next?"

Emmerdale bosses have decided to split up David and Tracy Metcalfe for the foreseeable future.
The troubled pair go their separate ways for good next week, as Tracy finally finds out about David cheating on her with his ex-fiancée Leyla Harding.
Upcoming episodes see Tracy grow suspicious that David has reignited his relationship with Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade) now that they've separated.
When Tracy confronts David over getting back with his ex, he jumps to the wrong conclusions and thinks that she's referring to Leyla rather than Priya.
As the Metcalfes talk at cross purposes, it's not long before the full truth comes out about David's cheating – leading to the end of their marriage in dramatic scenes.
Amy Walsh, who plays Tracy, told us: "It all comes out about David sleeping with Leyla. He's done that and still judged Tracy for her past. There is no going back in Tracy's head after that.
"One of the lines she says is: 'The worst thing in all of this is that you made me feel like I am the dirty one, that I have something to be ashamed of and that I wasn't worthy of you. But actually you're not worthy of me'.
"He's sneaky, he's conniving and everyone thinks he's this great guy. Tracy can't bear that. She's sick of everyone thinking he's this amazing guy."
Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David, added: "They're definitely not getting back together for at least the next year. There is talk that maybe they will down the line, but it definitely won't be for the next year.
"Also what will happen then is Roxy Shahidi, who plays Leyla, will be coming back at some point. Leyla will be back into the equation, so that will be thrown in to the mix. Although I am just speculating, I haven't really got a clue!"

Over on Emmerdale, David Metcalfe may be getting a new love interest following his recent split from his wife Tracy.
Although we know that David (Matthew Wolfenden) and Tracy will briefly give into temptation next week, it's previously been confirmed that show bosses have no plans for them to permanently reunite this year.
In the aftermath of his short-lived passion with Tracy, there are signs that David may want to move on with his life when Dr Cavanagh's wife Maya pays a visit to the shop.
The pair sit down for a heart-to-heart, but is David playing with fire by getting so cosy with a married woman?

David Metcalfe will make a sneaky plan in the upcoming crash plot in Emmerdale.
In recent months, David has been confiding in Eric Pollard over some financial problems while keeping them secret from partner Victoria Sugden.
Following the car crash with Nicola King, David will be desperate for some cash. Viewers know that Nicola is still traumatised after her mugging, so driving through the village caused a panic attack.
Nicola ends up crashing into David's car, leading to a tense confrontation where David chases a terrified Nicola back to her home ordering her to pay for damages.
Next week, David resorts to faking a neck injury to get some extra money from the insurance company. When Victoria brings up the expenses for their wedding, a nervous David is cagey once again.
One thing David has going for him is that he does manage to convince Victoria that he's having neck pain ? even if he's exaggerating for the insurance claim.
Not everyone feels bad for David though, as he's criticised in the village by Brenda Walker for putting Nicola through even more trauma with this accident dispute.
The walls start to close in on David as Priya Sharma confides in Victoria that David has missed some scheduled payments to Take a Vow. This news comes as a shock to Victoria, as she faces some disappointing truths about the groom-to-be.
Will Victoria get to the bottom of David's financial trouble?

Emmerdale is set to air a new romantic twist for David Metcalfe ahead of his exit from the soap.
It was revealed last month that star Matthew Wolfenden would be leaving the show after 17 years in the role, and now more details of his storyline building up to his departure have been unveiled.
In new scenes set to air on the soap, David is left in a state of reflection regarding his breakup with Victoria last year, and while chatting with Jacob in the shop, he admits his feelings for her are growing again.
However, there is a sense that Jacob is unhappy about this ? is he disapproving of David's chaotic love life, or is there more going on than meets the eye?
David's exit comes as Matthew is reportedly looking for a change-up amid a lack of gritty plotlines for his character recently.
In other Emmerdale romance news, star Rosie Bentham (Gabby Thomas) has spoken about filming sex scenes on the soap, admitting to The Sun recently: "They really aren't that sexy to film.
"It's more about the practicality of the kiss and making sure you get the camera angle right. I can safely say that I've never banged heads with anyone during a kissing scene, but it does happen.
"You can request an intimacy co-ordinator, but I've never needed one. When you're working that closely with someone you become really good mates. It's never weird or awkward, because you're working with them every day and it's just part of the job."
https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/a45021115/emmerdale-matthew-wolfenden-elf-musical-tickets/
Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has landed his first role since it was confirmed that he would be leaving the ITV soap after 17 years.
The actor, whose upcoming exit as David Metcalfe was announced last month, will return to the stage later this year to play Buddy in the musical adaptation of ELF.
Wolfenden will make his debut at London's Dominion Theatre on November 15, with his stint running until January 6, 2024.
The musical, which debuted in 2010 on Broadway, tells the "funny and charming" tale of Buddy, who is raised in the North Pole as an elf after he accidentally crawls into Santa's sack of toys as baby.
The official synopsis continues: "Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy's enormous size and poor toy-making abilities finally cause him to face the truth and realise he'll never belong in the North Pole.
"With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York to find his birth father, discover his true identity and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas."
Tom Chambers, who has starred in multiple soaps over the years such as Father Brown, Holby City, Casualty and Waterloo Road, will reprise his role as Buddy's father Walter Hobbs from the show's 2022 run.
Other cast members include Georgina Castle as Buddy's love interest Jovie, Rebecca Lock as Walter's wife Emily, Nicholas Pound as Santa, Kim Ismay as Debs and Dermot Canavan as the store manager.
ELF marks yet another theatre credit for Wolfenden, who has previously starred in multiple musicals including Sex, Chips and Rock 'n' Roll, Aladdin and Saturday Night Fever.

Emmerdale stars Matthew Wolfenden and Charley Webb have announced their separation after five years of marriage.
"It is with love and respect that Charley and I have decided to separate," Matthew's story read, with Charley's post containing the exact same statement from her own perspective.
"We remain friends and our priority is the love for our children. For their sake we would appreciate privacy at this time."
This week's episodes will feature actor Matthew Wolfenden's departure from the show as the complicated situation with David, Victoria and Jacob finally comes to a head in dramatic scenes.
https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emmerdale/a61093883/emmerdale-matthew-wolfenden-jack-beanstalk-tickets/
Former Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has confirmed a new role, with the actor set to appear in panto Jack and the Beanstalk.
The star, who played David Metcalfe on the ITV soap up until last year, will play the role of Jack in the Sunderland Empire production of the show.
Jack and the Beanstalk will run between December 13 and January 5, 2025 ? and you can get your hands on tickets right here.
Alongside the actor, the production will star Miss Rory as Dame Rorina Trott and Tom Whalley as Silly Simon.
?I am thrilled to be playing Jack in the iconic Jack and the Beanstalk this Christmas," Matthew said.
"Where better to spend Christmas than at the Sunderland Empire, one of the most beautiful theatres in the land. Can?t wait to see you there!?
Since his Emmerdale exit, Matthew has starred in the musical production of classic Christmas movie Elf, playing the role of Buddy.
He also launched a podcast with fellow Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi last month called Celebrity Side Hustles, which sees the pair "delve behind the scenes to chat with celebrity guests about everything".
Meanwhile, last month Matthew opened up about co-parenting his three children with his ex-wife and Emmerdale co-star Charley Webb, whom he split from last year.
"I think we're still finding our way, the good thing is me and Charley we're still best mates," he told Loose Women.
"That's fantastic. It's all quite new to us still at the moment but we're still finding our feet, finding a way to do it and do it well. I think we are."
