EastEnders viewers were introduced to Shakil Kazemi recently, but actress Bonnie Langford is hoping we'll meet Carmel's other son Darius in the future.

He is an accountant in Dubai, apparently...

Shaheen Jafargholi - who reached the Britain's Got Talent final in 2007 with a Michael Jackson classic - was cast as the youngest Kazemi member earlier this year, joining his mum Carmel and her eldest son Kush in Walford.

However, Langford has said that she is still holding out hope that accountant Darius could make his way to Albert Square eventually.

"We are yet to meet Carmel's other son Darius, who is the middle brother of her three sons," she told Inside Soap.

"He is an accountant in Dubai, so let's hope he turns up in Walford one day.

"It was amazing when Shaheen fitted in straight away, and both Davood [Ghadami] and I immediately felt protective of him. We all just wanted to hug each other, so it seemed the right thing to do."

Langford also admitted that playing Carmel is keeping her well and truly on her toes, revealing that she still gets excited when she hears what's coming up for her character.

"I am always excited when I receive my scripts as you never know what they have planned," Langford said.

"You just have to hope that there is no explosion or black taxi."

Selva Rasalingam and Ash Rizi have been cast in the roles of Shakil's dad and brother – and will be arriving in Walford after the teenager is killed this week.

Show bosses have decided to explore the topical issue of knife crime, which will see Shakil die after being attacked in heartbreaking scenes.

The hard-hitting story kicked off last night (May 21) after Shakil's friend Keegan Baker impulsively stole a bike – unaware of its very dangerous owners.

Shakil's absent family members arrive in the aftermath of his harrowing murder, with Darius in particular desperate for someone to blame.

With grief-stricken Carmel struggling to cope, Kush is taken aback when he realises Darius and Umar are still expecting him to move to Dubai.

Kush recently announced his plans to move abroad to pursue a job opportunity with his dad and brother, but will be torn over whether he can actually leave Carmel after Shakil's untimely death.

But as Kush ponders what to do, Umar devastates Carmel when he lets it slip that Kush could still be going regardless. What will he decide to do?

EastEnders airs these scenes on Monday, May 28 and Tuesday, May 29 on BBC One.
