View Full Version : Vinny (Ian Kelsey)
Coronation Street has announced that Ian Kelsey is joining the cast as dodgy businessman Vinny.
The former Emmerdale and Casualty star's character is an old associate of villainous Pat Phelan, and he will be drawn to Weatherfield to help the troublemaker with his latest scheme.
With Jason soon to depart, Phelan's wishes will be granted as he's left to look after the builder's business interests. However, it soon becomes apparent that Phelan has some big plans of his own and will turn to property developer Vinny for support.
It remains to be seen what exactly the scheming pair will get up to, but the show's bosses have teased that it could certainly spell trouble for Coronation Street's residents.
Kelsey started filming today (Friday June 17) and will be on screen from August.
He is best known for playing Dave Glover in Emmerdale and Patrick Spiller in Casualty, but has also appeared in Doctors and Blue Murder.

I'm looking forward to seeing Ian Kelsey in Corrie. I used to have such a crush on him when he starred in Casualty, but I haven't seen any of his later roles. I don't think I'll mind him playing a villain... :wub:

All of this time we have been thinking that Pat Phelan was the most sinister thing to happen to Coronation Street but could mysterious Vinny actually turn out to be worse? As even Phelan becomes shocked by his intentions, it certainly seems so – and he could even be capable of murder.
Ian Kelsey has slunk onto the cobbles as a supposed accessory to Phelan’s villainy but in surprising developments, perhaps even Phelan is nothing compared to what Vinny could do to the residents of Weatherfield.
As Todd makes his intentions to find evidence to give to the police clear, Vinny warns Phelan that he is not prepared to let ANYTHING jeopardise the scam as he is in some serious debt to some very shady characters.
Later, Phelan makes a discovery among Vinny’s belongings that leave him reeling over the lengths he is prepared to go to in order to silence Todd. Is Phelan about to regret uniting with his murky friend as things threaten to spiral out of control?
This is just the first sign of more to come that we should be particularly worried about Vinny…

Yes, sounds good, Perdy. Though I doubt Vinnie could ever be as big a villain as Gavin was in Eastenders! :rotfl:
When a character comes into Coronation Street with a ruthless plan to con half of the residents, it's a safe bet that their stay will only be brief.
With this in mind, it's thought that former Emmerdale star Ian Kelsey has now filmed his final scenes as crafty Vinny Ashford - the partner-in-crime of sleazy Pat Phelan.
Ian was spotted filming his apparent exit in these on-location scenes on Wednesday afternoon (October 19), as Vinny tries to flee with his ill-gotten gains.
Dressed in an eye-catching shirt, Vinny has tickets to Hawaii and heads off in a black cab to start enjoying spending his money.

But will Vinny really be able to escape scot free, or could the law catch up with him at the last second?
Maybe he'll face an angry mob of fleeced Coronation Street residents. Or perhaps he'll just be enjoying cocktails in the sunshine in no time, the swine.
As always with first look paparazzi pictures, we'll just have to tune in later this year to see exactly how it all plays out.

Connor McIntyre, who plays Phelan, was also present on location for the scenes, so another key question is what it all means for his character too.
In the meantime, one thing's for sure - Ian clearly enjoyed playing up to the cameras with Connor on his last day.
As the actors joked around in front of the paps, this fake punching moment looked nearly as entertaining as their real storyline!

Since Ian arrived on screen in August, Vinny and Phelan's plot has seen them con various characters by selling them flats in a brand new property development which will never actually be built.
Although, since most of them have received countless warnings that Phelan really can't be trusted, we'll only have so much sympathy for them when it all goes wrong...

Coronation Street's Vinny Ashford (Ian Kelsey) is set to be the latest character to make a comeback, according to reports in The Sun.
The publication doesn't state precisely why Vinny will be returning, but apparently he will become involved in Phelan's revenge plot against Andy Carver.
While ITV has told Digital Spy that "we don't comment on storyline speculation", we wouldn't be surprised to see Phelan want to get back at Vinny.
Last time we saw him, Vinny ran off with all the money that he and Phelan had accrued from the plot that saw them con various characters, selling them flat
Another recent Corrie return came with the discovery that poor Andy Carver didn't actually die at the hands of Phelan earlier this year — he's just been held captive in a cellar all this time.
He tried to make his escape in Monday's episode by physically attacking Phelan, but unfortunately for him, it didn't go too well.

Pat Phelan’s criminal associate Vinny is about to return to Coronation Street – and he could be the one to finally topple the crooked builder as Daniel Osbourne searches for answers on the Calcutta flats scam that they were both involved in. Ian Kelsey has reprised his role as Phelan’s former mate who did a runner with all of the cash from the scam they plotted together and Phelan reckoned that he had seen the last of him. Until, of course, he came face to face with Mrs McArdle – Vinny’s mum! Daniel had found the pensioner at a nursing home and Phelan’s fears rise when he learns how close the journalist is to getting in touch with Vinny and finding out the whole truth. While Vinny will no doubt have to implicate himself to tell tales on Phelan, perhaps he will see it as worth it to send Phelan down. Phelan knows Mrs McArdle’s link to Vinny and in coming scenes, the two adversaries are likely to go head to head as Phelan fears the awful truth coming to light about what he did. With a recent trailer showing Nicola Rubenstein interrogating Phelan, causing him to snap and Daniel edging closer to a big revelation, is Vinny the one to reveal his true colours to them? And will it set the ball in motion for Phelan finally being caught and brought to justice? Or will Phelan find a way to silence his enemies like he did with Andy Carver?

Yes, I think he will keep about five or six people locked up in that cellar and the story will go on for the next 8 or 9 years...He is such a popular character after all.

I think Vinny will fight Andy when he wakes up and Andy will kill him. Then he will be free.
where is pat keeping vinny's mammy?

Does Pat want Andy to kill Vinny?
So Vinnys mum miraculously returns to the care home somehow? How many buildings does Phelan have access to i wonder. Half of weatherfields vacated premses by the looks of it. No doubt the bodies will get washed up somewhere and Vinny identified as his mum and care home may note him as missing. But noone will bother about Andy .
