Emmerdale said farewell to Jermaine Bailey last night - and the bad news for Belle Dingle is that he's not coming back.

The couple had planned to move away to Boston together after Jermaine landed himself a new job, but they reached a stalemate when Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) changed her mind at the eleventh hour.

With Belle not keen on leaving her family behind and Jermaine reluctant to give up on his exciting new opportunity abroad, it was clear that it was curtains for their relationship.

And just in case you thought there was still a chance that Jermaine could pop up again, his exit was a permanent one as his storyline has now come to an end.


Micah Balfour, who played Jermaine, addressed his exit on Twitter after the episode aired - admitting that his character wasn't always the most popular. You can say that again!

He tweeted: "I know jermaine wasn't everybody's cup of tea but I had a great time on #emmerdale! They made a fan out of me!"

Replying to one fan who was sad over his departure, Micah replied: "Me too."

We reckon Bailey is better off out of it - at least he won't have to be threatened by Cain, mocked by Charity or punched by Zak anymore...

Jermaine made his first appearances in Emmerdale in 2015, when Finn Barton tried to set him up on a date with his mum Emma.

The character only became more prominent on screen this year, as he started an affair with Belle and controversially continued the fling even after he knew she was only 17.

Jermaine's departure paves the way for Belle to return her focus to family matters, especially when she spots that the romantic spark between her parents Zak and Lisa is still there.

Eden Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle, recently told Inside Soap: "Over Christmas, Belle can see that they are getting on better - they share glances and Belle reads that as them still being in love. But I don't think Lisa and Zak know how they feel. So Belle reckons it's up to her to make it happen again!"
